This is my problem. I have lost weight before and looked and felt good. But I always gained it again afterwards. Best thing is WW I think. But after a year I got sick of counting points (I lost 28 lbs.) and it all came back and more. I know I can loose weight, but can't find the motivation anymore since I know I will get it back aftwards. I just don't want to live without potato chips, fries and chocolate. And a small portion doesn't satisfy me.

Do you regognize this? Have any tips? Thanks!

I am sorry to hear of your difficult situation. I have not found the easy "trick" to make it all work.

I do know the effort must come from you. The only one to motivate you is you and no matter what, you need to know you are worth the effort and can do this. You can make those healty choices, you can become a healthier you.

If you fall, get back on and keep at it. Strive for healthy choices. Find things to occupy your time so you can get your mind away from the focus of the unhealthy choices. If you fall, get back on and keep at it.

Join in on some of the fun threads to help keep you focused. This is a lifestyle change you should seek. Try not to dwell on the failures. Go for positive steps and little ones if you need. If you fall, get back on and keep at it.

Good luck on your journey. Never give it up.

Recognize it? I could have written this about myself. I'm very sheepishly back to WISH for the third time. One thing that I hope will make the difference is that in previous times, once I lost the weight, I stopped coming here for the support. Also, I read somewhere about weighing yourself every day or two (I know, that's a controversial one) and returning to dieting AS SOON as the weight starts to creep up, even a little. A pound or two takes less time to lose than 20. Ice cream is my downfall, plus I have an overall sweet tooth. I wish I knew the "secret" to permanent weight loss though.

 (European) you have found the right place for the support you need to embark on your journey -- to healthier living

i think key here is lifestyle -- this can't be a diet, or a temporary thing -- it has to be forever. and that may seem overwhelming. no you don't have to give up potato chips forever, but you become mindful of putting them into your body and decide when and how many and work it into your plan.

but i'm getting ahead of myself -- the big picture IS overwhelming. let's break it down to smaller more-doable goals. how about water? very very important for healthy bodies, do you drink 84 oz a day? maybe that's a good first mini-goal to get your water in. then when that feels routine, you'll choose another habit to change. maybe walking 15 mins a day? fast food only once a week? chocolate in smaller portions? you see choose changes you feel in control enough to accomplish - set yourself up for success!

trust me - i understand where you come from. i lost almost 25 lbs in 2003 on WW (unofficially, I didn't ever join them) I joined WW online in Jan and have only lost about 8 of the 20 lbs i had regained. it may be a struggle for me for a long time -- but then most things worth it do require effort don't you think?

you are worth it! you can do it! baby steps and post here often! check out our challenges and jump in -- all are welcome and encouraged to join! i need all the inspiration i can muster up!!

I could have written that myself.

One thing that has helped me stay motivated is changing my exercise routine every 3 months. Any longer and I feel bored and want to quit.

You can buy low fat versions of almost anything. You can buy baked chips. You can make a low-fat version of fries. You can satify your chocolate craving with sugar-free fat-free Jello pudding.

I used to eat a whole tub of ice cream or a jumbo bag of chips all at one time. Now I count the exact amount of baked chips I want, put them on a plate, and put the bag way in the back of the cupboard. Try keeping all healthy food where you can see it, and the treats out of sight.

Like PP mentioned, try breaking it into mini goals. Instead of saying I need to lose 60 pounds, say I need to lose 5 pounds this month.

These are a few things that have helped me :) You can do this!!!!!
