Darned Books-A-Million!!!!!!!!!! :teeth:

On Monday I bought "A Child Called It" and had it finished by Monday night. Last night I bought the 2nd book, "The Lost Boy". I stayed up until after midnight to finish it. I want to read the 3rd one, but don't want to spend the money for a few hours worth of reading. I think I'll get a library card.

I have "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" by Stephen King to read now. Hopefully, I'll take more than a few hours to read it.

How do you NOT read an entire book in a day?????

You sound like my DD....A book is gone in about 1 day...I purchased a thick hardback expensive ($25) book for easter I told her it had to last a week or I was never buying her another book....didn't work....:D :D :D :D

I bought DD a book about Helen Keller. She's enjoying it alot. She read half of it last night. I"m sure it will be finished by tonight (if she ever gets in the house :) )

I don't know, I always read my books too fast. Especially anything less than 1000 pages :(

So, I just spend more time on the DIS, it makes my books last longer :)

The Girl who loved Tom Gordon is a fast read actually... :)

I reccommend Patricia Cornwell books if you like forensics and mysteries :)

It sounds like you and Kendra need to make a trip to the library, Jules. :)

remember when "the green mile" came out in those 100 page mini books?

well at the time i was working at the library.... so when they came in, (before they even went into circulation) me and my good friend would fight to see who could get the next one first.... but those books only took an hour to read. so it wasn't too bad of a wait if i didn't get there in time....

go to the library (can you say cheap?)... i love ours here in Lakeland... it's beautiful....

I tend to read fast, too. I will forever laugh at myself for my jr. high school folly. I had never seen or read Gone With The Wind, but had heard the quote, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn," many times. Well, one friday I decided to see what it was all about...I told myself that I'd read that weekend at least until I got to that part. Doh! I didn't realize it was at the end...and that was a long book! There went my weekend, but I loved it and have seen the movie many times.

I try to take longer with books, but I get so into them I just can't. The beauty is that I will reread books over and over again. Even mysteries...after a few years I don't always remember who did it.

I have resold some books on Amazon.Com. As soon as I list them, they sell. I usually charge below the lowest price listed.
They allow you money for shipping too.
It's more than I would get for them at a yard sale. I've sold some really great books at yard sales for a couple of dollars by the time people talk me down. This way you get a little more and the buyers are happy.
It was much easier for me than EBay.
I don't know if your interested in this, but it's a great way to not feel so guilty buying new books, one after another!

I love getting lost in a book and that "you just can't put it down" feeling. Unfortunately, with DD and my job, it's harder to find the time to read them as fast as I used to. The good side, now a book will take me a week or two to read instead of a day or two so it does stretch it out a bit.

The books I read lately have been fairly short. I have 2 bigger books that I'm waiting to read. I'm afraid that if I move to longer books too soon, I"ll lose interest.

I have The Lion's Game by Nelson DeMille and The Black House by Stephen King. I hope they can keep my interest after a couple hundred pages. :teeth:

Ooooooooh Thank for reminding me...

Before I read Black Hous I have to re-read The Talisman... one of my favorite books :) :) better get on that... :)

Shoot, preshi, are you telling me I need to read the Talisman first?????

I believe Black House is the sequel to the Talisman book...

or at least I thought it was... if not Read it anyways it's a great one!!

Edit: Yep I was right...

From amazon:

Of course, this is no ordinary policeman, but Jack Sawyer, hero of Stephen King and Peter Straub's 1984 fantasy The Talisman. At the end of that book, the 13-year-old Jack had completed a grueling journey through an alternate realm called the Territories, found a mysterious talisman, killed a terrible enemy, and saved the life of his mother and her counterpart in the Territories. Now in his 30s, Jack remembers nothing of the Talisman, but he also hasn't entirely forgotten.

Jules, a friend told me today that DeMille's Lion's Game is excellent! Let us know if it's true, I'll buy it next week.

you know what else... I take my used books, the ones I can part with LOL, to ta local bookstore and they give me credit for them...then when I buy new books I usually only end up payin a dollar for them :)

I actually Got a First Edition Of To Kill A Mockingbird that way :) $1.00 for a awesome treasure isnt too bad in my book :)

I too can read a book in one sitting. At our local used book store you can only get used books with books one trades in. And I have a phobia about library books and used books; I like to read in bed and don't like to read used books or library books in bed. I guess I think they are germy or something. I know this is silly, but that is just the way I am.

my husband hates used books, too, probably for the same reason. I love them, though...especially old books. Something about sharing a book with the person who read it before you. I even love it if I see scribbles in the margins. I have some great old books that were published in the late 1800s and early 1900s. They are so small!

We have a used book store in our middle school - $1 per book, it is great. Unfortunately that is the room I use to test kids in and I'm buying at least $5 of books per week! Mostly for my kids they are younger and a lot of kids brought in there great books to trade in. I got the 4th Harry Potter in hard back for $2.

Jules all the kids in our school read that book and A Man Called Dave. I can't get through it, it upsets me too much. My teacher and I were discussing and we think that maybe, just maybe the author stretched the truth a bit to sell books. We both kind of thought the same thing.

i read all 3 of the Child called it books They were hard to read (emotionally).

We pass books around at my work and I also get alot of books at yard sales and on ebay

I also LOVE audio tapes and listen to them to and from work and when I am walking or mowing

Ebay is the best place to buy them
