Im scared

Y'all, I am scared and I have never been scared about a storm before. The only thing I can do to keep me from worrying is get on the computer. I am in Columbus GA and it has quieted down for now, but the sirens were going off about on hour ago and the are tornado warnings all over the place. I have since heard that the worst will not be here until 4pm. I took the day off, but my DH is at work. He called me at 11am and told me that they called them all back to the work center, but I have not heard from him since. My youngest child is at the sitters house, and I want to go get him soooo bad it hurts. BUT I do not want to risk my other children getting hurt, OR worse yet, bring him home, where we only have a small 1 lelvel house with a VERY small closet in the middle of the house for cover. My sitter has a tri level home, with one level being in the basement. I feel like he might be safer there. She also only has him there and her kids who are 18, 15 and 8. I have my 9,8 and 5 year old here, as well as my brother, SIL and niece (2) who were evacuated from Destin. I am soo worried.

I would call the sitter and see if I could come there and stay at her house for a while...at least til the worse has passed.

Well, we live in a culdesac, and we are on a hill at the end of the culdesac. Does that make sense? So we are already higher up than all the other homes on our street. Flooding, I am not worried right now. Right now I am scared about the tornadoes I am just fearing the worst I am sure. My DH and I have our 1st ever vacation away from the kids planned this weekend. ( We were supposed to leave tommorow) so that is also adding to my paranoia. It looks like we may have to cancel. Right now, I am just trying to get through today..........I will deal with 2mrrw when it gets here....No tornadoes please.............

Take a deep breath and try to stay calm.

You are already doing all you can do. Your child who is at the sitter's house is in a safe place.

Your husband is probably just very busy and will call when he can.

In the meantime, you have 3 children with you who are looking at you as their source of strength. Try your best to put on a brave front for their sake, OK?

Do something with them to try to take your minds off the possibilities, while still keeping an eye on the weather. Now might be just the time to grab some sheets and make a tent with the living room furniture or some other bit of fun that will help you all cope for a while.

I'll be praying for you and your loved ones.

We are up near Suwanne, GA and I guess it's headed our way.
We have a basement, so I'm not too worried.
Just keep the weather channel on, and keep on DISing to distract you.

Was at DD's school this morning and the principal ordered all classrooms to do a run through the tornado drill.
It's just raining really hard here now, and it's weird - it's not a steady rain, but on and off. Sometimes it gets dark, then light

It'll be great when the kids get off the bus at 3:20pm!!! I might just bring the soap and shampoo and wash them down outside in the pouring rain!

My DH left for Boston this morning - so it's me and the kids tonight. Hopefully all will be OK. I'm not really bothered about it in the daytime, but at night........ I gassed up the car and got some cash this morning just in case.

It's bad here in B'ham. My wood fence has fallen in several places. I've never seen winds like this before.

But we still have POWER! Woo hoo! Don't know for how much longer though.

I just went through Frances. You have my prayers and my compassion. I know how bad it is to ride one of these things out. I happened to do it at work and not at home, but it still wasn't very pleasant. You are best to stay put. It's not safe to drive when it is so windy and rainy. Hang in there.

Sorry I didn't mean to make light of our situation.

We just have a tornado "watch" currently. It's raining off and on here, so I assume they are going to release school as normal - which means a short walk from the bus stop (I was actually just kidding about the soap, etc.)

dzneprincess is a south west of here (correct??), we are north east of Atlanta, so probably heading our way in a few hours.
For us, the danger is flooding.

Hi Amanda- How are you doing? I'm in Atlanta, where it is raining but no big winds yet. DH left this morning for business down in Brunswick so it's just me and our DSs 6 and 8 until tomorrow night. DH was concerned about leaving us alone but I grew up in the midwest where we would stand outside in the backyard and watch the tornadoes so they don't scare me. Do you have a basement? I plan to pick DSs up from school at 3, and then hang out in the basement. I have decided to declare today a video/videogame day once DSs get their homework done.

The forecast for the weekend is that Ivan will clear out by Saturday, leaving partly cloudy skies for the weekend. Where are you and your DH headed for your trip?

Thanks guys. I forget to add that yesterday the school board decided to close schools for today AND tommorrow. SO they are expecting it to be really bad here. It is still quiet here. We must be inbetween bands. I understand that the worst is supposed to be in near 4pm. I just had to stop watching the weather channel and CNN because all it was doing was scaring me more. I have decided to leave my 1 year old at the sitters house. I think it would not be wise to go after him right now. I know that my sitter loves him like he is her own, and she has promised me that if a tornado comes, it will have to get thru her first. Ya think she loves him? Right now we are under flash flood warning and tornado watch.................Thank God we still have power. I am trying to get this house clean, in the hopes that all will be well, all .I am hoping the worst that will come of this will be that I worried and panicked for nothing and I need a good drink on the ship.

I'm scared too dzneprincess! I live in Middle Georgia and they are predicting it will get really bad at about 5-6pm. I live in a house but it has TONS of windows and no basement. I've got my fingers crossed.

When we have a major storm here, I turn on music LOUD and find something to do----clean out a closet, organize pictures----anything but sit and think about it.
