I'm finally going to ask this question.

I think I'm the only one on these boards who doesn't know who Jimmy Buffet is/was and what a parrothead is/was.

Would someone explain if it's not too much trouble?

Jimmy Buffet is a singer/musician. He is still alive. He used to have a place in Key West but I don't think he does anymore. There is a great restuarant/bar in Key West where he used to play. It is called Margaritaville. There is one in Orlando over at Universal's City Walk as well. Basically, he is a 50 year old beach bum, kind of. He always seems to have on tropical shirts and clothes. When you listen to Jimmy Buffet you must drink margarita's, pina colada's, and beer. Not necessarily all at the same time. He has a huge following and his concerts are a blast. He is known for the songs, "Margaritaville", "Cheeseburger In Paradise", "Come Monday" and many others. A parrothead is to Jimmy Buffet what a "dead head" is to The Greatful Dead (assuming you know who that is). Parrothead's go to all of his concerts, or many of them.

Go get one of his CD's. "Songs You Know By Heart" is a great one. You probably will recognize more than one of these songs.

50 years old and tropical clothing. sounds like my kind of person. thanks staylor.

Pug, Pug!
I stepped on a pop top? Blew out my Flip Flop?!! Don't you remember that one? You must be very young! :~) But I didn't know the Parrothead thing either so I was glad you asked! :~) Jenn

Jimmy is from the Mississippi Gulf Coast (just like me). Cheeseburger in paridise is about a place on Cowant Road (not there anymore) in Gulfport, Ms. called Elsies (was a dive, but had good cheeseburgers). He is also a drop out of the University of Southern Mississippi (just like me). And a Buffet concert is the best, I still have the scar to prove it!!!!

Maybe you could go to Napster and download a few of his songs. Margaretaville, Escape (The Pina Colada Song), and come Monday are probably his most popular.

Escape (the pina colada song) was by Rupert Holmes, not Jimmy Buffett. Sorry to point out the honest mistake.

I guess I spent too much time listening to Casey Kasem's countdowns as a teen ;)

BTW, the fun-loving, easy-going Buffett was recently ejected from a Heat-Knicks basketball game for abusing the referees in a profanity-laced tirade.

Are you positive of this? I have the mp3 that I downloaded from Napster and it says Jimmy Buffet. I also just ran a search on Napster and I'm getting lots of hits for both Jimmy Buffet and Rupert Holmes. Maybe they both made the song, but the one that I know as a hit is the one on my computer labeled Jimmy Buffet. I think I'll download the other.

I think you are right. I just downloaded Rupert Holmes version and they are both the same. I'm sorry for saying that Jimmy Buffet recorded that song everyone. Thanks for correcting me too Chardo, I really did think Jimmy Buffet sang it.

Still, you won't find any Rupert Holmes restaurant chains, and you won't see Rupert Holmes with courtside seats at any basketball game. He buys his tickets like the rest of us. Unless he gets hooked up by VH1 and the producers of "Where are they Now?"

But I digress...

I am reading his biography of sorts right now, which is entitled "A Pirate Looks At 50". Actually he did graduate from Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, has been married a long time and has 3 kids with his wife. Owns a fleet of airplanes; seems to enjoy the ocean and flying equally. Pretty interesting book - lots I wouldn't have picked up just by his music. LOL!

I heard that JB left Key West and moved to Miami because he said Key West was no place to raise kids! BTW, Margaritaville is still in Key West, and we just had to have a cheeseburger there! LOL!! :D

Man, so I am the only USm Drop out. Ohh and i was wrong Elsies (Cheeseburger in paradise dive, is still there).

Pug I didn`t know who Jimmy Buffet was either.
