I'm going on Accutane...

Has anybody used this acne pill before?
How bad was it?
Did you have any side-effects?

Ive tried everything for the past 3 1/2 years on acne medicines from my dermatologist... he wouldn't put me on Accutane earlier and there was nothing else to try just recently because I had used everything and NOTHING was working. I did it all, i wanted and still want clear skin, there was the occasional day where i would forget to do it, but that was once in a blue moon. My skin just didn't clear up and recently has gotten pretty bad. So...my mom decided to take me to a dermatologist that has been highly recommended in my town and she said that I should definately go on Accutane, there is nothing else to try, and when the 5 month period is over there is an 80% chance that I will have clear skin for life.

I really want to do it, but I am kind of scared at the same time. I am fed up with all of the acne medicines and DEFINATELY don't want to do that for however long i continue to have acne just for it to show no result, but at the same time I am a bit frightened of the side-effects it will have. This Dermatologist told me not to worry because most of the side effects mirror the side effects of retina which i was on for a very long time... Yet the last dermatologist told me to go look online at all of the suicides that have come from Accutane! I really don't think this pill could possibly change my persanality or my work ethic...but please please please tell me... i have a month to make up my mind before i offically go on it..

I am also deathly afraid of needles and i have to get blood drawn once a month for the next 5 months...

I just keep thinking clear skin is going to be completely worth it, but at the same time I wonder.

My brother has used it.
It worked (came back because he didn't look after his skin)
But he had to change his diet, which meant for junk meant no coke, twizzlers, and disgusting baby cookies (well I like them..)

I had wanted to go on it until I was told I would have to take BC with it (someting in accutane could mess up a baby if you ever have one), and I wasn't up for that back then. Now, yes, I'm on BC, but if I like the option of not having to take BC if I don't want to. I don't want to be pressured into it.

I have the same problem with acne except my mom says I don't need a dermatologist. I just don't scrub my face enough, [I do alot as a matter of fact] And I've been eating healthier. It's gotton way better than it was before but it's still not as clear as I want it to be. I've tried alot of acne medicines and none of them seem to work to me. Although my mom disagrees. I'm still using this one on my face every night and right now it's just like put on wash off stuff. Not any pills or anything.
I couldn't exactly help you because I've never even heard of this pill.
But I'll probably be asking my mom later if my skin doesn't clear up to go to a dermatologist. On the needle thing I wouldn't mind it but I'm not scared of needles.

If you go to a Dermatologist most likely they will put you on lots and lots of other things before they even consider Accutane unless you have horrible Acne. I don't have horrible acne by any means compared to some people, don't get me wrong its bad but not as bad as it could be, you know? There have been times when my face has been almost clear but that never lasts long... anyways.. they are putting me on this because ive been trying acne medicines for sooooo long now, but I hope your mom lets you go to a dermatologist. =]

I do not know. That is what my brother had to do, derm's orders. It will probably be different for you. Your dermatoligist will explain everything before giving you the pills.

Yea. I know what you mean. My isn't nearly as bad as some peoples but I still feel horrible when I look in the mirror and see acne everywhere. Hoping this stuff I'm using will start kicking in after awhile. Something is bound to work at some point.

Mine is getting better. But if I wasn't using my Clindoxyl Gel at night (I swear by this stuff, last summer my face was completely blemish free. My friend just started using it too, I hope it works for her). And I use a kind of BC that's used mostly for clearing up acne.
It's getting amazingly better.

im on Accutane right now! i have been on it for 3 days and i have had no side-effects yet. everything is perfectly normal.

i have also tried everything i could for the past 2 years, and nothing has seemed to work.

i havent seen anything change on my face yet, but ive only been on it for 3 days, so i wont tell for a while.
