I just registered to run my first 5K. The Happy Haunt 5K that's the morning of the Tower of Terror 10-miler, (which I'm not running, but I did get a ticket to the after party.) I've never run a 5K before, but I have a few months to train. And I do run, or at least walk, almost every day. I can do 3.5 miles in 30 minutes on a treadmill, and that's at a slow pace, so I'm not worried about the time or distance. I guess I'm just questioning myself since I've never done a 5K before, and now I am nervous-excited.

You'll be fine. You already run a faster 5k than the majority of the people at Disney 5ks. My 40ish minute 5k is generally mid-pack. I've found for the 5ks even the faster runners take it slow since it's really they are running the bigger race. Be sure to stop for pictures! I still regret not stopping for the hyenas from the Lion King during the Halloween 5k last year. :( I was so worried about not finishing, and once I crossed the finish line and saw the number of people me and how much time I had, I was kicking myself!

I'll definatly be stopping for pics for stuff, especially characters I haven't seen before. I'm sure my Disney time will be much slower then my regular time.

I just ran 3.1 to see what my time was and I did it in 24 minutes and 26 seconds. That was on a flat surface in my AC apartment though. I'm sure running over sand and whatever else will affect that time.

But I'm doing this run for fun, and not for a good time, I think I just need to keep that in mind and I will have a lot less anxiety.

Good luck with the run. I'm sure you will do fine.

My 25yo dd wants us to sign up for this. She runs 5Ks throughtout the year but I have never done one. I am totally on the fence about it. I don't run but do cardio work outs 6 days a week. I know I can't run the 5K but was hoping to do a "fast" walk. Will there be people that walk the 5K or are they strictly runners? I'm also concerned that this will be after visiting the parks for 6 days. I'm just not sure my 50-year-old body can hold up. :rotfl:

Every 5K, Disney or otherwise will have people of all skill levels, runners, walkers, elderly, kids. If you can walk the parks for 6 days you can walk 3.11 miles!

OP, you already can run further than a 5K. What is insane about this? You just ran it at 8 min/mile which is a pretty decent time.

Maybe it's just more impulsive then insane. I've been reading a lot about Run Disney lately, and keep on thinking it's something I'd be interested in doing, like the Princess Half or the Wine and Dine. But it never occurred to me to look and see if there was a 5K to go along with the Tower of Terror 10-miler until this morning, and then I just booked it before I could talk myself out of it.

I did my 1st 5k at Disney and LOVED it. When flying home my mil and I noticed all the princess medals and turned to eachother and both said I want one of those so this year I ran my 1st half marathon at Disney. You are able to complete any length. I did my half in 4hours. I will be running Disney's wine and dine for my birthday (11-10) and will run my fist marathon at Disney! (26.2 mile when I'm 26.2 years old) Disney runs are the BEST!!! It doesn't feel like a half marathon!
