I'm all a-flutter! LOL! It's nice to be back reading the DIS boards again! Our last trip to DL was in November of 2007. This time we're going in May. It's going to be a vacation filled with change. We're driving instead of flying and we're going in the spring instead of winter or summer. We haven't been to DL at a time other than Christmas since the summer of 2000 so I'm excited. It's been way too long since I've seen the original HM.

May 2-9 is the plan. I'm hoping that the refurbishment schedule is light since it's right after the spring break crowds have left. And the weather...it should be warm, but not hot? The only potential problem with our dates that I can see is "Fantasmic." It's our son's #1 priority because he wants to share it with his 9yo son who was just a baby when he last visted DL. No one in his family has seen DCA yet either. It hadn't opened yet when he was there during the winter of 2000.

So, anyway..I'll be asking a lot of questions...hope you all don't mind.

I think that'll be a fabulous time for a visit. If you want to catch Fantasmic you'll want to include at least one weekend day. Have fun planning!

I agree. Also the fireworks will likely be dark Mon-Thur that time of year.

If it was me, I'd consider a Sat through Tue/Wed or Thur visit.

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's park. :thumbsup2

Hi Bouncy! I think it should be a great time to go as well as far as crowds are concerned. In addition to F! being shown on weekends, you should also be able to catch the DEP, so make sure you include a Fri or Sat night in your stay.

As far as temeperatures that time of year -- it's totally unpredictable. The last week of April this year we experienced close to 105 degrees on the Ladies Only Trip. It was miserable hot. While I don't think that is the "norm" I would count it out.

Have fun with your planning.

I agree with PPs...make sure you stay one weekend night if you want to see fireworks and F! But when I went in May fireworks were cancelled one night due to winds so maybe a second night wont hurt if they are a priority! The weather at the time is GREAT! I loved it. It was just warm enough not to be chilly and was comfortable. Made being in the park all day much easier. I am excited for your family :)

You will enjoy the drive, we did it in August. However we are in Longview, so I'm guessing you are about 3 hours north of us. Look for total drive time to be around 20 hours + -. Should be nice weather and good scenery. You will miss some of the spring break crowds (our spring break is the 28th of March through April 5th). Feel free to ask away.:wizard:

I love DL in May. The crowds are low and weather usually perfect. We already have reservations for PP for May 1-3 ourselves - it's an early Mother's Day gift to ME!!!:lovestruc

Have fun planning, it's half the fun.

I was there from May 9th through 13th this year and the weather was pretty great. First day was bright and sunny, had to of been around low 70s. Second and third day were very overcast most of the day but cool (I wore a light jacket both days and I'm from Florida). One day was drizzly in the morning but very managable. Not much of a rain, just a steady minor drizzle. The last full day I had was pretty hot.

How much fun it is to plan a trip to Disneyland! Enjoy the planning process, it is at least half the fun!

I just wanted to say "Hi!" to you Bouncy. I live in Auburn too!

What a very small world we live in!

Congratulations on your trip! I have been that same time frame twice. Once it was warm and lovely, the other time (in 2004) it was hot! It was nearing 100 degrees most of our days. But with all the tree shade, a midday swim and the airconditioned rides, we made out fine. Its hard to predict that So. Cal weather.

And too funny, we just planned a trip for next October this past weekend and plan to drive instead of fly. I can't wait, isn't it good to have a DL trip on the books so to speak?! Have fun with your planning!:goodvibes

Splash5 - no I did not - always go this time of year and never get a good rate. We bought DVC this year and used points for two nights. I love May but there are never any good on-site hotel deals. It's weird, they have great AP rates for Jan-Feb (sometimes early March) and Sept-Nov (excluding Holidays), but May is a wonderful time to visit and crowds are low, so why don't they offer some deals? Last year we went to some of the Food & Wine events and stayed at PP and paid almost $200 per night! Anyway, just wanted to share that typically they do not offer great rates, but it IS a great time to visit.:)
