Before I officially started my marathon training I was running at most 5 miles. When I signed up for the Mickey I came on here and started reading the posts and getting lots of ideas.

I would come across so many people that stated, "I JUST have to do 5 miles today" or "I ran my short 5 miles today". AHHH!!! What was I doing???Five miles is LONG for me!!!!

Well fast forward months later where my longest distance to date is 18 miles. When someone asked me the other day, "How much do you have to run today?" I chuckled to myself as I responded with, "ONLY 5 miles."

YES!!! I'm finally one of them!!!

As I start to finish getting ready for my Mickey medal, I want to thank all of you for the inspiration, tips, and suggestions that you have so graciously given me over the past several months. You are an amazing group of people whom I am so blessed to "know".

Best of luck to all of you!!

Suzy I hear you. It's kind of weird when you have a "short" long run week....say 12-13 miles! It feels weird and very satisfying to know that you can do it. Like you, I am "getting up there" for my marathon training (my first) and tomorrow will run my 18 miles. While nervous, I feel like I will be able to do it.

Congratulations Suzanne! It's a wonderful time when you realize that 5 miles is ONLY 5 miles, and that's a short run. Good job for making it to 18, and good luck on the rest of your training. We'll see you in January!

Isn't that a great feeling Suzanne! I'm in awe of your 18 miles btw! Congratulations!

I have coached several groups through to marathons and I love to gather my flock in after the first time we pull distance back to 12 miles and talk about just this. It is amazing how short a 12 miler can feel.

Congrats on joining the 'group' and good luck with your last few long runs. Bottle up this feeling for race day and pull it out as you cross into the last half the race (mile 20). If you can successfully pull this thought and feeling out during the out and back of Mile 20 you will have a great second half. Remember the second half is only a SHORT 10k!

What a wonderful and refreshing post! Thanks for sharing your joy with us. Yes, it is an amazing thing once those miles get up there to remember the beginnings. I love the reminder of just this thing for all of us.

Look forward to meeting up with you in January.

Awesome post and I imagine what a great feeling..
I am finally at the the point where 5/6 miles is easy and 10miles is my distance where I question each time as I start if I will finish. I can't wait until I can call my 10 miler my easy run

It's a great feeling, isn't it????? Way to go!!!!!:banana:
