I'm not a prude, but (at the AKL Hot tub)

Actually, I think most hot tubs are treated with bromine, which is similar to chlorine, but not as strong.

And as someone said, bacteria THRIVE in hot water, and it's anybody's guess as to how often the water is treated.

Actually, bromine can be much stronger than chlorine, and both can be used. I used the hot tun on HAL every day of my Alaskan cruise, they are drained daily and refilled and they were oversanitized to the point of breathing fumes. Think very strong Tilex. I don't know about the every hour check, you need to go to the Florida Health Department rules and regs and see how often the water must be tested, see what the minimum and maximum standards are, and then find out how often the pools/hot tubs are inspected by the governing authority. I may or may not use the hot tub at AKL, but I believe that they are as sanitary as they are supposed to be. The odd hair is going to find its way into the pool or the hot tub, just the nature of things.

I am not however condoning or encouraging hot and heavy behavior in a public pool/spa/hot tub. There is a place for that, and it is not in WDW. But if you choose not to use the facilities for fear of getting "something", make sure you bring plenty of hand sanitizer, all the chains, poles, etc in the ques have tons of gross stuff on them, all the time. Elevator button, door handles, chair backs, water fountain handles, etc.

I know this is extreme but just my personal choice. I used Purell Hand sanitizer on my kids after every couple of rides.

You'd think people ought to know that there are cameras all over all these dark rides....

LOL! We actually call it the "Giant Scrotum" which I guess would also be appropriate in this situation.

Back on topic ... I have never seen anyone "get busy" at a WDW resort in public, although I have seen in at a Science Fiction convention or two . Relaxing in the hot tub is one of my little luxuries when at WDW. I am not a germ-phobic, so I just take a nice shower after getting out of the pool or hot tub :).

I am waiting for robp's next entry too on the trip reports board! Doesn't look like it is going to happen though.
I will remember ALL these stories each time we go to WDW:eek: :p !

My BIL and nephew got hot-tub folliculitis, a kind of skin infection, while in a hotel hot tub. They were miserable for about a week, with little blistery rashes in their "swim trunk areas". I think they just have bad luck, though, or poor immunity. They catch EVERYTHING and I never catch anything. So hot-tub I will, though they will never again.

I don't know how unlucky they are. Even the cruise ship Doc said it was quite common. I'll leave the hot tub for the brave!

I am far from a germaphob. I just think there is a huge difference between stewing in someones skin cells, diseases, pubic hairs, and to put it nicely, bodily fluids OR touching the handrails at the park. Big difference. LOL! Why do you think there are signs near hot tubs that say that people with skin conditions, open wounds, ect are not allowed in the hot tubs? If that wonderful bromine and chlorine killed off that bacteria then they wouldn't need to put such signs up. That is a stewpot full of bacteria but you and anyone else is more then welcome to take a dip. You won't have to worry about me taking up any room in it! LOL!

Since people keep bringing up their age, I thought I should jump in. I'm 23 and I think it's disgusting! I'm going to WDW in August for my honeymoon and I can't even imagine doing any of these things were some poor kid could see us. I don't think it has anything to do with your age, it has everything to do with maturity and hormones:D Some of us can control em and some people just don't care.

Yuck!

Maybe it's another reason for disney to make a adult-only resort :p

That is pretty gross at a family hotel at 5pm (33 here.) If they wanted to act like that they should go to a Hedonism resort! I think I got a bladder infection from my friends hot tub this past winter. I have NEVER had one before and the day after I went in their hot tub I got one. I think after this thread I am staying away from them.

As for topless/thongs we always see a ton of them in Mexico. All of the resorts we have stayed at are family ones too.

This is coming from someone who REALLY is far from being in their 30's, and in fact, is under 21. And while very mature - it burns me that it could in fact have been my own youngster who walked in on such a thing.... While disney-yachter may "have the same feelings" about it being uncomfortable. I think it is more poignant givin the fact that she is so young, albeit very bright and obviously mature. In fact I'll wager that her feelings are a bit different than those of us over 21 who would witness such a thing and maybe have a chuckel over it at the couple's expense.

I feel sorry that she had to witness any of those things -

awww your so sweet....I can only imagine how an actual mother feels on this situaution....I have yet to tell my own mother of my latest "discovery" in the CBR bathroom...or at the other locations

I don't mind the public affection...sometimes its so hopeful to see someone in their late 60s have just as much passion as the newlyweds at 25yo....even a middle age couple showing affection these days is hopeful with all the latest studies on divorces and seperation....

Its experiences like the ones I mentioned that honestly make me nearly sick...not because of the actual "act" , or the fact that I had to witness it...its that while on that boat in Splash Mountain there were several young kids in the front 2 rows....and while on my way out of the bathroom at CBR I had to lie to a family about why they couldn't go in....
You have to say its pretty bad when I have to lie to a family because they can't go in that bathroom...I nearly broke down in tears because I felt like I was the one that did something wrong...

I will say its humorous...and my friend and myself did have several laughs about it....but when you break it down....its some what frustrating....
I'd rather be laughing about my friend tripping down main street then seeing a couple doing it at a public bathroom....

I've never seen anyone getting busy or close to it at WDW. If I ever did, I find humiliation works best. Going up to them and saying:
- "You know, that looks just like my beagles' only smaller"
- "WHOA! Put the mouse back in the house!"
- Ask them if they need a "protection" and if so, what color. Perhaps red to match their faces?
- Ask if they have a room at the hotel and if so, why don't they go to it
- Talk about the kid you saw piddling in the hot tub just a little bit ago

I also LOVE the idea of taking digital pics that they can "see on the internet".

Butt floss bathing suits have no business at WDW (I'm 40 and WAY NO PRUDE). You want to wear a suit like that or get busy, go to Hedo, thats what its for!

My new suit, while a bikini, is full coverage and has a cover-up skirt as well for walking down to the pool. I really don't want to see anyones bare bum in my face.

If people can't be shamed into behaving properly, go to the manager. They get paid to deal with guests behaving badly.

I personally want to thank everyone who has posted. My family stays at a disney resort at least twice a year and I always wondered about the "cleanliness" of the hot tubs because I think its inevitable that some couple is going to get adventurous, if only for the thrill of not being caught. Im definitely no prude, but I have just always thought that the idea of using a public hot tub was pretty much disgusting. I just dont want to soak in other peoples warm bath water and this thread has only confirmed that. I was about to get some lunch, but all of a sudden all I see is floating hairs, etc. There goes the old appetite!!!

you now tha saying
"I don't swim in your toilet, don't pee in my pool"

I'm suprised no one has made up a new one like...
"I don't soak in your bed, don't have sex in my hot tub"
or even a little raunchier...
"I don't go in your bed, don't "come" in my hot tub"...

Ok..I know there korny...but I couldn't resist

   at Bostonyachter.

I never really thought about the cleanliness of the hot tubs before reading everyone's thoughts on here. Personally, if I went in a hot tub in Florida in June, i'd pass out from heat exhaustion. I do like to think that every day or so, they drain the HT and fill it fresh but that sounds like wishful thinking.

I think WDW and the AKL are both very romantic places, and am all for people having a great time down there... but just keep the nudity and other things to the room you paid for.
