I'M ENGAGED! a.k.a. A Freak, a Closet Case and 2 Noobies...(FINISHED w/ PICTURES!!)

Congratulations on the engagement. Is there a Disney wedding in the future?? :bride: :groom:

FINALLY!!!!

Day Two - Thurs. Sept. 28th

To wake up in Disney is to wake up in heaven, even when you can't sleep and end up waking up at 8am. I'm always too exited to sleep that first day...I MUST SPEND AS MANY MOMENTS AWAKE IN DISNEY AS POSSIBLE!!! DBF and I were slightly tired from the drive the day before but it was nothing a cup of coffee couldn't fix. When I stay at AKL the first thing I like to do every morning (and even when I wake up in the middle of the night) is look for animals. Unfortunetly, the larger animals still hadn't shown their faces; I was still okay with the birds....for now.

We decided to skip breakfast that morning (I actually had some leftover Zebra Domes from a late night run to The Mara) and we all met up (in our room) with DF27 and DF30 to decide on a plan of action. We figured that since we had to meet up with DA and DB for dinner that afternoon that we'd stick around the Lodge and try out the pool and just wander around. I was pretty psyched since I really didn't get to do much exploring last year when we stayed but first on our list was a trip to Publix Liquors and Wal-Mart for alcohol and food. That was a fun little excursion but it was nothing to write home about. Once that was out of the way we arrived back at AKL at around 12:30pm and changed into bathing suits for exploration and swimming. I made myself a little celebratory "I'm-in-Disney" drink (mango rum and apple juice YUMMY!) then we were all on our way to The Mara for lunch.

At The Mara, I had a thought of maybe just sharing something with DBF since we we had ressies for 'Ohana (and 'Ohana should mean "FULL") so we shared the smoked turkey melt which was waaay more yummy then it looked.

After lunch, we headed for Ashura Rock for some animal viewing. We saw many, many animals none of which I can remember the names of (except maybe the reticulated giraffe) but they were all beautiful none the less. I think we walked every possible path we could walk. We met some nice CM's who taught us some interesting bits about the animals. We sat by the fire pit which is awesome even in the day time. Then it was off to find the hot tub and take a dip in the pool. When we got down to the pool all we saw was....

LOVE BUGS!!!!

Holy crap! I've never seen so many bugs in my life!! We headed to the pool bar for a drink and the bar was COVERED in bugs (which we thought was kind of funny...but also kind of gross, needless to say we passed on the drinks), so we headed to find a chair for our stuff...MORE BUGS!!! EVERYWHERE!!! Finally we took a chance and left our stuff in a less infested area and literally raced to jump in the pool. I know that the bugs are harmless but honestly, they give me the heeebie-jeebies. Since the pool was bug-free, we enjoyed the that for quite a while. I love the AKL pool...you can lay in the water and when you look up the Lodge is right there...it's just amazingly relaxing and it feels uber-secluded. If you've never stayed at AKL, you definetly should, these moments in the pool alone are worth it to me. After the pool we searched for the hot tub and found the smaller one to be empty. SWEET!! After about 30 minutes there we decided that if we didn't get out now they would likly find four sleeping people in their hot tub.

Did I mention DA has perfect timing! While on our way back to the room to shower and hang out before dinner, she called and said she was going to be leaving Downtown Disney in a few and heading towards the AKL. I didn't know exacly how much time I had but we sat around the room for a while having a few drinks and just talking. I looked out the window and still no animals on our savannah. GRR!! I was determined to find some animals somewhere close to our room. Sooooo, I slipped out of the room by myself and walked the ten feet to the end of the hallway to the stairs, walked out the door and saw this....

09-28_58.jpg

I ran back to the room....and franticly gathered everyone to come see what I found!! Woo-Hoo!! Finally some LARGE animals!!! We spent about 20 minutes hanging out there in the stairwell watching the animals...they were SO close!!

