Freshman year is pretty important right? It's when everybody starts changing, going into a new school and hanging with a new crowd, the whole shebang.
I missed my freshman year. This new school year is such a shell shock. Parties every weekend. Everyone drinking alcohol, doing drugs, or having sex. It's just so different, I don't know how to react.
I know we all grow up at some point (well, most of us) but these people called my classmates are so different than they were in 8th grade.

Any advice?

Be you.

Just dont get into that stuff.

Oh trust me, I don't. I've been around the block a few times, I've seen what happens first hand.
It's just everyone is so different, it's like I don't even know these people.

Did you have your first day of school today?
I hear from a lot of people that everything you see on tv, movies, etc. is all just stereotypical. In fact, every body says that HS is a breath of fresh air from Middle school. Now I don't know for sure, I still have one year left of MS, so I may be wrong.

I agree, just be you and stick with your friends [even if you don't have any at this school yet, you'll make some!].

Today was the first day of school but I couldn't go. Leave it to me to get a nasty sinus infection the day before school starts.
I really wanted to go, but I know if I did the nurse would send me right back home.

High school is nothing like that... there's still parties, drugs, alcohol, and sex, just not as much as you think.. movies and shows make it seem so much worse than it is.

i live in a rural area, and kids drink heavily, use drugs, and have sex out of...you guessed it. boredom.

drugs, alcohol and sex are a part of high school.

but heres where highschool and movies differ. if these kids are your friends, they dont care if you drink or if you dont. if they do, you'll more than likely be invited to do so too. i know i have, but i always politely decline, and they're like 'okay.' people dont rag on you for not doing what they do.

at least the kids around here dont.

btw, the hardcore partiers usually separate out by halfway through sophomore year. you know who does what, and all of that. freshman and sopho year are for experimenting and figuring out what they want to do.

That's how it is here. They have sex and do drugs and who knows what else out of boredom.

Well that's unfortunate!
I've almost missed the first day on multiple different occasions. xD

people change because they feel the need to
maybe if they see you and think 'oh hey, i remember blah blah blah' they'll be the same person that you knew them as.

if that makes any sense at all...

so true, mid-grade 10 is when people establish themselves as either involved in the party scene or not. So by the middle of the yr you'll probably know who is and isn't going to parties and all that. Just stay friends with who you're friends with though. Though I was part of the 'party circuit' in HS I certainly didn't disown my friends who weren't.

People are definitely going to change, nd there's no stopping that, sometimes friendships end when people change, but it's not all that difficult to make friends in HS, seeing as how there are 4x as many people than in elementary school. (well in my city at least!)

Good luck in school!!! Hope you get to go back soon!!! I know how much you're loking forward to it

My advice is to try and find people you were well acquainted with in 8th grade and see how they've turned out. If they've turned out okay, stick with them like glue.

Make sure you are in an alliance with friends you know will be good to you and good for you.

I totally know what you mean...
Except these were kids i saw in 5th grade and again in 10th...they went from innocent little kids to parties every week and geting tested for stds all the time...i don't hang out with them anymore...

Find a group of good kids with similar interest.

Highschool really isn't that bad, especially freshmen year. I mean there are of course your partiers, but it really isn't TOO bad untill sophmore/junior year. Honestly as long as you find a good group of friends you can avoid it entirely. I mean I have experimented with stuff, just to try it, but I am in no way shape or form a hardcore partier haha.

Right now the friends I am with just find other things to do. Its not like we are totally against drinking, parties, ect, but we would rather go do laser tag, or go watch a movie. It just appeals to us more. So yeah, highschool isn't all about that. :]

I found the only difference between grade 8 and grade 9 was there were new people to meet, so t here was just a surplus of people.
And well yeah some people got into partying and drinking (possibly sex, I don't know) but they weren't anyone I specifically cared about.
