........but I sat down and figured out how much money each of our TS meals would be. I noticed (as many have said) that Coral Reef really isn't worth 2 credits. We are going to eat there on my birthday and will be having a cake delivered for dessert anyway, so I decided I will pay OOP for that meal. This gives us 2 more TS meals to choose!

Anyone else plan obsessively like this??? :teeth:

Yep I went thru each menu and "guessed" what we'd be ordering to get a $$ amount. Mainly to see how much we'd save with the 20% off DDE card to see if getting an AP was worth it but also to see how much our food budget was.

I also just printed off menus for our TS and am going to do some "practice" ordering with my H & boys, now that they're teens they seem to take forever to order (summer trip we sent the waiter away 2-3 times each meal needing more time) so we're going to play a game with the menus using a stop watch :rotfl: .

That's what I did too! Looked at the menus and guessed what everyone would order (bet I was right too!)

I always decide what I want before I go. And I didn't change my mind at all. I knew I wanted the lamb at Brown Derby, the maple glazed steak at Le Cellier, etc. Glad I'm not the only one. :flower:

how else would you budget? When we're planning to go to WDW, DH and I will sit down and plot which restaurants we want to do, what days to do it to coincide with which park, and then look at the menus at allearsnet to figure out how much each meal is going to cost us.

That lets us figure out how much money we're going to need for the entire trip because food costs make up almost 50% of the trip budget. Then we add about $30-$50/day in snack costs. If we use it all up, great... we're on budget. If we don't use it all up... wonderful... we're under budget and any extra money can go to other spending.

Plus it makes it easier to figure out if a restaurant is worth going or not because DH is a mega picky eater.

I guess that makes me a GEEK also. Susan

You aren't a geek....DH and I did that before we went too....I wanted to eat at Coral Reef, but not with it taking 2 credits....luckily for us, next year it is only 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I did that before deciding for sure whether or not I wanted to get the dining plan. I've got a pretty good idea of what each of us will order at each place so it wasn't hard. I was shocked that there were a couple of days where dinner alone will equal what we would pay for the entire day for the dining plan. That sold me on it way back in March. Now we're only a 5 weeks away from finally getting to use it!

I'm so glad to know I am not the only one :cool1: I went through the menus and figured what we would probably order (minus apps. & dessert) to try and figure out if the dining plan was worth it for us. I did this mostly to convince my husband that it would be worth it. It was so much fun though. Now it will save time when we are there too because I already know what I want to eat and then we can get back to the parks. :) I have been more obsessive about this trip than any other. We normally only go for a long weekend so it is a lot of fun planning for a week.

Good Lord No, you are so not a geek. We know more or less exactly what we are eating at each meal throughout our vacation, because of the number crunching that I did to figure out if the Dining Plan was for us. It turned out to not be our best deal. Saving money, any money, on a $4000+ trip is always a good thing. Keep up the geek....er...a....great work. ;) Maggie

Count me in as a "geek", too. I always try to figure out what everyone is ordering. I agree with oogieboogie, this is the only way I'll know how much to budget for food.

Don't have to worry this time because we are on the dining plan, but now I'll know how much money I'm saving. :cool1:

I proudly carry the title of Geek! I did it twice to double check which meal we should pay for out of our pockets since we are eating one 2 credit meal.

Count me in the Geek column. I needed to convince my husband that the dining plan was worth it.
