I'm Done!!! Too Many Changes We Don't Like

A deluxe is not $400+ a night. We just stayed at BC and the price before the 35% discount was $325 a night. Still pricey but not more than $400 a night.

Sorry, I call not true on this. If you use the 35% off code, even AKL is $330 a night, and BC is more than that.

Maybe you are doing it wrong. Try say a 2 Bedroom Villa with a small family of 4 at BCV for a week and see if that changes your mind. If you haven't tried that or something similar to that, then maybe you don't have enough information just yet to suggest that staying on site is a waste.

We are a family of 5 so I took your advice and looked at the rates at BCV...

The rack rate at the BCV is 1079$ PER NIGHT for a 2 bedroom villa (and from what I can see, you still only have 1 bathroom). That's insane !! Who pays over 1000$/night for a place to sleep ??

For our upcoming vacation offsite, we have rented a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom house with a private pool and spa. we have a pool table and foosball table in the garage, free wifi, washer dryer (not that I was planning on laundry but great if you need to dry your jackets after getting rained on). It's in a gated community. Full kitchen (not that I plan on cooking but the fridge will be handy for drinks and snacks and ice cream !). Price: 139$ per night. I can stay there for 8 days for the price of 1 night at the BCV. Yep, I'd say that is the DEFINITION of wasted money by staying onsite.

A deluxe is not $400+ a night.

Well, it depends on the deluxe and the season. :teacher: For instance, I just checked, and a non-discounted standard room at the Poly for the dates of 11/17 - 11/23 is $512.25 avg/night ($446 Sun-Thurs/$502 Fri). If you want to stay there Christmas week, it's $748 per night. And, if you want a lagoon or theme park view, it's well north of those numbers. For the same 11/17 - 11/23 time period, AKL and WL are the least expensive deluxe at $362/$387 respectively. Again, these are standard room prices and all before tax.

So, yes, you can find a deluxe for less than $400, if you choose one of the less expensive ones, or if you hit a lower season or use a discount. But, there's also a good chance you'll find yourself paying more than that.:flower3:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Absolutely!!! That's what I've been trying to say, but you said it much better, Thanks!

Personally, I don't care if people spend that much money on a Disney Vacation if they think it is worth it. But, when bombarded by the thoughts that, they are having a better time then I am, well, I have to take issue. I don't think I could even sleep nights spending that much money for a room. I get to go to all the same things that the high priced experience does and go home with a lot more cash in my pocket.

For the one that said that the solution was simple..Just don't go! I have to ask why? I can still go and enjoy myself and spend less. If they feel that it is important to go home much less wealthy..then as the song says..Be My Guest!

Our room WITH a 35% discount was $400+ a night at GF.

Sorry, I call not true on this. If you use the 35% off code, even AKL is $330 a night, and BC is more than that.

Really depends on when you go. In July 2012 we had WL CL for $249/night (with 40% off), and in April this year we had YC CL at $338/night (40% off). Now, we are booked at CR CL Theme park view next August for $400/night (with 40% off)...but it's CL at a monorail resort, so pricey....but I could get AKL CL for $265/night for that same time period.

You just have to go during value season with a good discount. :goodvibes

Although I still choke a little on $400, but that's what we paid for a room at The MGM resort at Foxwoods in CT (that too with a small discount) so the price isn't so out of the norm.

Even the $249/night for WL CL and the $265/night at AK CL are more than double what a room for us a Shades of Green is. :confused3

Offsite just works better for some families. There's nothing wrong with that (not saying that the person I quoted said that there was!). I don't have an issue with any of the current onsite perks, as they don't infringe on park guests during the regular park hours. For regular park hours, everyone in the park has paid the same admission to enter the park and should have the same access to the attractions that that admission pays for.

Yes, you can go and have a great time, even if staying offsite. But, you can't really complain about onsite guests getting what you don't. You make a choice and Disney has a choice about what they offer to offsite guests.

For every person implying that offsite guests won't have a good time, there's two or three smugly asserting that onsite guests are money wasting fools. So, there are more than enough generalizations to go around.:rolleyes2

People have different income levels, spending styles and touring styles. If someone has the means and chooses to pay $1000 a night, then that's their choice. If someone wants to stay in a timeshare offsite, that's their choice.

I've stayed all levels at WDW and offsite. I will never stay offsite again, but that's me. YMMV.

Sounds like a good deal but I suspect you are describing taking busses from a 'Value' Resort.

I suspect that those who have been highly critical of staying onsite on this thread probably never really treated themselves to a WDW vacation. Staying Onsite, sleeping in, doing a larger Villa at a Deluxe, Table Service at least 1-2 a day, etc.

