I'm Looking At This, But Can't Believe It

On table service meals, is each person at the table allowed an appetizer? If so, I can't imagine that much food after adding entree and dessert! As a family of four, we usually share 1 appetizer. Not complaining, but that's alot of food.

well now that depends on who's sitting at your table, LOL. Each person on the plan is allowed an appetizer, entree, dessert, and soft drink and YES it's a LOT of food. :)

Oh man, I'm in trouble!! I better get on the treadmill now and not get off until we leave!!

It sure is a lot of food. We're planning on trying a lot of things we wouldn't have tried otherwise. Do keep in mind that you're not obligated to clean every plate. If you just want a taste of something, that's fine.

It is a lot of fun and I tend to eat too much of it. My DH tells people when we come back from WDW that he cannot believe how much his DW eats. I am one of those that when I am on vacation it is vacation and yes I EAT. Plus it's a great variety. My family are picky eaters so all we eat is hamburger and chicken and there only so many ways I can prepare it without someone complaining. One good thing is with all the walking you do in WDW it burns it off. I have yet to gain a pound from a trip.

I love that you get an appetizer. Here at home we always start dinner with a salad. I am more worried about not finishing my dessert! LOL! Maybe I'll eat my meals in reverse at WDW in Dec.

We had a lot of fun with it a few weeks ago, since we rarely order appetizers. We figured if we each got one, and we didn't like it, well, nothing was really lost! Of course, it turns out we actually liked just about everything we ordered! LOL! But, with all the walking and sweating, even after 8 days on DDP, neither DH nor I gained a single pound! :thumbsup2

Yes, it is a TON of food! My husband and I could not believe how much food it was. It's really kinda ridiculous just how much food you get. We felt like complete and total pigs....next time we go we are NOT going to eat quite so much.

All of the TS we dined at had started salads and soup on their appetizer menus. It's what I chose in most cases as I'm not a big eater normally.

Last time we where on the Plan. I knew it would be a large amount of food. What I did was ordered a smaller main course and if available a smaller app. Example: at LeCellier I ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and the 7 oz. Fillet. I then orderd the Chocolate Cake :cool1: . I would normally order the 14 oz steak with no app.

We also had an Ace In The Hole: our 18 month old son. He would get parts of our Apps. That made a lot of the apps go (sometimes on the floor :rotfl: ).
Can you get your hands on a 1 to 3 year old? :teeth: :lmao:

I am a firm believer that Disney walking negates all excess food eaten while on vacation!

we ordered 4 different appertizers and had a share of each

Yes. Everyone can order an appetizer. If you order a "real" app and not just a soup or salad then I agree it is a lot of food. My husband and I used the DDP this past Sept and we usually have a sald or soup as an app so it was normal for us.

Yes its great. But the best part is, you don't have to finish it! I loved being on the DDP and not feeling bad leaving the last bite of creme brulee on the plate. My favorite part was getting to try everything.

At Kona's I was told that the reason the Kiddie Kone was taken off the kids menu was because it was wasted by "one bite". There were huge waste so they took it off the DDP for kids. The same thing for the Smores at Prime Time. Everyone at the table insisted on having their own when it was meant for at least two people. They then could only eat part and the rest was tossed out. They decided to half the portion but keep the price. Another one bites the dust because of the DDP. Honestly all this trying one bite has and there and wasting it is just dwindling the menu more and more. There is NO way anyone can eat all of an appetizer, entree, and dessert at a meal and still walk out. I do consider a soup to be an appetizer too. If I were on the DDP I would only order what we could truly eat and not every single thing that comes with it.

So what did you do with all the leftovers? Did you take it with you or let them toss it out? You really didn't feel bad about trying a bite here and there with no intention of eating all of it?

I haven't tried this myself, but a neighbor told me that when she goes to Disney she allows her boyfriend to order from the dining plan using one credit and then just orders a little something for herself and then they share his appetizer that way they have credits left for some signature dining experiences or a sit down lunch

Folks defintely shouldn't feel bad about taking one or two bites of something that they don't often have the opportunity to try, like an appetizer or dessert, and throwing the rest away. That's one of the great aspects of the Dining Plan, that you get to try all these normally-expensive add-ons, without paying extra. It sure would be nice to be able to tell the server just how many bites you want of something, and then have them serve you just that much, but it is generally less trouble for the restaurant to just serve you the full portion anyway.

Although we felt it was way to much food we would do the dining plan again for several reason.

1. Love the whole pre-pay idea.

2. We have 2 teen boys so nothing is wasted.

3. It fits our dining style 1 CS and 1 TS per day.

We often took back apps and/or desserts to our room. The only time we did not was when the 14 yr old and I would share. We did so often because I was 5 months pregnant on this July trip and did not eat alot. Honestly, I could eat and app and dessert and be more than full. However, my steak eating young men love to order beef every chance they get.

I did the ddp this year and I am doing it again next year (both times free but I would pay for it). Yes I did eat all the food and as I was getting to the parks at about 9am and not leaving until they closed I feel that all the walking helped with that. With a lot of the snack options I brought the fruit pot at Pop Century and had it for breakfast.
