so if you woudn't mind telling me, what do vacations look like each year when you own 1000 or 800 points or similar??? I own 160 at BLT for now, and I'm already thinking I need (want really, not need) more points. I'm just wondering how great it is if you have alot of points. thanks

With the more points you have, the more fun you can have! :cool1:
Seriously, it would allow you to take more trips to the World or even longer ones. And it would give you more options when you do. The downside, is the MF's that you would have to pay on that many points. While we don't have nearly as many points as you are asking about, we do have enough that we are taking 3 trips this year, and have already booked a cruise for next year using points on the Disney Dream for our family. (Both contracts had previous years points available when we bought them.)

We have 545 points currently, and are trying to close on 174 points more. That will bring us up to 719 points. That is enough points for two 8 night trips to Disney in a 2 bedroom villa per year. We will be traveling in May and Sept each year. I would love to have more points, but we can't get away from work/school/soccer/dog for any more vacations. I think 1000 points would be perfect!

I am with the "small" owners club... we have 155 points at 2 resorts... 30 at BWV and 125 at BLT... I want (or shall I say need) more... I would like more at BWV, more at BLT or some at AKL... everytime we take people with us they always want AKL...

Sometimes it very tough to change reservations for a ngiht with so few points... im hoping to be in the 200 club by the end of this year, and if the webcast is really good, maybe a 50 point add on by the month! :cool1:

The more points you have, the more you pay in dues, and the more vacation time you need. :teeth:

At this point, we have more points than time off of from work, especially since we don't spend all of our vacation time at WDW (gasp)!

I am also in the too many points to use group. Just remember that DVC is for 50 years. Our kids are now out of the house, none of them really like WDW (too many vacations there have burned all 3 of them out) and they have no desire to use any of our points on a regular basis. So my husband and I are stuck paying the dues every year and trying to figure out how to use the points when we really only want to vacation at WDW for one week a year. I currently have enough to do something stupid like 9 weeks in a one bedroom. Nine weeks, who needs that?

When I was in the frenzy of my addonitis years, I never thought I'd get tired of vacationing at WDW with the family but things change. Now my husband and I like to travel elsewhere but are more or less stuck doing Disney more than we want because we're paying the dues on those points.

WE ORIGINALLY HAD 171POINTS in 1998 AT THAT TIME WE HAD ENOUGH WITH BOTH OF US WORKING, OUR DUES WERE 600 DOLLARS A YEAR. WE ADDED 110 POINTS IN EARLY 2000 . BRINGING OUR TOTAL TO 281. NOW I RETIRED WHEN I WAS 50 FIVE YEARS AGO MY DW STILL WORKS AND SINCE IM A DISNEY FILE WE HAVE DONE 4 MEMBER CRUISES WE ADDED 250 MORE POINTS 2 YEARS AGO ON THE CRUISE AND THEY GAVE US A FREE MEMBER CRUISE WITH BALCONY SO OUR TOTAL IS 531 POINTS A YEAR. OUR DUES ARE ALMOST 3000 A YEAR DEPENDING ON THE DOLLAR. WE ARE CANADIAN BUT ID GLADLY PAY THOSE DUES FOR WHAT WE GET. BUT REMEMBER AT 1000 POINTS A YEAR YOUR DUES ARE GOING TO BE VERY HIGH FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL YOU SELL YOUR TIMESHARE. WITH GOOD MANAGEMENT LIKE USING POINTS FOR SUN THRU THU AND PAYING CASH FOR FRI AND SAT AND GOinG AT OFFTIMES YOU CAN STRETCH YOUR TIME.
WE LIKE OKW ITS THE CHEAPEST AND PERFECT FOR DW AND I. SOMETIMES WE STAY AT AKL OR VERO BEACH. IF WE STAY AT BLT WE WOULD STAY IN THE LAKE VIEW NOT PAY THE EXTRA JUST TO GET VIEW OF CASTLE. YOU CAN GO UP TO THE TOP OF BLT TO SEE THAT OR STAND INFRONT OF CASTLE. YOU CAN USE A LOT OF POINTS JUST TO SEE CASTLE FROM YOUR ROOM THAT YOUR ONLY THERE FOR THE EVENING TO BASICALLY SLEEP.
IM A DISNEYFILE AND LOVE TO LOOK AT THE CASTLE ETC BUT YOU CAN LOOK AT THE CASTLE MORE DAYS AND CLOSER IF YOU PLAN YOUR WHERE YOU USE YOUR POINTS.

IMO, a larger number of points does not have to translate to more vacation time but it could. One thing you can do with more points is to increase your chances of getting what you need. Say you're not sure which week you'll need or how many or going. You can then reserve multiple units or times (or both) then cancel what you don't need at a later date.

:thumbsup2 Just read any of the posts or trip reports by DVC MIke. I think he has 1,250 points--or close to that. There are a couple of threads where I have read people taking a month or more a DVC at a time becasue they have that many points. I think from what I have read, DVC Mike spends a week at WDW about every 3-4 months and owns a 6 resorts. He uses each resort for their specific "perks" at specific times of year. Mrs. Mike is very lucky...:rotfl: But my DH loves me for my points ( OK our points), too.

We own 540 points and generally go twice a year 6 nights in 2BRs. We have a boy and girl 6 years apart in age so when we first bought in 2007 we wanted to be able to get a 2 BR eventually so they would have their own beds.

So far we have bought family with us on 1 trip requiring a 2BR and have taken 2 -1BR trips.

We love Disney and we have a 2 year old so we know we will be going for a long time.

we also have a trip planned in AUgust taking more family and a trip in January 2011 (I discovered this is a great time to go due to crowds) in a 2BR with just us and the kids LOL.

DH and I have already discussed adding 25-30 points at each of our home resorts.

It is all what you can do. MY dh is also retiring in 4 years from the NYPD and we are moving to a cheaper place to live so we see more disney trips in our future. Even some adult only trips in our future.

I'm happy and feel fortunate to have the points I have right now. Maybe some more in the future. Extended family always seems to want to come along so hopefully someone else will buy some points too and then we can all have fun.

We have 500 pts and like being able to bring extended family along. We are also able to stay anywhere we want. We've been very lucky to have a good choice at 7 months out.

Since our kids are in college, we don't need the 2bd now but hopefully there will be grandchildren some day to fill up the bedrooms again.

I'm not sure how many points we have, but it's just over 1000. We are going to spend 25 nights this summer (in 1 & 2 brs). We just bought 400 pts at GCV with the intent of selling our AKV 100 pts and BWV 170 pts because of their high MFs. I think we are spending about 1100 pts this summer :scared1: BTW, I'm a teacher so I have the vacation time :goodvibes

We have 320 points. Our logic was one week in a two bedroom at the second highest season because that is when spring break usually falls. we have owned for almost two years now bought at the end of spring break 08 and used 10 days and a night at Vero Beach last year. This year we are only staying 3 nights and then crusing. Next year will be a ten night stay. We love the flexibility and would love more time but this works well for us now. A two bedroom is decadent for a family of four but last year my mom joined us for a week and this year an uncle will join us for two nights.

When we bought we didn't do it to save money we did to have a nicer more relaxed holiday and so far it has worked for us.

When the kids are grown and not interested we can stay longer in a one bedroom and golf and do other grown up activities.

I started with 150 which was the minimum....added on 3 times. I now have 350 which I think is perfect. We do HHI almost every summer, Disney about every 12-15 months.

Not sure if I will add on anymore......seems right for what we do.