After returning to the room, DA called and said she just got off the bus. OH NO!! I haven't even showered yet!! I've been lolly-gagging around...and now ME, the one who's always getting everyone together, is the one who will probably make us late!! AHH! So I ran downstairs to get DA and DB. Getting back up the the fourth floor was slow going since they'd never seen the Lodge before. When we finally got up there I had DBF & DF27 entertain them while I showered and got ready (DF30 was taking a quick nap in the other room). As I was finishing up, (with 20 minutes to spare!!) I notice that DBF isn't even ready!!! Hello??? So, in a rush, I quickly ironed his clothing while he shaved and got dressed...at this point I figured we'd probably be late.

We walked the 10 miles to the parking lot (hehe) and piled in the car for the ride to the Polynesian. Again it was slow going thru the Poly lobby because no one (except DBF and I had been there), honestly I didn't mind, because I LOVE the Poly. We wound up being about 5 minutes early for our 8:40pm ADR!!! Luckily, the restaurant was almost empty. I checked us in and let them know that we had a cake special ordered.....but alas, THEY COULDN'T FIND IT!!! Now, I was freaking out inside!! They gave me a buzzer and told me as soon as they found it we'd be seated. It only took about 10 minutes for them to locate the cake (Whew!, heart attack averted) and we were seated.

Note to CM's: Do not put a group of slightly drunk people in their mid to late 20's who are celebrating some sort of event next to a HUGE Tiki butt, because this is what happens....

09-28_74.jpg

When seated the butt was literally right in my friends face, we found it pretty amuzing. We probably should have been more mature about it but we were on vacation!! Anyway, moving on from the butt-debacle (thank god there was no one seated around us..tee-hee)...last year when DBF and I ate there they had just changed the menu and the food was just "okay" but they must have refined it since then because everything was AMAZING!!! Everyone ate soooooo much. At 9pm Wishes started at the Magic Kingdom so DA, DF27 and I walked over to the window to watch for a few minutes before getting the urge to eat more. Before dessert even came out everyone was moaning and groaning and rubbing their bellies. Then they brought out the Bread Pudding a la Mode thing with the Banana Foster sauce.....MY FAVORITE!!! And even though we were all so full, the six of us managed to finish off two of them.

THEN...

THERE WAS CAKE!!!! Food just kept coming!!! And we kept right on eating. No matter how difficult it was WE WOULD EAT CAKE!!! I had ordered a 10" vanilla with fruit mousse filling and whipped cream frosting (picked by DB, DA's boyfriend). I was a little worried about how the "fruit mousse" would taste but it was fabulous!! I wish I could have eaten more of it but we did manage to kill off about 3/4 of it.

At this point I think we all felt like weeble-wobbles. They wobble but they don't fall down....sort of. :) After dinner we decided to explore some of the Poly. We went out to see the pool and we sat on the beach for a good 1/2 hour just relaxing and enjoying the scenery (I wasn't sure if we were all just lazy or incapable of moving at that point from all the food).

After waddling back to the car, we dropped off DA and DB at the Carribean Beach Resort before heading back to the Lodge. We were all pretty tired so we decided bed was a nice idea. We set a time to meet the next day and said our good nights.

DBF and I fell asleep almost immediately.

Tune in next time for Chef Mickey's Breakfast and Our first park...MGM!!

And I promise not to take forever.... :)

Unfortunetly, probably not (unless I win the lottery and can afford to fly down everyone I'd want to come). DBF later told me that he wanted to get engaged in Disney because he knew that it would be next to impossible to actually get married there.

Good enough for me!!

Day Three - Friday September 29th, 2006

Another exiting Disney Vacation first is your first day at the parks!! It may happen on your first day as you step off the plane or your fifth day at Disney but either way, it's always magical! This day was our First Official Park Day and DF27's first time in ANY Disney World park. We were eager to get there but first we had a 9:40am ADR at my personal favorite character breakfast, Chef Mickey's. Get your napkin ready!!!

