I am scheduling a trip to Disney and we (my BF and I) picked the Poly. I am nervous however because I have been doing a little research on the resort. I looked at previous posts and see that some people complain of mold in the rooms. I am very allergic to mold, etc... So I am wondering, is this something I should worry about? It looks like such a great resort. I'm not sure I'd like the dark colors and I have to admit the pictures make it look dated but it also seems to have a relaxing feel that I think I would love. But the whole mold thing scares me. I just want to make sure I made the right choice. Me and my BF and shelling out quite a pretty penny for this vacation and I don't want to be disapointed. Any imput would be appreciated!

If you're nervous and not too fond of it then switch. I decided to switch from the Poly to the Grand Floridian just because I liked the whole theme of the GF more than the Poly not because I was afraid of mold. Maybe if you're not so sure about staying at the Poly, take a look at the other resorts and see if you like another better. But if you think you'll like the Poly, stay with it. A lot of people like the Poly. I haven't been to WDW yet so I can't really say which one you'd like better. I just liked the theme of the GF more than the Poly, that's the only reason why we switched for our upcoming trip.

I read all those things too and it did keep me from the Poly for awhile. Fortunately I came to my senses and tried it for myself. I've never regretted it! We have been there 30 days a year for the last 3 years and still look forward to going back in 50 days!! This resort is the MOST enjoyable and relaxing little piece of heaven I have ever been to. I have never seen mold or noticed any smell in all trips I've been there. I too thought the place looked dated until I found out that the decor is current Polynesia decor. I have grown to love the colors and decor. You will be totally immersed the minute you walk through those lobby doors. I can think if nothing better then to relax in the pool, smelling the wonderful gardenias abloom, and watching the little boats zip around on the lake in front of the castle. I have visited the GF and could have gotten it cheaper then the Poly last year but decided not to. Why mess with a perfect vacation. :)

Stick with the Poly and when you get there if there are problems with mold or other issues that you can't live with have them switch your room or possibly the resort. I found that opinions vary dramatically when it comes to resorts. I read some really bad things about Caribbean Beach and when I went there I loved it. Also sometimes people may have a particulary bad experience and judge the whole resort on that one time.

Some people are more tolerable than others so you have to factor that in too. I have never stayed at the Poly, but I love to go just to eat there or walk around the lobby. One day when I want to splurge and go for the deluxe resort, I think it would definitely be that one.

Have a great trip.

This will be our fourth time staying at the Poly. I cannot tell you how much we love this resort. It seems that all resorts go through phases on the boards, the Poly was getting glowing reviews only about a month ago. It seems that sometimes we give more weight to poor trip reports than good ones. I am here to tell you we have stayed there three times and have NEVER experienced anything less than a stellar time. I would certainly not keep returning and paying $200 + a night (A/P rate) for resort that I was not totally impressed with. Ultimately the decision you make should be based on what YOU are looking for in a resort. Maybe you can spilt your stay and make up your own mind. I hate to see you miss out on the Poly due to some mixed reviews. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! No matter what your decision have a wonderful trip! :D

I was nervous about stayiny there a few yrs ago and it was nothing. I loved it there, I didn't see mold, smell mold or anything else that would be a deturance to a great vacation. Hope you have a great trip no matter what you decide to do. :D

I've personally never seen mold and I'm allergic to it (very!) and so it would really bother me if I'd encountered it. We've stayed there 8 times.

Right now, I'd be more concerned about the mold at the CR! Sorry, that was a bad joke. They have all that water damage from the burst pipe!!!!

We love the Poly. All I can do is give you our experience with it and that's been very good!

Obviously, no resort is perfect and there will always be circumstances where the cleanliness and service does not "measure up".

However, we have stayed at the Poly at least 30 times over the years and have never had a problem with mold or the overall condition of the room or resort.

We were there in July at the Samoa building and our room was very clean and the grounds were pristine.

Have a great trip!

Ive been to the Poly quite a few times and have never had any mold in my rooms.
Honestly on our most recent trip we had a few problems there, but I still wouldnt say dont stay there....and I would still go back there again. Its a beautiful resort, with great restaurants, good transportation options, a breathtaking view from the beach....

Hello:

If you want a truly relaxing resort, that has the most beautiful grounds, nice large rooms, stay with the poly.

