Ya know. I'm not going to go around acting like i'm all hardcore Christian. There is one part of my religion that i'm fuzzy on. It seems to be one of the more controversial parts of my religion too.

I believe that God made the earth, the universe and everything in it. I believe that he did this in 7 "days". I'm not sure if I believe the bible equivalent of "days" to equal our days of 24 hours. I'm sure that God made me personally, me. I'm not sure if humans evolved though. But even if they evolved, somehow an aspect of creationism had to come in there. Animals didn't just come out of nowhere, they had to be created.

So, i'm not sure if I believe wholly in "creationism" as much as I do believe in a mix of "evolutionism and creationism". I'd like to say I fully believe creationism but I can't say that I do.

But, for those who still think that i'm a believer because of Pascal's Wager, I want to tell you that I'm not. There are so many other reasons. I praise God because I believe that he will help you through your times of need. (I've experienced this). I believe that God wouldn't put you through anything you couldn't go through. I believe that God gives us choices, he can't always protect us. He gives us the choice to look as we're crossing the street. He gives us the choice to jump off the bridge. He doesn't make anyone do anything. If God made anyone do anything, the world would be much much different.

I love working with the children at my church as they learn that God gives us choices. I love seeing them go through things (hard or good) knowing God has a hand in it. I believe God is more powerful than anything and I believe I was made to serve him.

It goes both ways dude with science and religion dude. This is coming from a Christian but since you say what made the universe and that thing, etc. Well what made God, and that person, and that thing. You have to have an Apex. And as a Christian Religion and Natural resources cause the most wars in the world.

Yea I know it goes both ways re-read my post that you quoted
- i belive that God was always here

My apex or facts as i see it, is the Bible. Again as i stated many posts before this is where the belief comes into Religion
Athiest's belief comes in when you ask the question, how did the universe form??? This is where there apex falls apart and now they dont have an apex.

I would say that the quest for power causes the most Wars.

Examples:
-Take a look at the Roman Empire, they wanted to control all land and look at all the wars they started
-Take a look at the Revolutionary War of the United States... The Americans wanted to have control of their own land so they kicked the Brits out
-Now if your asking out the current war well we went and took out Saddam and now are helping to rebuild their country. By doing this we earn some very important trust. Now this trust can do a lot of things, it can get the US the oil that it needs or it can give the US another partner in a war, which can give the US more power.

Unfortunately this quest for power can create enimies in the process

I am a catholic

I believe that there is a god who created mankind and the environment. I believe Jesus died on the cross for us. I believe this because it is what i was taught, and what i have come to believe

I have studied several different religions, both in textbook form and by having friends of different religions.

I beieve that it is a very bold statement, and one that is mislead to accuse people of only believing because they are afraid of going to hell. Just believing in God will not let you go to heaven. The devil knows God exists and look where he is. To accuse people of only believing in God due to fear would be like accusing people of not killing others only because they don't want to go to jail. Yes it is true that jail will deter some from killing, however the vast majority will not do it because they have great moral issues with killing someone.


If you're an atheist, that's fine, its different than what i believe, but hey whatever floats your boat. I have a few freinds that are athiest, and i had a civil coversation about religious differences with one of them. After around 20 minutes we decided that there was no point in arguing about it because we were both set in what we believe. There is no point in flaming anyone about what they believe because it is what they believe, and your not going to change that. However it is a great idea to calmly discuss the differences.

I believe in God becuase I look around and see so many things that couldn't have just randomly been created. I believe in God because IMO there is no better explaination to these creations other than God.

I don't think that anyone on these boards were condemning anyone to hell with they're scenarios. I think that they were simply saying, that even if your "religion" (athiesm) is right and there is not a God. They would be in no worse shape than you because we are well, both dead and no longer exist. However if my religion (christianity) turns out to be right I would be in a lot better shape than you. If you don't care and believe that there isn't a God, none of us will know for sure until we are dead. However, I like my posistion better than yours. This is not the only reason i believe in God however.

I like having faith in God. You may like not having faith in God. Or you may like believing in Allah. I have my reasons, you have yours. Don't accuse me of believing my religion for a certain religion. And i won't accuse you of believing yours for a certain reason. I respect other people's relgions as long as they respect mine.

What i ment to say about science is that i dont belive in the big bang theory or any other theory about how the universe was created because i think God made the Universe so i think all those theorys are crap, but if you and other people want to belive in that then go ahead.

And i was proving a point that science can cause hatred such as the bomb

I do think science is amazing and its my favorite subject in school. If it wasnt for science we wouldnt be sitting here discussing why we belive in a certain thing or not.

Hm..I've read through here and found some pretty good debate. Now, I am a Christian, and I do believe in God.... however, I wholly respect those who do not.

The way I see it..... there can not, NOT be a God. The fact that I can think is proof to me. The fact that the human genome is so freaking incredible, a complex code far more complex than anything written by man is proof to me.

And about where God came from........ well, I don't believe he 'came' from anywhere. Everything in nature and existance had to be created. God exists outside of creation and matter, therefore, he needs no creation. I believe he IS the ultimate reality.

Most of my family are hardcore Catholics, and though it may not seem like it, I DO respect religious people. They believe what they believe, and I just can't fathom believing in that.

Religious debates, are of course, useless. If someone worships something like god, even though they cannot technically prove he exists or ever existed, then their mind is not going to be changed with a simple argument. And if someone just CAN'T believe in something as big as religion, and by the word 'big' I mean that it is taught to most of us since we were a baby, then a simple argument just can't make them believe.

I disagree with that. If someone doesn't know where they stand, religiously, a debate could sway them to one direction. I've had countless people PM/email/IM me saying "wow you really changed my opinion with that". If someone is openminded, a debate really can change it.

Now, I'm not trying to change anyone, nor have I ever. That simply a byproduct of the conversation. And thats what I view it as. Its not an argument, its not a debate, its a conversation. Everyone is saying exactly what they think and not trying to sway anyone in any direction. Which is what I wanted.
