DH and I had a great trip
The scenery was breathtaking, people freindly and weather great! We took a flightseeing trip around Mt McKinley, and although we couldn't land on a glacier as planned due to clouds around the landing site, we had a great view of the mountain. We hiked on a glacier ( Matanuska glacier). We took an 11 hour shuttle tour into Denali NP. On this tour we saw 15 grizzly bears (several with cubs) 13 dall sheep, 16 caribou, including one that ran onto the road ahead of us to run off a group of dall sheep he didn't like
. We also saw several moose moms with young. Mt McKinley was "out" this day too.
We took an all day cruise tour from Seward and saw whales and puffins and sea lions and sea otters. I got to pet tons of cute sled dogs ( I want a huskie now
)
Ate LOTS of Salmon and halibut and deserts with local berries. At night it didn't get dark until after midnight and the sun was up by 5am. It took me awhile to get used to that!
There are two seasons in Alaska, winter and road construction.
I'm glad we stopped at Walmart in Anchorage before we hit the road to buy bottled water and snack food, we ended up eating lunch a few times while waiting at construction sites.
We will definately be going back, next time we plan to go longer and at a slower pace to really "see" it all!