We have stayed 4 times and have NEVER had any problem with mold in the room. There are three of us in our family who get severe migraines from all sorts of ordors, foods we eat etc, and we have had no problem with this resort.

The rooms are a huge size, if you are lucky you will have a balcony or patio, which we use all the time. We did not think the rooms were dark, more a tan and green colour.

If you are having any kind of problem go and speak to a manager politely, and I am sure that your problem will be solved.

The poly is our fav resort.

With so many choices at WDW, there's a resort for everyone and every taste. Dosn't settle. Book a room that you're comfortable with. As for me, I love the Poly, but I recognize it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

We've stayed at the Poly a half dozen times now and indeed - on about the 3rd trip the first room we were taken to had an unusual smell to it - it wasn't unpleasant to my two boys or I, but my wife wasn't sure about it - and that's the best way to say it.

While the bellman was toting in all the junk we travel with she said something about the smell being odd - and INSTANTLY he suggested that he call the front desk and get our room switched for us. It was all done in a handful of minutes, and our new room keys/passes were brought over within minutes (to the new room).

That experience is one of the reasons that I rave about the Polynesian. NEVER hesitate to ask for pretty much anything there :-) They are the most accomodating resort ever.

On past trips, we've found that most of the mold problems at any of the WDW resorts occur on the first level. WDW is built on a lot of swamp land!

We had a moldy first floor room at POR Mansions, and my cousin's family had a mold/wet carpet problem in their handicap accessible first floor room at CBR.

How about if you request an upper floor?

We first stayed at the Poly back in Feb and it became our favorite resort.

We went back in July - can't think of one bad thing to say about it. The CMs are great, it's so relaxing, and LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. In both instances, didn't smell any mold. If you were to get a room that is musty or moldy, which I doubt, simply call the front desk and I'll bet they would move you.

DON'T SWITCH.

I was there in July at the same time PamNC was and I didn't care for it at all. I had been 13 years earlier and had decided to give it another try. It's just not my kind of resort. I didn't get the tropical feel that I remembered 13 years ago either. This time it felt more like a jungle. Everyone has different tastes and I guess that's why every resort is equally filled up with guests.

I REALLY appreciate these responses. I am glad you had such a good time there. It's the first vacation I'm taking in such a long while. I've been saving forever it seems. So I cannot wait! I think I'll give it a shot. If anyone else wants to post a report from their trip at the Poly... by all means!! I'd love to hear more about the resort!

I am just taking a wild guess that you have seen tikimans site all about the poly. If not say so and I or someone else will send you the site address.

I am so glad you decided to give the Poly a shot! I absolutely *love* the Polynesian! When I'm there, I feel like I'm in some exotic South Pacific Island. . . I just love walking the grounds in the evening, when the tiki torches are lit and the Hawaiian music is playing! *sniff sniff* I just switched my ressies from the Poly to POFQ since my h won't go, and therefore his credit card won't go either  -- and I am just heartbroken! ;) So therefore, you just have to go and enjoy it for me! :D

Hey cottontail, Yes I have seen Tikiman's site. In fact, I appreciate all that he's done to show what the Poly is all about and he's probably one of the reasons I decided to think about staying there. His site is great.

We stayed at the Poly in 2001. It was so perfect. After the hussle of the parks, it was so relaxing to come to the lush tropics. Our room was in no way dark, the tans were great I thought. The bathroom had a darker shade to it, but no problem for me. Some of my favorite times during that trip were sitting on our balcony in the mornings and evenings, it really felt as though I was at a tropical resort, no sign of the busyness that is really so close in the parks. The room was very clean, no smell whatsoever. My dh is a very picky smeller, and would have immediately said he couldn't stand it even if there had been a minor smell. The room was a great size. Seemed to me that wherever your room was, it was easy to get wherever you wanted to get to. Park access was wonderful. Great pool!
We are returning in October, and the Poly was our first choice. We have also stayed at the Grand Flo, enjoyed it very much, but I like the grounds of the Poly better.
The decision is certainly yours, and do what you feel comfortable with, but if you enjoy lush peace you should enjoy the Poly. I agree with the posters above, if you found a problem, they will be happy to help you.
Whatever you decide, I hope you have a fantastic trip!

Colleen
