OK for years my hubby :happytv: has put up with my constant planning of trips to Disney. I always do all the itineraries, book the dining, modify the plans basically do everything and he packs the car (:headache:), so this year I'm giving it up and I'm going out of my comfy zone and booking a wilderness experience in the camp ground knowing he loves the great outdoors :scared1:......we are now officially booked for Jan 17~21 at FWL Cabins.

I've seen the pix and they look pretty cozy. I'm just afraid of whats lurking outside at night

We've done disney so many times I am excited to go to the parks, but this trip I think we're going to tone it down, pack our own food, grill/bbq and enjoy the resort....but what is there to do? :confused3 The disney webisste doesnt really offer much. Is it considered part of the Wilderness Lodge?

I'm trying to find as much info as possible. Can my hubby go fishing? Can we decorate our windows and deck area? Any feedback is much appreciated

Maybe an occasional otter, but what you really have to watch out for are the FIENDS:rotfl:

Fish, take leisurely walks, sit on the beach, swim. rent a golf cart and loop, rent a canoe, rent a boat, bike ride, RELAX.:thumbsup2

NO! Actually it was there first!

YES!

http://allears.net/acc/g_ftw.htm GO HERE TOO!

Go for it! Just think after you cook dinner, the "Mousekeepers" will do the dishes, can it get any better?

We loved the cabins and FW. We enjoyed cooking our own meals and then the wonderful mousekeeping comes along and does the dishes and cleans the grill! We also really loved riding bikes around the property, the campfire and movie, sitting on the deck at night with a nice glass of wine and listening to nature. We won't stay at any other resort now-:thumbsup2

Fishing is catch and release only. No license needed.

Dig around here in the camping forum and you will find out a lot...maybe more than you wanted to know. :goodvibes And feel free to ask anything else you may need to know.

The Fort is a fun place, the cabins are well outfitted, and you should have a great time.

If you're driving, bring your bikes. FW does rent them, but that can get pricey. If you don't bring or rent bikes..I would recommend a golf cart. Makes getting around the campground much easier from the cabin loops. They are somewhat removed from many of campground amenities. Just my opinion. Of course we stayed in them many years ago, in the heat of August with three young kids at the time.:headache: Getting on and off a bus just to get to the pool was more than I wanted to deal with. The golf cart made the trip MUCH more enjoyable. ;) You can rent from Disney..or call Kenny (if you search this forum..you'll fine him...he delivers a cart to your site, at a significant savings, and has gotten rave reviews :thumbsup2).

You might want to include a night to see the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, a dinner show that is located in FW in Pioneer Hall. Food is good and the show is actually pretty funny and entertaining. You won't be disappointed.
Don't forget the MK fireworks can be seen from the beach/marina area in FW, as can the Electric Water Pagent..which swings past FW on Bay Lake every evening.
The marina area offers sea sprites and pontoon boats for rent as well.

I am LOL as I read your post. You sound JUST LIKE ME! I live only a bit south from you. You can see by my signature, I have stayed at *almost* every WDW resort. I am not a "camper" per se, but in Sept we visited some friends at FW in their RV and now I want to stay there! I have done the Hoop De Doo Revue in the past(it's a hoot and I highly recommend it) and the campfire/singalong/movie a few times. We have also done the pony rides, petting zoo, etc. But Sept was the first time I actually HUNG OUT at FW, and I really really want to stay there now. We are considering Jan also!!! May I ask what rate you got? They seem awfully pricey...my DH and I are thinking of renting a small camper to tow behind his truck. Not sure which is the cheaper option: cabin or camper.

This is my VERY FORST TIME on this forum (and I come to the DISboards often as you can see my my post count...usually the resort, restaurant and community boards) so I just wanted to say hello!

we used the current disney internet of 25% off rate and booked it for $866. :scared: (yea thats a little high for us too) I'm waiting for the FL resident or AP rates for winter to come out (any day this month) and I will call to modify it. I'm thinking after the resident savings it will be about $500. or so. :woohoo:
Last year I booked ASMu with the "winter" gerneral discount the room was $89/night, when I called back to modify for FL resident rate it went down to $52.25/per night. We have a big savings as Florida ressies-Some ppl will argue its not a gurantee to get such a discount and there is only limited availability, but I've NEVER had a problem getting my reservation modified. The trick is to book while the one rate is out to guarantee a room, and then call to price adjust it as the better resident rates come out! :rolleyes1
I figured do this in January when its too cold for any wild animals to come out...at least thats my theory! :teacher:

when my wife and I stayed there there was an armadillo that visited every night by the trashcan . very strange cause it looked like it was digging for something always.it left we checked and it looked like he dug nothing the ground was totally undisturbed :confused3 also it seemed very unafraid of humans it didn't even bat an eye when we got really close to it!

as far as decorating knock yourself out ;) dw goes nuts with decorations when we stay there :) (and I mean serious decorating almost think your in the world of Disney store :goodvibes ......I tease her about it but I love when she does it ) ;)
