The phone rang right on schedule. DD 9, who was supposed to answer it this morning, covered her ears! I got up and held the phone to her ear. There was Mickey telling us to get up and at em! It was loud enough so that anyone who was somewhat awake in the room could hear it.
We had gotten some fruit, juice and bagels, during our grocery stop on the way to the GF, to have for breakfast this morning. We needed to hustle since we had much to do before we could leave for the Magic Kingdom. We got everyone up, slathered in sunscreen (SPF 50!), dressed and fed. We finished packing up and went to the front desk to get our new Key to the world cards (# 2) since our pkg began this day and our park tix would be on those cards. I was still wondering which level of concierge service we would have. I asked the cm at the front desk if she knew which room wed have and she said there was a room number in the computer but she couldnt tell me because it might change. She did say that when we came back this afternoon, we should go over to the gold elevators and use our card to go to the concierge desk on the third floor! Yipppeeee! We were in RPC. Now if we could only get a castle view. That would be too perfect. (and not likely)
We had Bell Services store our luggage while we were at the park. (another tip)
The Character Caravan was in the lobby while we were getting our new KTTW cards. Our 2 yr old had a great time with Goofy. She hugged him at least two times! One time he acted like she had knocked him over and he fell down on the floor.
We hopped on the monorail and headed to the Magic Kingdom! We waited until exactly 9am for them to open the gates to let us in. We had rented a double stroller while we waited so we just had to pick it up once we were through the turnstiles. We didnt make a mad dash to get anywhere. We just quickly strolled up Main Street toward the castle. The kids were so excited to be in the MK! I suggested we head to Fantasyland and do some of the more popular rides there first. (I had had no luck getting anyone to help me create a plan of attack for the park so we didnt really have one.) I knew from reading these boards and The Unofficial Guide which rides we could put off and which we should try to hit early.
As we walked into Fantasyland, we saw the Teacups just ending and no one in line. We walked on and took two cups. We were the ONLY people on the ride. My dh mentioned after, that it was pretty cool to be at MK and be the only ones on a ride. We walked right over to Pooh and pretty much walked right on. My 2 yr old didnt like it because it was dark but she did like the Tigger bouncing part! (enough to mention it at least 2 weeks later) From there we went to Peter Pans Flight. (another dark ride) Not only did the 2 yr old not like this ride, but the 9 yr old didnt really care for it either. Im afraid the 2 yr old wont have many fond memories of the MK. ;-) Its not a good start so far. SO, off we go to the Haunted Mansion!!! :-D We asked the cm outside how scary he thought it was. His explanation is that its Scooby Doo scary. I KNOW that the 2yr old wont like this one so she and I wait outside. The others all walked right in .and they came out sniffling and saying it was terrible, they HATED it! My dh was just laughing. One DD said it wasnt like watching Scooby Doo scary, it was like being IN Scooby Doo scary.
From there we walked over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I was expecting a fairly big line since it was getting on toward 10:30am. We had planned on using the Baby Swap for this ride, but the cm told us that they just give the swapping parent a fast past. I took the middle two kids first since they told us that there were three seats across. I was a bit nervous about going on. I love rides, but I was afraid this might be more than I could handle. I havent been on many roller coasters. Well, we walked and walked and walked right on the ride. Not even one min of waiting! I couldnt believe it! Here goes nothing! I loved it! I worried a bit about my dd who is prone to motion sickness, but by my keeping a positive attitude, I think it made her enjoy the ride too. I was impressed by how fast and how long the ride actually is. As soon as we got off, my dh took the 3 older kids and went on. I was going to take the kids on again and we headed for the line that was now coming down the winding path!! I was amazed that a line could fill up that quickly! My dh and kids had just walked on the ride and now the line was probably 20 -30 mins long!
From there we went over to the Magic Carpets of Alladin so my 2 yr old could go on something. We all enjoyed the slow ride, for her sake. The kids loved the jewels in the walkway. They kept thinking they were going to be able to pick one up. HA!
Next we went to Pirates of the Carribean. My 2 yr old hid her face the whole time we were in there. Even in line! I was actually hoping she would fall asleep, but she didnt. (More bad memories of MK for her.) :-O
By then it was about 11am and I thought it would be best if we headed over to Crystal Palace to check in for our 11:30am PS. I was a bit nervous that they wouldnt have our PS because of our experience at Ohanas last night where the concierge apparently didnt make our PS. Besides that, I didnt have any confirmation numbers since we hadnt actually checked into our room yet and gotten that info from the concierge. I worried about nothing. They had everything just right when I checked in. They didnt start calling names until about 11:40am. We didnt have to wait too long for our name to be called.
