I don't know whether to put this here on the Community Board, mods feel free to move this.

I am not going to make it to WDW this summer. The last time I used my safary club card was in July 06. You have to use it a least once a year or you lose it. I thought I'd be fine since I go to Joe's Crab Shack many times up here in Pittsburgh but I went with my girls last night and they told me that they are no longer with Landry's restaurants. I looked at the website and it's true.

I was told I could use it at the Grand Concouse. I've never been there though. It looks stuffy. It's the ONLY Landry's Restaurant in Pittsburgh (what does Landry's have against the "burgh" anyway???) Can anyone from the Pittsburgh area tell me what it's like?

Can I call the Rainforest Cafe in DTD and order something from the giftshop, just to keep my card in good standing? Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

I had forgotten about the 'use at least once a year' rule. No wonder we never received DH anniversary membership card in the mail. We lost DH card at one point so I purchased a new one. Remember that it only costs $15 to get a new one, and you can get a new one at the resturant. Plus you'll receive a new memebrship $10 voucher in the mail.

Thanks. The ten dollar voucher would expire before I could get back to Rainforest Cafe though. I wish there was a RC within a reasonable driving distance from here. Maybe a road trip is in order this year. :drive:

I had the same issue, so called and asked. I was told that the card is always good......if you don't go once a year, you don't get the "extras" until you use it again.

You might want to call and confirm that, though, but that's what I was told.

What are the extras? I will still get to the front of the waiting list and 10% four entrees or a free appitizer, right?

don't you receive a $5 birthday certificate yearly? or is that only when you originally sign up? (or am i confusing this with charlie browns steakhouse...)

Yes you get a $5 birthday coupon and a $5 anniversary coupon. I jsut got mine in the mail.

When do the birthday and anniversary coupons expire? If I knew we always took trips in the fall, would I want to make my birthday and anniversary during those months? :)

The coupons have the expiration date printed on them. They last for only a few months, and we never seem to get to use them.

How long do they send them before the expiration date? 30 days? Does the $10 new member gift card also have an expiration date? Thanks!

Sorry, yes, the "extras" are the gift certificates that are sent in the mail.

With the card itself, you still get front of the line and the free appetizer.

I was also told that if you haven't used your card in over a year, and then you do sue it, it reactivates getting the gift certificates

I've had a card, probably over 10 years. I have gone over a year without using it and it never expired. :confused3

I don't know anything about the card, but there is a Rainforest Cafe in Towson, MD that is only about 2 hrs from Pittsburgh. It's in a big mall...you could make a day of it. :)

You know, I noticed Towson on the Rainforest Cafe website. I've never been there and had no idea how far away from home it really was. I'm seriously tempted to make a day of it! Anything else interesting in the area???

Does this card have to be purchased at the restaurant? If RC is one of the places I really want to eat in DTD, would it be worth it for me to drive a ways to get one before my trip?

Do you have to make ressies at the DTD location, or is it first come first served on a walk in basis?

The Rainforest Cafe is in Towson Town Center, which is a pretty nice mall. It has Nordstroms as one of its anchors, and lots of good retail like Gymboree, Janie and Jack, Baby Gap, etc.

Towson is probably about 20 minutes from the Maryland Zoo of Baltimore, which is fun. They have polar bears, a good assortment of African animals, and a nice children's zoo. (I'm a member.)

Towson is also only about 30 minutes from the Inner Harbor, which has the National Aquarium (get tickets in advance, as tickets are limited. I'm a member and we get a special line, but I've seen huge regular admission lines on weekends), the Maryland Science Center (nice dino exhibit and a pretty cool kids' room--I'm a member here too, and this is my dd's favorite!), and Port Discovery. There are also lots of restaurants down there, but if you are eating at Rainforest Cafe in Towson, you probably don't care! (If you make it a two meal day, though, they have Phillips' Seafood (MD institution--not my thing, but people love it), Hard Rock Cafe, ESPN Zone, Cheesecake Factory, Legal Seafoods, California Pizza Kitchen, and many other restaurants.)

Towson is about 4 hours from Pittsburgh. I think that it's roughly 250 miles, and there's usually some traffic with construction of some sort between Towson and Pittsburgh.

It takes a couple of hours to get to Breezewood, PA which is roughly half-way between Towson and Pittsburgh, plus factor in time for turnpike construction between Breezewood and the Monroeville Turnpike exit in Pittsburgh.

There used to be a Disney Store at Towson Town Center, but it closed.

I just called Wen. to get a new card I lost mine, and I have not used my in over a year but the girl said coupons don't expire so keep those coupons and my card was fine.. It cost me 5.50 to replace. I hope this is ok to post but the Landry phone number is 1-800-552-6379 and the safari club is ext 5235. :goodvibes
