I was reading some stuff on here tonight, and I realized that in Disney's eyes, I'm really a nobody.
I don't get special deals, for being a Florida Resident, I don't own DVC, I cant afford VIP tours, I am going on a Disney Cruise, but I'm at the bottom of that chain too. I am not gold, silver, or Platinum!
I am sure this will be the only Disney cruise I will ever go on. Cant stay deluxe, or Concierge. I am fine with all of this, but it just made me think, does anyone else feel like they are trying to shut out the everyday, once in a lifetime trip person. I would like a special magic band. I pay more to get to WDW than a Florida resident. None of this is going to stop me from going to Disney, just cant go as often, but it sure would be fun to be Special once in awhile>

I don't understand this kind of attitude. If you go into a trip with this kind of belief, you're sure to have a rotten time because you'll spend so much energy feeling like a nobody because you're not getting anything "special" - other than a trip that many other people aren't fortunate enough to be able to go on. Why can't going on the trip be special enough, regardless of what level you view yourself as being?

Really!??... Why does everyone think they deserve "special" treatment? You are getting to go to Disney, something a lot of people only dream about. If you want a more luxurious experience at WDW, sit out a couple years and save up so that you can stay deluxe. Then you can have that "Special" trip that you want. I personally think that every trip we take to Disney is special, whether it's Value or Deluxe!!

I'm about as big a nobody as you can get, and I never once felt "less than" on our trip to WDW. I loved every minute of it!

I was there during EMM and the after hours events, saw the cabanas by Space Mountain, spied some great deluxe resorts at a distance, and passed by some expensive restaurants we didn't eat at...didn't phase me one bit!

Yes, Disney does offer a lot of expensive extras, but they also offer a great experience for everyone and for every budget (I, for one, think it is awesome I can stay in a great hotel on property for $100 a night!)

Only thing special about us DVC owners it that we paid scads of money to Disney up front or with a loan, and continue to pay maintenance fees to use those points.

I am going on a Disney Cruise, but I'm at the bottom of that chain too. I am not gold, silver, or Platinum!

Every single person who takes a first Disney cruise is right there in that boat with you.

I am sure this will be the only Disney cruise I will ever go on.

Maybe, but maybe you'll be on other cruiselines that are more affordable, and maybe you'll find that they are just as good even if they don't have Mickey and Cinderella on them.

does anyone else feel like they are trying to shut out the everyday, once in a lifetime trip person.

No, I don't do "once in a lifetime" trips. The concept, for me, is too depressing. I tried to get DH to go to Fiji or Tahiti for our honeymoon but he rightfully balked at the money, and I'm glad. We did an Alaskan cruise, which we could do again, and it was better than something we could never ever go back to.

Everywhere in life there are going to be people who can afford more than you. Just be happy with what you can. We started with the value resorts and worked out way up to buying DVC- we paid a ton, but because we bought resale, we don't get perks. But I am thrilled with it. I don't need anyone to make me feel special- I consider it a blessing that I'm there, and every trip is what YOU make of it.

Maybe I worded this wrong. I know I am lucky to be able to do these things. I'm not complaining. It just seems that you have to be in a certain category to be able to participate in some of the activities or special merchandise. I can really understand that owning DVC should give you more, since you are paying big bucks to belong. I just wish everyone who goes to Disney or wants to participate in some of the things, or wants to buy a special magicband or what ever, could all be on equal ground.

I agree that everyone should be on equal ground, but Disney is still a business that has to make money, so they make certain things cost more to turn a larger profit. It doesn't mean that anyone is lesser, all it means is that some people were willing to or had the money to get the special magic band, but if you are in Disney World or any Disney resort or cruise, you are very special because you are living a dream that so many have and so few end up realizing.

Life makes a lot more sense when you realize that your own self worth does not come from without but from within. Go. Have fun. Enjoy yourself. Stop worrying about everyone else and the privileges they are being afforded and worry about what you can do to make this trip one that YOU will cherish.

Or don't go. That is an option as well.

I think everyone is on equal ground at the basic level. As with many things, you pay more for different experiences: Broadway shows, sporting events, concerts, movies, a WDW vacation, etc. There are different resort levels to accommodate a wide range of budgets. As someone who owns DVC and has taken many pre-DVC vacations, we have stayed at Value, Moderate, and Deluxe resorts.

As much as I’d like to do certain things, if it’s not my current budget, it’s skipped. I don’t compare my experiences to anyone else’s, and I don’t value my trips any less because I might not have the current resources to try something “more”.

Enjoy the vacations you are able to take and live life with no regrets.