We were seated at a table all the way around in a corner. It was nice to have a little space all to ourselves. Our server was pleasant to us, but not the Disney pleasant that one expects. We saw her roll her eyes when someone else asked for something. Piglet came to see us first. He stayed only long enough to let us take a picture with him and then he was on to the next table. Tigger was next. He was a little funnier. As the kids posed for a picture with him, he made them sway back and forth and around. Then he was gone. Pooh was next and I must say, he was the best of all the characters there! I had put my VERY shy dd 9 on the backside of the table so she could see the characters but she was not readily available to them. Pooh was the only character that made a point to getting by me to get to her! I was impressed. (and worried about how she might react, but she was fine) Also, when Pooh first got to our table he took his hand and slowly swirled it around dd 6s hair, messing it up and making it go over her face! It was very cute. She was giggling! Quite a bit later, Eyeore made his appearance. We got a very cute picture of dd2 looking up at him in adoration. Shes the only one of my kids who really likes the characters. (especially at this age none of the others would have gotten close to any character at age 2)
The food was mediocre. It certainly wasnt worth the $65 it cost us for lunch before tip! Of course you are also paying for the character interaction, which was not enough in my opinion. We were all very full when we left, just not completely satisfied. I guess next time I would chose 1900 Park Fare. We saw the characters there interacting with the guests as wed walk through the lobby of the GF. Seemed like better service. Live and learn.
DH wanted to go to Tomorrowland so thats where we went next! It was the first time he had offered his opinion on any part of this trip so I was anxious to do what he wanted to do! We rode the TTA around twice without getting off. It was nice to get an overview of this area before we decided which ride to go on. DH was disappointed when he found out the Speedway was on a track. I guess he thought they were just go-carts that you could drive. At least it saved us having to wait in that line.
Next, we decided to go on Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin. The regular line was only about a 20 min wait. Had we known how much we all would like it, we would have gotten Fast Passes to go again. As it turned out, when we exited the ride, the line was much shorter so we jumped right back in line. FUN! (the 2 yr old slept through both of these rides so she didnt have to be traumatized by yet another dark ride)
DH wanted to try the Astro Orbiter. I decided Id sit this one out with the 2 yr old. I was getting hot and tired. As the rest of the family was standing in line to board the elevator up, all of a sudden I heard the CM yelling! Then I realized he was yelling at my very shy dd 9. Apparently he had asked her if she was ds11s sister. When she didnt answer he asked her her name. One of my kids must have told him. Now he kept yelling her name! HI SHANNON! ARE YOU HAVING FUN, SHANNON? And on and on until it was time to board the elevator. Then he yelled, BYE SHANNON! I dont know if she liked it or not, but it was funny and I was glad that one of my kids was getting some extra attention.
We decided to go back to the GF to take a break and see if our room was ready. Looking back, I think we should have headed to Splash Mountain instead, since we never did get there. (one of our biggest regrets) I was just so hot and so tired. I obviously had not had enough fluids even though I had intended on staying ahead of the dehydration. (I had read the boards, I knew the routine! But I had failed myself.) Of course my plan was to go back to the hotel soon after lunch, but I didnt want to stop DHs momentum!
On the advice of our first Bell Hop, we took the resort launch back to the GF. It worked out GREAT!!! The boat was loading just as we arrived. We walked right on and there was only one other family on board. It was like having our own private boat to take us where we wanted to go! The first stop was the GF, as the Bell Hop had said, so we were there in a flash! A nice breeze cooled us on the way over. Perfect, and truly the way to travel from MK to GF!
We went up to the 3rd floor of the GF as we had been told to do that morning. We were told that our room had not been cleaned yet. They had said the room number was 4405. I was pretty sure from reading these boards that THAT was a castle view! They started looking around for another room that was ready but I wanted that room. DH didnt want to wait. He had no idea why I had told them we could just wait for it to be cleaned. The concierge told me that they could get us a room in the same location just down the hall a bit. They put us in 4408. It was a CASTLE VIEW! It was unbelievable! Dreams do come true at WDW!!! A little later in the afternoon I sat on the balcony with the kids gazing at the castle and said, It doesnt get any better than this! (WDW, GF, RPC, Castle View)
We went down to the lounge for afternoon tea. It was ok. We tried what I think was a trifle. The kids had cookies and brownies. I should have tried the warm scones, but I just wasnt up to it right then. We never did get back for any other afternoon tea so I missed my opportunity. Oh well. After snacks, we just relaxed and rested in the room until it was time to head to dinner.
