I felt like saying another word, but abyss works.

Ok, I decide to go back to school after 14 years.

I decide to start slow, and take a course entitled "Math Reasoning for Elementary Teachers".

The course description states up to 8th grade math... to teach it to others without feeling uncomfortable...

Boy, was I wrong! Its horrible. Somehow, there is a difference between the course description, and what she is teaching..

So far I've figured out that we are doing algebra II/trigonometry...

(Not good for a math challenged student!)

I could use bucket loads of pixie dust!!!!

Algebra II and trig really aren't that difficult as long as you have your basic math down correctly. I loved trig. Wait and see, try not to be so afraid--it will hinder your success.

I know what I'm talking about, I used to be terrifed of any kind of math. I finally got over the fear when I started at MSU and took the math classes one at a time. Once I realized I actually had a brain and got over my terror, I made a's from Algebra to 2 terms of calculus.

I kind of hated calculus, though :(

Good luck ith this :)

Well, I do have to say yesterday was a better class... it actually made sense.

The professors intention is to not make us scared of math, and we actually talked at length when math phobias start.

I just want a decent enough grade to pass! Thanks for the encoragement!

CindyB, I'd be glad to help. I'm a math major and a math teacher and do a lot of tutoring. Math on the disboards does get kind of confusing though, everyone throws their two cents in and without being able to use exponents and such properly, I think you might end off in a worse position!!!

Anyway, you can always PM me if you're really stuck.

Well damo, it will definetely keep that in mind.. just that first few classes... with sets, subsets, set builder notation, Universal numbers, N= natural numbers.., intersection/unions with Venn Diagrams... just made me go through a loop!

Set Builder notation still does give me trouble...

Remember how your teachers always said to do your homework? That's because math needs a lot of repetition. The more you do, the easier it is but of course because you are an adult you don't have a lot of time to do homework. :)

Yes, I know... its just a rough go after a LONG break. (13 years too long!)

I know I passed college statistics many years ago, so I know that I can do this!

Sending loads of PD your way. I'd hate to know I had to take any kind of math class, especially one with Trig.!!! Good luck.