We awoke at around 8:00 to shower, get ready, get coffee etc, etc. DBF and I thought it was a good idea to breif DF27 and especially DF30 to the goings on at Chef Mickey's, labeled by myself as the most "intense" and "in-your-face" character meal. I was assured that it would not be a problem and that there would be no violence against characters....Hehe, just kidding. But seriously, we really did really breif them though since I thought the whole experience would be a little too "Disney" for less-experienced vacationers to handle (especially ones that are close to 30 and definetly NOT children). We walked out the door at about 9:10am and arrived at the Contemporary Resort with a few minutes to spare so we took that time to press some pennies and leisurely walk up to the restaurant. When we got there the line was SOOOOOOOO long, I was not at all suprised and assured our party members that it really wouldn't take long to be seated. We got our buzzer and were escorted to a table in about 10 minutes.

Fortunetly, we weren't seated in the larger of the seating areas (I don't particularly care for that area much), we were seated against the left wall which is a nice little area that is VERY close to the food....my FAVORITE!!! Haha. I am constantly amazed by the amount of food they have here and everytime I come it is just slightly different. I'm a huge fan of cheesy potatoes and the breakfast pizza, which I ate in abundance. We had Mimosas and Bloody Mary's all around, swung our napkins and took many, many pictures all while getting uncomfortably full. So full in fact, that we didn't even have room to visit the pastry/donut table. :( When the check came I decided to break the news that this wasn't our only buffet today.....

I could have sworn I had 10 heads by the looks I was getting. I also broke the news that cancelling was not an option...it was at 4pm for the Fantasmic! Dining Package so ya'll BETTER NOT EAT ANYTHING!!

Hehe, Oops....They wanted to watch Lost....I had no choice. ;)

So with that in mind we left Chef Mickey's and meandered in the Contemporary gift shop a while while DBF picked out new sunglasses (he left his at home). By the time we left the Contemporary it was 11am. We decided to go back to the Lodge so DF27 and 30 could shower and so I could change my clothes (short shorts weren't working for me that day). At about 12:30pm we started the walk to the bus stop, waited about 10 minutes for a bus and off we went..........to MGM!!

Now, I must admit MGM is my least favorite park. ( Please don't throw things at me. :)) I know many people who really love it (in fact when I asked DF27 at the end, which park was her favorite she replied "MGM"), and I don't actually "hate" it, I just prefer other parks over MGM. So when we went there and DF27 was as amazed and impressed as she was, I couldn't help but think "You ain't seen nothing yet!", but I kept that to myself ;).

Before we even arrived at Disney I made up my mind to NOT (under ANY circumstances) miss the Lights! Motors! Action! show since we didn't have time for it last year, so I picked up a map and a times guide when we arrived (aprox. 1pm) and decided that we should head to the back of the park for the showing at 2pm and work our way to the front after it was over. We made a pit stop at the Backlot Express for some Sangria and got seated for the show.

I'm soooo glad we made the effort not to miss it because it was as awesome as everyone says it is. I really love movies and seeing how they do the effects and all that kind of stuff so this show was of particular interest to me. Since we were seated in an area with barely any people we were able to stretch out and really enjoy it, even waiting for the show was a nice experience.

After the show, we hit Star Tours, Rockin Roller Coaster and The Tower of Terror, respectively.

This is a little side note but just let me say one thing about ToT. I used to love this ride, so much so that I'd ride it many, many, many times in a single trip. I am also a lover of extreme rides and ToT is by far NOT the most jarring ride I've been on but ever since they changed the ToT to where it "bounces" between falls I GET SICK AS HELL riding this ride which is so dissapointing to me :(. I know that it's a novelty to have it be "unpredictable" but I'd rather the ride take two or three FULL "13 story" drops then abitrarily bounce about until my stomach turns. Anyway....moving on...