Here comes one of my biggest mistakes of the trip! Disaster in the making! WARNING, WARNING! Stupid tourist trying to do too much in one day! WARNING, WARNING! Are you ready, here it comes! I had made a PS at Rose & Crown Pub for 7:20pm. I had requested patio seating and of course was told to tell them when I got to the podium and also tell them that I was willing to wait for a table on the patio. No Guarantees! Fine. We took the monorail over to Epcot. Nice ride, although it seemed that some were getting tired. (heed the warning signs and scrap the plans NOW!) Stupid tourist goes ahead with plans but we have PLANS! DH would have rather of scraped the plans and wandered around Future World, but I informed him that it was closing soon. Wed be back on Saturday. We walked to the United Kingdom area of the World Showcase and found the R & C Pub. I asked (very nicely) when I checked in at the podium if it would be possible to get a table on the patio for Illuminations if we waited a bit. The cm at the very crowded podium informed me, in no uncertain terms and in a rather loud voice preceded by a huff, that they couldnt have people waiting around for a table on the patio. I then asked if we could move to the patio following dinner and again was informed that we could go in their little garden area if there was space, but we couldnt go on the patio where people were eating. (all this in a rather snippy voice) She then assigned us an inside table immediately. WARNING, WARNING
We were seated and we asked for 2 booster seats. The hostess couldnt find us even one booster seat and so she brought one high chair. We made do. She also brought crayons for the kids. We sat the kids colored we sat the other tables ordered or were served we sat the kids got restless we sat each child got in trouble one at a time we sat the other tables were served dinner or dessert we sat Im talking not even a drink order taken NOTHING!!!! You cant tell me that the other servers dont see us sitting there with 4, now unruly, children. I swear we sat there at LEAST 25 mins! Finally, my DH got up to find out what was going on. Im not sure where he went, but he said he talked to a guy who said hed look into it and if he couldnt find anyone, hed serve us himself. About 5 mins later, that same guy came to take our orders. (Do you suppose it was because wed asked to sit on the patio? Hmmmmmm) Soon after this guy took our orders he came out with rolls and two different appetizers that were on the house! (A very nice gesture and saving grace) One was a cheese and fruit plate and the other was some sort of mushroom dish with puff pastry. We all nibbled on that until our dinner arrived, in a timely manner I might add. I wish I had known the size of these portions! We certainly wouldnt have ordered as much as we did. The kids could have shared a kids meal and I could only eat about ½ of my meal! There was no sense in taking anything with us since we had no place to keep it and no way to warm it up later. As soon as we finished eating the kids began to get into trouble again. We made a hasty exit out of there. We roamed the WS looking for restrooms. We finally found them and then decided to try to find a good place to watch Illuminations. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!! WARNING, WARNING!!! As soon as the fireworks began my 2 yr old and 6 yr old began to cry. They hate fireworks. I knew last year they hadnt liked the 4th of July fireworks (they hadnt cried) but I figured this would be different and not so bad. WRONG! I suggested to DH that we begin to stroll toward the exit. Well, here he was pushing a stroller with our 6yr old crying hysterically inside. And Im carrying our 2 yr old who is also crying. We strolled, but so did many others. I hadnt realized how short this show was. The show was almost over by the time we reached the walkway to FW. We joined the crowds heading to the exit and took the monorail to GF. (switching at TTC) How I wished we had eaten at the GF and just enjoyed the pools. WARNING, WARNING!!! (heed all warning signs I thought I was prepared since I had read everything on these boards I just wasnt as prepared to listen to myself and veer from my plans that much LISTEN! VEER!)
We got back to the GF around 9:45pm. We stopped off at the concierge lounge to have a little dessert before going back to our room. When we entered our room we could see fireworks in the sky very close to the castle. Im not really sure from where they were coming because MK wasnt scheduled to have fireworks that night. The two youngest began to get upset again due to the fireworks but with the slider to the balcony closed, they were fine. It was a nice ending to a great day, gone sour and back to great!
