And I always hit up all my friends for money, and I consider all of you to be my friends! Aren't you all lucky :cheer2:

AIDS LifeCycle is a 545 mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It is an amazing experience! There is no other way to really take in all the beauty that is the Golden State.

You can show your support by making a contribution here . Or check the last line of my siggie! :wave2:

EDIT: I got the okay, yay!

Do NOT fall off the bike and break your collar bone, got it? :scared:

Good for you Kinglouie! Thank you. :cheer2:

The funny thing is two years ago a friend of mine wanted to come and she had never ridden a rod bike so she was learning that, then she fell off the bike practicing in her driveway and broke her thumb. Well, I suppose it wasn't so funny for her . . .

I'm sorry, did you say 545??? I could MAYBE do 5....545?? I'm still trying to process that!! I've DRIVEN it and was tired...cannot imagine bike riding it!!! I will GLADLY contribute when the link comes back up!! Some of us talk about making a difference...but you ARE making a difference!!:cheer2:

It sounds a lot worse than it is. I've run a marathon before and if you gave me the option of doing that, or rididng a bicycle 545 miles over 1 week, I'd choose the bike ride (barely).

Anyway, I got the go ahead. You can use the first post or the last line of my signature. Thanks for all the kind words guys!

We have something similar here, but I don't know how far it is. The TX Lone Star AIDS Ride. Or something like that. The first year they did it something like 78% of the proceeds were used for "administrative" costs. They didn't have a ride for awhile after that (for obvious reasons). Then it resurfaced with a new name, new organizers and a new route.

Good luck to you!! :cheer2:

Totally. The same thing happened hear. It might even be the same story. This ride was put together by a promoter at one point and sponsored by Absolut, and some insane amount of money was being spent on operations. I forget the guy's name, but he was actually convicted of a few crimes.

The great thing about this ride is that it is actually organized by the two foundations that are the beneficiaries of the money, so they have one of the lowest administrative costs I have ever seen associated with a charity. I do my research when it comes to deciding who to give my hard earned money to :thumbsup2

Ours was sponsored by Tanqueray. Weird, huh?

I was the chair of the AIDS Walk prize committee for many years and I called hundreds of donors. There was one guy who absolutely went off at me about the ride. Um, hello? Different event, dude! :rotfl2: All I wanted was a gift certificate to his restaurant!

Don't forget the Body Glide......I can't even imagine the chafing...:crazy2:

It goes well, though until now my training has consisted almost entirely of spin class a few times a week. I intend to really kick it into high gear next weekend!

One of my bosses has done some randonneur bicycling over the years. She has a pretty tight knit group that she still gathers with every few years to go off to some fun location and just get away, bicycle with amazing scenery, and drink. I don't think that she has ever done any fundraisers though. I think she did a 1,000 mile ride in Utah or Colorado, I forget exactly, a few years back. She still does regular yoga and spin classes though. She says that those two activities sort of "scratch the itch" in between the big rides. :)

I love you too Sweetie-

Seriously, thanks for riding. I REALLY appreciate your efforts to raise monies and awareness of this horrible scurge.

Sorry the donation wasn't larger.