By the time we were done with ToT it was 3:45pm. Time to eat.....again. Ugh. I don't think anyone was that enthusiastic about eating right then but we went anyway. We checked in at Hollywood and Vine and recieved our buzzer, before we even sat down to wait, it went off. We waited not even 45 seconds!! Haha. I was still reeling from my ToT trip so I started slow with just one plate of food ;). Later on, after we had finished up, we all had wished that we could have been a little more hungary so that we could have enjoyed it more but oh well...stuff happens and we still ate a tremendous amount (and everything was delicious...well most things).

After dinner (at about 5:10pm) it was back to the lodge to recover from our two buffets until it was time for Fantasmic!. On our way out, there were soooooo many characters in the front common area so we decided to stop and take some pictures. We didn't want to wait on every line so I have many, many pictures of other peoples children with characters, but we did manage to stop and wait for Mulan, DF27 is Chinese after all. :)

We arrived back at the lodge with about an hour to kill before having to go back to Fantasmic!. We sat around and relaxed and headed back to MGM at 6:45pm. The show was amazing as usual. I was a little dissapointed by the absence of the river boat at the end but hey, nothing is perfect, it was still GREAT!! Fantasmic! was DF27's first Disney fireworks show and she cried some happy tears and we all had a good laugh at her expense :) (I cried a little too...but I'm a Stealth Crybaby and no one noticed...shhhhhh). At this point (actually before the show even started) DBF was getting a little cranky and gave me attitude thru the whole show. Grr. This happened alot unfortunetly however, after the events at the end of the trip I totally understood why he was so on edge. ;)

When Fantasmic! was over we browsed thru some shops and decided (actually, DF27 decided) on heading off to the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney to pick up a snack for later. So that's what we did! DF27 & 30 got 3 sandwiches (again), DBF got nothing because he thought we were crazy for getting more food and I got another Tuna Melt, unfortunetly I was too full to actually eat it so I saved it for the next day.

We finally got back to the Lodge at about 10-11-ish and made plans for the next day which were to SLEEP IN, and possibly visit a water park, but we'd leave that up to how we felt in the morning. Good nights were said and off to dreamland we went....

Tune in next time when water park plans get drowned and Food and Wine Mayhem begins!!!!

I wrote up two days today!! Here's the first...

Saturday September 30th, 2006

I'm running out of ways to start this...and I still have 6 days left!! Hehe. This day was one of the days that we were pretty much playing by ear(s) ;). DBF and I expressed a desire to visit Blizzard Beach (mainly for Summit Plummit). Everyone had decided the night before that we were in no real rush to get there so we'd set no wake up alarms and see what happened. Me being the person I am....woke up at 9am. Hardly late by my standards, but oh well.

I, in turn, woke up DBF. :)

We weren't sure if DF27 & DF30 were up and about yet so DBF and I had a nice walk down to The Mara for coffee (and cheesecake!). When we got back we watched some "Family Guy" on DVD and took some time to just sit on the balcony and watch the animals (and eat my Tuna Melt from the Earl, which was still delicious the day after...and cold).

We met up with DF27 & 30 around 12pm. After much talk it was decided that we wouldn't visit Blizzard Beach that day (for various reasons) but we would spend the time we had before getting ready for the Food and Wine Festival in the AKL pool. We made it to the pool around 1:30pm....there are alot of distractions on the way....like flamingos!!

Nothing really eventful happened in the pool.....it was filled with water and people? Hehe. We spent a few hours there and switched back and fourth from the hot tub to the pool a few times then layed in the sun for a while before heading back to the room. It was actually really great....quite different from my past trips to Disney. I was glad I really got to relax and enjoy the resort so much.

At 4:30p, all showered, dressed and ready we treked to the bus stop and hopped on a bus to Epcot to eat dinner (and drink) in and around the Food and Wine Festival.

Did I mention how awesome Disney is for doing their part to prevent drunk driving (even though that's probably not primarily why they have buses)??

