We decided tonight to get married in Disney October 2009 and have an at-home reception. We've been looking at venues all over Mass and the prices are not worth it. I can't get a wedding together that satisfies everyone's needs (handicapped, distance, driving, etc) for a remotely decent price. The lowest priced venue I found was $12k and it only included the ceremony, venue, police officer (we had to have one because the town is dry), and food. No cake, invitations, decorations, alcohol, centerpieces, etc....we were getting so stressed out with the cost because everything we found had to be paid in cash, we're paying for everything by ourselves, and we both have SO much debt between credit cards and student loans. We both felt like we didn't want to go through with it. I called my mom and ended up having a mini breakdown. I went to visit a reception site this week and when I saw how big the room was and how I'd have to walk down the aisle in front of everyone and dance with everyone I just got a sinking feeling. I'm not good at being the center of attention and I get so nervous in front of people that I trip up words and get really clumsy. I was starting to dread my wedding day and he was too. My mom told me to follow my heart and started crying on the phone. She said Disney is what we wanted from the start and if we feel like it's right then do it and they will be there for us no matter what. I was so worried because my parents have no money and I don't want to strain them financially...that was the whole reason we scratched the idea of a Disney wedding. They told me not to worry about it, that they can save the $10/week it will take. I'm so happy. It's been a few hours and we already have 18 people definitely coming! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted my shoulders and I definitely feel like it's the right thing to do. I know some feelings will be hurt beause we are trying to keep it to just immediate family and one best friend each. We are going to tell people this is what the at-home reception is for, and that everyone is invited to that. I feel so at ease. I can't wait to start planning!

Missy Mouse, it sounds like you have a plan. Congratulations! Your last two sentences really sum it up. Plus, the sentence about following your heart really seals the deal. No one can argue with that. ;)

Have fun planning!

Congrats!!! You must be so excited! Let us know if we can help answer any questions for you.

Congratulations!!!!! :cheer2: DF and I went through the same situation...we were planning at at-home wedding with everyone there and we were both very unhappy and nervous about being on display in front of everyone. Deciding on Disney was the best decision we have made with our wedding planning and I hope you feel the same way too! It's all about you and DF and your special day, and everyone else will just have to understand. Have fun planning!

I'm another October 09'er having an at-home reception :thumbsup2

We're in the UK, so we only have a few coming over to Florida for an Escape wedding and then we're having a reception at home after we get back.

It's great, you get to wear the dress twice! (In fact, we're having an MK photoshoot on a seperate day, so does that technically meake it 3 times??;))

Good luck with the planning!

::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo Congratulations! You definitely won't regret your decision. Having a Disney wedding was the best thing ever! Our guests had a wonderful time and we didn't have the stress of having to entertain 250 people that day. It was wonderful to have such an important day which included our closest family and friends. Happy planning!

I'm glad you are happy, weddings shouldn't be stressful they should be magical! Have fun planning.

Congrats!! I was going through the same thing you did! We were planning a local wedding here in Pittsburgh, and the cost was adding up sooo quickly and we were visiting different reception places and the thought of being the center of attention like that made me sick to think about! I was beginning to dread the day, so finally I talked my DF into a Disney wedding, and now we're both excited!! We're also only have very close family and very very very close friends. Probably 40 people max... it will be perfect! Your's will be too! :)
