I'm Looking for a Pet-Sitter in the Greater Boston Area

I am looking for recommendations for pet-sitters or "cageless" kennels in the Greater Boston area for my 17 year old dachshund. We only put her in a kennel when we fly to Orlando.

She had been boarding with her vet, but after the last time, DH said "never again". She was dirty, listless and her bedding was soiled even though I provided clean towels and bedding. For $41 a day, I expected better and we had received better in the past. DH spoke to the vet about it and he became defensive of his staff (I kind of expected that).

I am looking for a true dog-lover who will care for her in his/her home. I have no family in the area or friends who could care for her, the way she needs to be cared for. She needs a lot of human contact and fussing over.

bumping for you.........I'm no where near Boston, but hopefully someone is and can help you. A 17 year old dog??? If it were me I'd visit other vets, try to find one you like for boarding and have her boarded there. The trick is to arrive unannouced and ask to see their boarding facilities. That way you can tell if they are clean and dogs seem to be happy. I understand if you don't want to change vets, but at least a vet would be on site to help in case she needed assistance. I have an older dog too (14 years) and if I had to leave her out of town I would want her to be in a place that can professionally care for an older dog in case the need arose. Good luck!

Mem, I can sympathize with you. We left our dog with our vet and ended up with a bill almost double what it should have been. They had to give him medicine for an upset system so we had to pay for the med as well as them giving it to him. Turns out, his system was upset because they didn't feed him his regular food that we left for them. I thought leaving him with his vet would be the best thing, boy was I wrong.

Anyway, I live North of Boston and the last time we boarded our dog was at Muddy Creek in Rowley. We had a good experience with them and there is a vet next door, so if they needed medical attention, it was there.

I don't know of anyone personally, but you may want to check around to different vets, they could recommend someone. You may want to check when you're at the pet store, they may know of people.

Thanks for the replies! We don't want to change vets since she has been with him since she was 10 weeks old and has given her good, if expensive care. When my DH politely informed him of the "care" she had received at his kennel, he suggested that "next time you get a friend to take care of her". Not practical.

I am really looking for a clone of me to take care of her, someone who thinks dogs were put on this earth to be spoiled rotten!