We waited about 15 minutes for a bus...the longest we waited during our stay at the AKL. When we got to Epcot at about 5:20p there was actually a LINE to get into the park!?!? Unfortunetly, this did not bode well for the rest of the evening, World Showcase was PACKED....like Christmas packed. Shouder to Shoulder, being hit with strollers, drunk people EVERYWHERE being loud and obnoxious, long lines for food....ugh it was my nightmare but I was determined to have a good time!!

Since we did have another night planned at the F&WF we decided to hit only the booths with a shorter (more bareable) line....except for Mexico; because I'm a mexican food fanatic and I needed me a quesadilla even if I had to wait an hour. :)

We started in Mexico and we hit the booths for: Mexico, Thailand, Oktoberfest, and the United States as well as the more permenant Funnel Cake kiosk. Thailand had the best wine, in my opinion. I can't remember the name but the one I had was white, sweet and not at all dry.....and quite strong. As you can see we didn't hit many booths (the lines were just too long that day) but we DID manage to make it to the bakery in France, Boulangerie Patisserie, and purchased many things of the sweet and buttery nature to bring back to the resort.

Trying to avoid the mass exodus at the end of the night we agreed that enough was enough for that evening (DBF was being a cranky pants...again, but so was I...large crowds are not my thing) and we headed back to the bus stop at around 8:45p.

Back at the resort, DF30 went off to the hot tub while DBF went to sleep. DF27 and myself watched a movie (or half of one anyway) and ate pastries. We retired to bed at around midnight. I set my first ever Disney wake up call for 9am (I usually use my cell phone alarm)....tomorrow would be breakfast at Kona Cafe and the Magic Kingdom!!!

YaaaaaaaaY!!!!

Sunday October 1st, 2006

Stitch has GOT to go!! Mickey's voice in the morning = cute. Stitch's voice = annyoing, grating and just generally irritating but no mind because today was the most magical of all magical days at the mother of all Mouse Houses!! I couldn't wait for DF27 to see the castle!! Yeah, I'm that lame.

But first things first....10:10am breakfast at Kona Cafe! A first for me (as well as everyone else). The morning was like every other morning, shower, get dressed, meet with DF's and get moving!! We arrived at the Polynesian (which I've only ever seen in the dark) at 9:50a, took some pictures and went upstairs to check in. OH MAN does the Poly smell GREAT in the morning!!! Our mouths were all watery-like!! Unfortunetly, the people at the desk must have forgotten about us because we waited 40...yes FOURTY minutes to be seated, and that's only after I was finally like...WHAT IS GOING ON!! I'M HUNGARY!! Hehe.

At ten to 11 we were seated. Let me just note that Kona is a beautiful restaurant, I and everyone else really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was fun and bright and really went nicely with the mood of the day. We ordered some coffee, one regular pot and one french press. IF YOU LIKE COFFEE....GO HERE!!.....because it was amazing!! Actually EVERYTHING was amazing!! This place in general was just amazing....I HIGHLY, highly recommend it. DF30 and I got their famous Tonga Toast, DF27 ordered Pineapple Macadamia Nut pancakes and DBF ate steak and eggs. All manner of food and coffee were spectacular. We paid and jumped onto the monorail at about 11:30a....a little bit of a late start but better late then never!

To me NOTHING beats the feeling you get when you are in the Magic Kingdom, it's indescribable but I'm sure everyone knows what I mean. When you visit one place for so many years, so many times...smells and sights can trigger the craziest of emotions. I tend to tear when I see the castle...I dunno, it just does that to me. I was in Disney with people that mean so much to me...I was happy it was going well, I was happy everyone was having a great time and I was thankful I was able to even GET there...I know that I am lucky to have the things that I have.

But I digress...

