I'm not sure what just happened..

I had to stop posting for a few minutes and run out to the General Store to get milk so I would have it for when I eat my dinner later on.. The store is just about 3 miles from here..

Got my milk - had a craving for chocolate - picked up another Entemann's Devil's Food Cake With Marshmallow Icing - grabbed a couple of newspapers and a few post cards of this area..

I get all the way back here - just about to back in my driveway - and I realize the girl never charged me for the cake! So, I turn around and go all the way back to pay for it.. I go in the store, tell them what happened, the store owner is standing there, and says, "It was our fault - no need to pay for the cake.." I tried to insist that she take the money, but nope - she wouldn't do it..

So - was it "No good deed goes unpunished" (a wasted trip) - or - "My lucky day"?? (got a free cake)..

Well if it was "my lucky day", I should have at least bought some lottery tickets with the money the cake would have cost me..

As for why they did that... they can probably write it off as goodwill, which is better for them than taking a loss hit. At least that's how it worked when I was in retail.