Sure, staying at the All Stars in 2 queen beds sneaking in a family of 8 on a $2k budget and doing rope drop to sundown for 7 straight days sounds pretty painful to me. But that doesn't mean staying on site sucks, that just means if you vacation that way and are complaining about it, you are just doing it wrong.
True. One of my best trips was staying in a lagoon view, club level room at the Poly. I'm sorry, but my offsite stay was in no way comparable, lol. :rotfl2:

I had a great time staying at the GF on my honeymoon. The view of the castle from our room was fantastic, and I loved the resort! I would love to go back there some day.

But Shades of Green is great too. Is the view as nice as a castle view? no...but that isn't worth $300+ extra/night to me. I can still use the monorail (it was a decent walk from our room at the GF too), I can still do EMH, I have more space than at the GF, etc.

Is it the same as a stay at the GF? No. That was a magical vacation all around (some of that was the fact that it was our honeymoon, though). But our trips are not lesser, nor are we "doing it wrong," as the poster you quoted stated, because we're not at the GF every trip. :confused3

They aren't lesser for you,and that's great. For others, it wouldn't cut it and that's OK too.

Every so often on the resort boards, you get a post that questions why people would ever spend money at a deluxe, or for club level or to stay onsite. I'm just pointing out that questioning how others spend their money is just as foolish as questioning those who watch every penny.

People can have concerns about the current issues when they are only a test and not really a perk....but happen to be occurring during their vacation. When they MIGHT have made a different booking choice had they known the fear would occur now.

I leave on Wednesday. We considered changing up our plans to be inside where we usually are. In the end didn't

And really what right do you have Telling other la what they can and cannot complain about, lol.

I suspect that if you looked at your own life you might find a thing or two that logically it doesn't make since to fret about.

where were we complaining about about onsite guests getting what we (offsite guests) don't ? The onsite perks as I see them are: EMH, the 10 extra days of the ADR+10 , the ability to pay for the DDP (or get it free with a full rate room) and free parking at your resort.

Where has ANYONE complained that the offsite guests aren't allowed these things ? :confused3:confused3:confused3

The Disney transportation is available to everyone, not just resort guests so that's no an onsite perk.

As on off-site guest, I can go see the outdoor movies at your resort, I can eat in your resort restaurants, I can pop over and visit them, have a drink, chill in the lobby... I can't swim in your pool but then you can't swim in an off-site resort pool so that's not a perk.

Unless I am missing something - the above mentionned perks are just not worth the 7X price increase over what I am paying for my 5BDR/3BATH house.

No complaining here !

The only issue RIGHT NOW is the way Disney is doing their testing of the FP+. This is not an onsite perk as it has been stated that all guests will have access to FP+ once it rolls out. We are complaining about the lack of info from Disney about the testing/roll-out for FP+ but again, that is not an onsite perk.

People who don't research and just do what you did. That's who.

And in a 2 bedroom villa there are at least 2 bathrooms, possibly even a third.

Wasted money is in the eye of the beholder, btw. You see it as wasted money. Others might now. Value is all in perception.

ETA… Also, I don't know what time of year you're going, but rack rate is always going to be expensive.

I did a search on DVC's website, just in case you were interested in renting points to stay. I picked Dec 15th checking in. If you were to rent points from someone for BCV, which is usually around $14 a point, it would be $532 a night. So that's half of what you're quoting rack rate at.

Obviously your villa is cheaper, but again, it's perceived value of staying on site vs off site.

Then don't complain that on site guests get perks that you don't. (Not saying you specifically are, but this is the argument at hand.)

Where has ANYONE complained that the offsite guests aren't allowed these things ? :confused3:confused3:confused3.

You've got to be kidding? Have you read the multiple threads on this topic lately? The entire thread? All 40 something pages?? LOL Because there are plenty of complaints (not maybe from you) about on site guests getting perks over off site guests and that the new FP+ system might be tailored for on site guests once it's fully rolled out.

They aren't lesser for you,and that's great. For others, it wouldn't cut it and that's OK too.

I never said otherwise. The person you quoted specifically said that others who vacationed differently than she did were doing it wrong. What that person posted is pretty much the opposite of what you just posted above. That's all I was responding to. I'm sure CL at Poly is amazing. I'd love to do it someday. It just doesn't work for our family right now.:confused3

I haven't seen most people complaining about the current perks onsite guests get. :confused3

I've seen people take issue with the idea that those who stay on site will get more access to the attractions during regular park hours, when everyone pays the same admission to enter the park.

yes, yes, I know "onsite guests spend more." Yes, they do. And they get perks accordingly. Access to attractions during public park hours, for which every WDW guests pays the exact same admission fee, is not the same thing as EMH/dining plan/free parking/transportation/immersion
