I'm lost! No VMK for me! - IT WORKS NOW!!!!

Well, I finally bit the bullet, bought my first computer ( other was an old handmedown ) am waiting for the new cheap DSL hook up but......

I can't get the darned thing to let me download shockwave player!
I've tried all the security places, obviously missing the correct one.

How can I possibly go on????

I know the way I did it was (and this was using Mozilla Firefox), I tried to sign on and it told me I needed to download the shockwave plugin to play. It said "click here to download". I clicked, it downloaded automatically, and then it worked. Or you could search for "free shockwave download" on google and download it from there. Other than those options, I don't know much about it, so if that does not work, I can't help ya.

Thanks guys. I've been on the Macromedia site dozens of times, changed all my security settings every which way and still no luck.

I get a warning window about there being no signature - which I have security now allowing with a prompt - so I click on INSTALL. The top of the window will say "download complete" but the product is not installed.

I am ashamed to say that 50% of the reason for the new computer and DSL was to play VMK. So I will be working overtime for many many moons to pay for nothing. Hey the smilies worked - must have been one of the security settings I changed. Wonder which one it was?

When I downloaded the shockplayer it pretended I didn't, so I just kept trying. It finally approved!

what are you security setting set at?

Sounds like to me you are not allowing something that needs to be allowed.

Do not have your security setting set above Medium.

If you bought a new computer for the purpose of playing VMK and it does not work, I suggest calling the manufactuer and asking them what to do. They may charge money for tech support, but those are the breaks, kid!

Or maybe you could go to a computer help site and find the answers there.

I will admit that I am saving all my money to buy a computer,just to play VMK better.If it doesn't work,most likely I will scream!

Do you have a firewall up? You might have to temporarily bring it down to load shockwave. That's the problem that I was having when I first began to play VMK>

I finally found the one little box to uncheck. I forget how I got there but it allows me to download things with invalid signatures - like shockwave. The download worked fine as did the install. Now VMK starts to allow me to log in ( such a tease! ) and then tells me I am missing an "Xfile" - hey wasn't that show cancelled????

I will try again later and get the exact wording. Truth be told, they know that once I am able to play the games for the first time I will be too good and blow the high scores away. So they are giving me a hard time. Uh - I don't think so!

Thanks for all the suggestions. No need to PAY for tech help, my family are all techies, they are just all tied up right now. I know I will see them on Thursday, maybe I can get some answers then. Unless I solve this next part myself!

We will have a party once I'm in and playing.

My DSL turned on today and I was determined to figure this out. So duh - I went to help. All I had to do was copy three URL's into the trusted web sites! I had copied the files from my old computer, from my sisters cool computer and downloaded that puppy forever and nothing worked. I looked up macromedia in help, it told me the URL's to add, I did it and SHAZAM!

I was playing fireworks and trading with myself. I couldn't do either on the old system. So I will try to remember what I did for the next person who has the same problem.