As we rounded the corner of Main Street and the Castle came into full view DF27 let out a big "ooooooooh it's so beautiful"......yes it is!! We snapped some pictures and moved onto Tomorrowland. We hit the WEDWay, a favorite of mine and Space Mountain for which we waited 45 minutes (grrr), we lingered a bit inside the gift shop and then moved on. I wasn't all that worried about hitting everything, I know I'll be back so I let DF27 & DF30 pick the rides that we went on. Unfortunetly, some lines were a little long, the park anniversary is probably a day we should avoid in the future.

Earlier in the day, we had come to an agreement to stay in the MK until parade time, then we'd go back to hang out at the resort and return to MK for dinner and Extra Magic Hours. We strolled thru Fantasyland....we didn't hit any rides there. As much as I love Peter Pan's Flight and all that stuff no one was willing to wait 45 minutes to an hour and a half to ride them, even myself. So we just enjoyed the sights...we even came across Mary Poppins. We took some photos of her with other people's chidren :) and continued on to Liberty Square. There, we rode the Haunted Mansion. I'd love to work on this ride if ever given the opportunity...I just LOVE the cast members around there...so creepy and weird...with great costumes!!

By the time we got off the HM it was about 2pm, we decided to head out a little early so we turned and headed for the front of the park. People were already lined up for the parade making this slightly trickey but nothing crazy. When we got to the very front of the park there was some sort of street performance going on with all sorts of ladies in red, white & blue victorian dresses, a few older characters like the lady cow who's name I can't remember, and some small children as well. Anyway they were waving American flags and singing "Yankee Doodle" & "Grand Old Flag" and stuff like that...I'd never seen it before so we stopped for a few, it was pretty cute.

We took the monorail back to the Poly (where the car was) and stopped at Kona Express for more coffee (yes, it is that yummy). We arrived back at the hotel at about 2:45p. We retired to our respective rooms and I took a nap while DBF played some video games...I have no clue what DF27 & 30 did.

At around 5:30p I got up to get ready for 6:30p reservations at the Crystal Palace. We ran SUPER late for this one. I can never can get the travel time right!! We didn't get into the Magic Kingdom until 6:30 and we didn't check in until 6:50p....Oops (I wanted to make sure we had EMH bracelets first just in case). We were seated pretty quickly considering how many people we waiting. Aaaand we were within view of the Castle which was awesome!! This is DBF's favorite buffet so he was saving his appetite all day (as was I) and it was soooo worth it, we ate several plates of food each...the largest of mine consisting of dessert....I needed a large dinner plate for that!!!

It was dark by the time we finished. This time, we went for Adventureland first. We meandered very slowly towards Pirates of the Carribean, in and out of all the nooks and crannies of Adventureland....all that food was hard to carry around, but we made it there eventually. Haha. We waited about 20 minutes.....well worth it!! The changes were nice and suddle and I really, really enjoyed the Davey Jones part. Hats off to the imagineers who were able to maintain the rides original kitchy-ness and at the same time work in some new stuff....they really are amazing thinkers.

As we left Pirates, we caught the tail end of Spectro Magic and the beginning of Wishes while heading toward Splash Mountain. The first time around, we waited 20 minutes to ride. By the time we got off the park was officially closed and the line was 0 minutes, so we rode again!! When we got off the second time...EMH visitors had started to line up and the wait time ballooned to 40 minutes!! EMHs were apparently very popular that night! We thought it might thin out if we waited (and wandered) a bit but it never did so at about 10:30p we walked over to Space Mountain to catch that one more time before leaving. On the way out we stopped at the Main Street Bakery for some goodies (as was becoming the tradition when leaving a park) and headed back to the Lodge.

The next day was check out so I decided that I wanted to pack our things up that night so I could sleep as late as possible the next morning, DF27 agreed that was a good idea and we split up for the night. I spent the rest of the night re-packing and finally joined DBF in bed pretty close to midnight.

Tune in next time for our first time at the Boardwalk and some more baked goods!!!

Pictures of these two days to follow this evening!!!
