I'm starting a Texas thread!!

I'm sitting here looking at pics from past years with my Grace in the bluebonnets. OMgosh, with all the rain we've gotten, they should be amazing this year.

I'd love to hear from any Texans out there what you all love about the state. For me, I just love the whole state. The people are friendly, the scenery is gorgeous and i love how dramatic the weather can be. I love that it can be 60 degrees and then you can see a cold front moving in that drops it by 30 degrees.

I love the diversity of the state. I love how there are so many different kinds of people here. I love that our family can afford to live here comfortably, in our own home, with a good qualtiy of life. i also love the relationship Texas has with the Military community. We've been stationed here four times and have always felt welcome and a part of the community. A pretty big deal when you're moving around constantly. It just seems natural for our famliy to settle here.

Well, I don't live in Texas but I hope you'll let me comment on your thread.

My Dad was from Texas so we did take several trips down to visit family, always in June after school got out so I never did get to see the Bluebonnets. My senior year of high school Dad and Mom went without me, in May, and did get to see them. So I've only seen them in pictures, but they were beautiful!

My DS started a new career last fall, driving truck and he does get runs through Texas sometimes and I'm hoping he gets one there in the spring so he can see the Bluebonnets. He is really into scenery, so I know he would love them!

What I can remember from my trips to Texas when I was a child/teen (and I'm 52 now so it's been awhile ) was that the summer was nicer than ours in Michigan because of the lack of humidity (we visited relatives in the Brady, Breckenridge, Gorman, Big Spring and El Paso areas). We were amazed at the drier heat. And I remember the horned toads! Loved them!! I remember going to Big Bend National Park and that was very pretty also. And I loved the southern hospitality and charm and accents!!

I spent all of my childhood that I can remember in Texas but am not a native Texan. My daddy worked offshore for Schlumberger and I was born in Argentina. I have lived in NC, TN and now Michigan.

What I love about Texas:

Friendly People You can talk to anyone, anywhere, and folks don't think you're weird.
Great food Tex-Mex and Barbecue. Nuff said!
Diverse cultures Lots of ethnic/racial diversity with way less tension than here in Detroit.
Proximity to different geographical areas From the desert to the Piney Woods to the Hill Country to the Beach. There is something for everyone.
James Avery My #1 destination everytime we come to Texas.
Diet Dr. Pepper on tap at the gas station and the fact that every soft drink is called a coke no matter what it is.

I'm sure I could think of lots more...now I'm really missing Texas!

I love the Hill Country and all of the small Czech and German towns. I also love the coastal small towns.

I love some of our characters like Willie and Kinky. There's nothing pretentious about these guys.

I love the Gruene Dance Hall.

Texas is just the largest county of New Mexico. Now that we got that out of the way, we're heading to Austin next weekend for margaritas, Tex-Mex, First Thursday on South Congress, and of course hitting the mother of all Whole Foods stores.

I love that in Texas we will eat anything in a tortilla - for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I love that in Texas no one is a stranger and when 'outsiders' come here - visitors & transplants alike - we do our best to make them feel like 'insiders'!

Diet Dr. Pepper.

I love that Texans can choose another place in Texas to vacation and feel like we've have gone somewhere special and memorable.

You can find parking in downtown San Antonio in someones yard for $5 bucks for the evening and they'll guard your car like it's their own!

That rivalry between a Longhorn and Aggie is stronger than glue, but will never come between friends or neighbors.

That whenever the Spurs have won a championship (sadly, wont' this year, I'm afraid), we party hearty, but respectfully, and no damage to person or property occurs.

Most important to me...the best place to raise a family!

I have a confession: I'm a native Texan and have NEVER taken a bluebonnet pic.

I love the fact that I'm minutes away from the border and some of the greatest food possible!

I tend to strike up conversations with random people everywhere! so yeah, I guess that's the Texan in me.

I super love the fact that you can ask most anyone from Texas "What are you?" and they'll reply Texan whereas most everyone else will reply American.

ha! and i like that it can be snowing in the Panhandle and 90 degrees in the Valley, all at the same time.

Don't feel too bad. I am 34 and have always lived here - no bluebonnet pics. I have horrible allergies and never wanted to risk it. I think they're very pretty though!

i've noticed a lot of people on the boards are from texas. I go out to Dallas often enough to see my family.
I think its pretty. And i'd love to see the gardens there in the dallas area. My aunt has pics of my cousion whe she was little in there. It looks like its even prettier than flower and garden festival.

But florida will forever be home for me. Even if texas is a cool state to visit.
