I was looking at Touringplans wait times for DL and CA to see what it is like compared to WDW. I see that some rides close. Does this happen often? Is it mechanical failure? Just wondering. Thanks!

What time of day are you looking at the times? During the fireworks in Disneyland, some of the Fantasyland rides close, and during World of Color, several rides close in California Adventure. If it's not nighttime and there is a closure, it is either a ride that is undergoing refurbishment/maintenance, or it's just a short-term closure due to technical difficulties. The rides closed for scheduled refurbs can be found on the Disneyland calendar on any given day.

No, not due to mechanical failure, they have to close all rides down for a bit from time to time for maintenance and refurbishment. I sure hope it's done at WDW too or it wouldn't be very safe!

The other thing I'd add is Toontown closes before the fireworks and doesn't reopen after. It has two rides in it.

TSI/ROA and thier associated attractions close for F!/darkness.

The closures were at different times throughout the day. I guess I never used the line feature before and never realized when rides shut down in WDW. Hmm. The last I checked was around 5:00 pm LA time (I am 3 hours ahead). Perhaps a parade?

Some rides close for parades. Some close for fireworks or other shows like WOC. Some open late. Some close early. And the rest are likely mechanical failure.
