I'm looking for the cheapest "across the street" motel that also has free parking

We find that the BW Stovalls at the corner of Katella and Harbor offers excellent AAA rates. They charge 8.00 for parking, but even with this fee the total is usually less than 80.00 a night and it includes a decent breakfast. We walk up Disneyland Drive and cut through the Grand Californian so the walk isn't too bad. Candy Cane Inn had rates starting at 95.00 for several dates this year and they have free parking, breakfast, and a shuttle if you want to use it. Of course, HOJO's has free parking, and it's still my first choice if I can a great rate.

We stayed there over this past Thanksgiving weekend - cheap, like $65 a night! I got it from LMT and I knew what I was getting prior to confirming my puchase using this tip

The ent rate at HoJo is awesome, Anaheim Plaza is decent *no more than $60 per night is my limit there, DD & I spent 2 nights at the Motel 6 *Katella* for her 7th b-day trip *she had a stroller for that visit.

Are all 4 of the kids in the picts. in your siggy going? For some reason, I thought the Super 8 only allowed 4 to a room, but I usually look at the one on Katella. Does the one on Disneyland drive allow more people, or do you get 2 rooms?
Yes, they do limit to 4. They probably do like we did when I traveled with 4 kids and got 2 rooms. We used the Super 8 on Katella once, and while I requested connecting rooms because of the kids, we were not connected. I was NOT a happy camper, and we haven't used them again.

Though I haven't stayed there since I was a child, when we thought we'd be traveling to DL this coming August, I found the best rates for walking distance hotels at BW Stovalls Inn. I know it was under $100 a night. They do charge $8 for parking. Its pretty well reviewed and they have free breakfast. Stovalls is about as far as I'm personally willing to consider walking distance so I didn't look at onces further away than that.

Directly across the street from DL entrance we've had good stays with BW Park Place Inn and also Desert Inn and Suites. Both charge parking and have free breakfast. And a little further away we've been happy with Hojo's.

Our friends recently stayed at BW Anaheim Inn and were happy with their stay as well. I've noticed that rates there are usually a bit cheaper than BWPPI.

Thanks so much, everyone! This is all great info.

It was the BW Anaheim Inn we stayed at. It seemed "across the street" last time we visited, but now I remember that the time before, when I was carrying a sleeping 3-year-old the entire way, we passed the BW PPI and I remember thinking "THAT'S where we should have stayed." ;)

I've been checking tons of hotel sites, hotels.com, Priceline, etc., weighing all the factors: price, convenience, etc. Condition is not a huge issue but we don't want cockroaches or bed bugs either ;)

We're leaning toward ruling out Super 8 and the others that are a longer walk. Do you think there's a security issue walking to them after midnight? We weren't worried at BWAI because it was so crowded.

Also, great tip on not getting hung up on the parking charges. Now we'll look at it more in total. I do want to be able to leave the car there before checkin; that was one perk we liked at BWAI.

Thanks again!

No, they are not all going. My oldest is away at school. Super 8 has never once said they had any problems with us having 5 to a room, though. You can call them and ask..I asked the first time we went and they said it was fine...that was in '03. You can't make ressies online that way, but you can call them directly and do it over the phone. When we've gone we've always only had 3 kids (and until the last time we went, whichever child was the youngest at the time was always 2 years old or younger - so maybe that made the difference?...that one was a baby? I don't remember being asked for the ages of the kids staying in the room, though...), and last time when we went, my oldest stayed in a separate room with our in-laws.

Several hotels in Anaheim do the same thing, and I know that because I've called several of them over the years to make sure first. You won't be able to type in more than 4 in an online reservation, but if you call, many of them will tell you that 5 is OK. I just did that with another hotel in Anaheim last week, and I'm trying to remember which one it is I called.....if I remember, I'll post it.

To the poster who commented on the carpets...I don't disagree, although the rooms have been remodeled in the past few years (we've only stayed there twice in the last 4 years, but it seems the remodels were being done back in 2008?), and the carpets were changed out, so the new stuff isn't bad. Certainly not any worse (and sometimes, even better) than some other places that charge more than twice as much per night. Like I said, we paid $120 per night at Comfort Inn and it was disgusting. By ALL accounts, I am an OCD-clean-freak-germaphobe, and would NEVER have my children sleeping somewhere gross. So far, we've never PERSONALLY had a situation at Super 8 that made me feel like it wasn't something I could tolerate (again though, for reference, I Lysol the carpets and sheets, and quickly hit the bathroom and doorknobs, tv remotes, faucet handles, lightswitches, etc. with Clorox wipes - but I do that at ALL hotels we stay in, not just Super 8).

Ramada Maingate offers free parking, free wifi, free breakfast... and yes, they'll let you park early on your arrival day. They also offer specials, and the staff is very friendly. Call them directly for the best deal. You can get an extra $10 off per night by mentioning the tripadvisor coupon. Ask for a renovated room! Hotel is an easy 5 minute walk from the gates. They also have a very nice pool area and hot tub.

While the Hojo is a helpful suggestion, not in this thread. The OP is going in July and they won't be paying anything close to that rate if staying at the Hojo.

Pardon me:sad2:

As I was posting guess I should have included the online prices was $139 AAA $119 entertainment book $103 and the AP rate of $59 that they added a week before the trip. I booked with the hotel and kept checking to see if the prices dropped and they did. Like the OP asked, yes find a hotel that has no cancellation fees so just in case you find a cheaper rate you can cancel your existing ressie.

We went peak time for Christmas and every hotel was over $100 per night, keep looking and checking rates and hopefully you will find a price drop!

Stayed at the Ramada Maingate in April and staying there again Feb 6-11. They have great customer service...rooms are fine, free parking, breakfast (though nothing fancy), internet, a brand new pool and it is right across the street.....hard to beat! :)

The issue with having more than 4 or 5 in a hotel room is not really a hotel policy thing--it is a fire code situation. If they tell you "yes" you can stay there and you have a family of 6, then they had better have enough square footage to accomodate you. They can get in serious trouble letting a family of 6 stay there.

We are a family of five, and have run into this problem in some hotels. I love hotels that will accomodate all of us--especially if they have a daybed already in the room for the extra person. One year we went to Maui and stayed at the Hyatt Regency, and the only way we could stay there was connecting rooms. It was so expensive! I still shudder when I think of that hotel bill.

A family of 6 typically needs a suite hotel.
