Well after gathering much info from this board, and doing some calculating, I spoke to a "guide" a while ago, and after fine-tuning my # of points to purchase, I'm calling back to give her the number!! Now I'm getting nervous (or is it excited!!). Just looking for some moral support. It's only money, right?! And I'm going to spend it anyway, right?! And I'm going to continue to break my bank to get us to WDW every year anyway, right?! This will be really important for my kids, right?!! Okay, gotta go before I lose my nerve.

Thanks, I needed that!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

And don't worry! From our peak of nervousness at the point you're at now, we have only grown more and more excited and satisfied with our purchase. I've hardly read any posts expressing any regret at joining DVC. I predict you'll love it! :) Congratulations again on taking the plunge.

Read the recent posts. Don't believe the hype. Read everything over and over again.

If you are still happy then go for it.

You will love it Bravemom, we have been members since 1992 and I have never had one regret. We love it!

I'm sorry that you stopped responding to my posts on the other two threads where we were talking. I found the discussion quite lively. By the way, my cousins live in Clifton, it's a very nice town.

Hi Bravemom!

I'll answer YES to all your questions!! You are nervous and excited!! If you plan on primarily staying in the DVC villa's, you are SET!!! No regular on-site accomodations come even close to matching any of the three DVC locations!!! For us it was truly a no brainer!! DVC offers the only villa's that have full kitchen, washer/dryer & whirlpool tub on property! Since we loved all those things... it was pretty clear cut for us!!!

JohnHM, Clifton is o.k. Thanks. It was better 20 years ago. Oh well. It is fun to debate. I should have joined back in 95. My loss, but at this juncture it doesn't seem appropriate to purchase.

Maybe I will wait for BCV. We shall see...

SGTPet,
What part of Clifton are you from? I grew up in the Botany section. I lived on Cheever Ave right across from the Dundee Canal. I moved to South Jersey around 14 years ago. I have visited Clifton once in a while. Man has it changed!! or is it me!!

We closed about three weeks ago and will soon be staying at DLH on points! .:D No regrets so far - good luck with your decision!

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I made my call, and requested the purchase of 190 points at VWL, gave them a deposit, and they're sending the papers out tomorrow!:D I'll also call back tomorrow to make my ressies for next May/June. Now I'll have twice the points for that trip since I can't use any until then.

Congrats, maybe you can do like we did and call for your add-on before your first purchase closes LOL!! We bought 150 and are sitting on the paperwork for the 50pt. add-on. VWL rules!!:smooth:

BraveMom3, before you decide to bank all your points, make sure you are certain that you will not decide to make a trip to WDW before next May or June. We purchased in March and banked all our points and planned a trip for Dec/Jan. Two months later, we wanted to go down and ended up adding on enough points to cover our stay. Plus, with airfares low, we planned another trip which we are leaving for on Sun. We have to borrow points for this trip. It's hard to wait that long when you know you have the points to use.

Congratulations on becoming DVC members!

Congratulations on a wise decision. We have only one regret about our DVC purchase, and that is that we didn't do it when we first heard about it. Just thinking about how much we would have saved if we had done this in '92 makes my head ache! After your first stay, I predict you will be trying to figure out how to get more points!:D

Hi there Mom, I waited and waited, and the only reason was cashflow. I finally had the right opportunity this past OCt and jumped on some of the last OKW points available. I had much trepidation to incurring additional debt, but we have already had 2 stays at OKW in 2001 and another one coming this Oct and will have 55 points left for next year. We have stayed in a studio, and have loved it. Not having stayed in a 1 or 2 bedroom we don't know what we are missing, and that probably is the way to keep it for us :)

I can tell you that the grandest feeling is when you check out and your total bill for hotel is .35 for telephone charges. It was great. Granted I have the monthly payment I make, but I am so used to that I don't even think about it any more.

After your first stay at DVC, your reservations should all disappear.

I am familiar with the part of the country you live in. I attended Biloxi High for 2 years back in the late 60's. I know the area has changed greatly due to the gambling industry. I have returned several times and have enjoyed the "Grand".

An advance Welcome Home to you.

Thanks for the great replies. I'm trying to decide on my ressies this a.m. so I can call with that info, and GCM13 made me think about the banking thing. Your right about maybe wanting to go before May/June when you know "it's just sitting there, paid for (or being paid for)"! The only time I think I would really want to make an extra trip is during the Christmas holidays sometime, so we can see the decor!! But isn't the availability for that time usually pretty slim by now?

Bravemom3
Slim yes, but not impossible. Especially if you are flexible with dates and don't really care which resort you stay at. The decorations go up November 21, so anytime after that is good. I guess I would start right away to see what is available and fits into your schedule. Kind of a nice early gift for all of you.

You actually can't bank your points until you close, which will be in about a month (they'll give you a projected closing date). But you can make ressies as soon as you tell them you are in and they give you a member number.

I just bought and am going through this for next year. I want to bank my points and use them for next year, and maybe bank those next year for future year, etc. When I made the ressie, they couldn't use any banked points from this year since I hadn't closed yet. So my ressie is under next year's points.

Once I close, I can bank my points from this year and ask Member Services to reallocate my reservation to the banked points, freeing up next year's points. I was assured this would be no problem and it would not affect my reservation.

Just wanted to give you this tip so you didn't think you had to wait to make a reservation until after you banked your points.

Very best wishes from a fellow VWLer!

And a premature WELCOME HOME!

Granny

Thanks for all the advice. Talked to DVC this afternoon, and the documents will be sent out to me next week. Told them I was going to have mull over the ressie thing. This could complicate things!! I've always just had the one choice, once per year, right after school's out. Now I'm thinking bigger!!!:D

Hi BraveMom, if you're seriously thinking about going in December, you could have your guide check with Member Services for availability then put a hold on something. We've had our guide do this for us twice. Whenever I called MS, they would not let me put a hold on a room. I hope I didn't make things harder for you since I suggested you think about banking! Good luck with your decision!
