If it goes out and I'm downstairs there is one in the drawer in the coffee table in front of me. If I'm upstairs there is one on my nightstand.

Just happened to put them there this winter in preparation of storms. Guess the kid haven't found them yet so they're still there.

I may keep a flashlight close at hand if I know the storm that's coming is severe. Otherwise, I have a couple of flashlights stored where I can find them easily.

I don't keep one too close, but I do have one in my bedroom (candles around the house and matches in a drawer in the kitchen). The one in my room is plugged into the wall, but it's cool...it draws a power charge from being plugged in, and when the power goes out it lights up so it is easy to find in the dark! It also has batteries it runs on when the charge is gone...probably the best present from my parents.

I could easily put my hands on any number of flashlights in the dark in my house.

There is a flashlight & a headlamp in my hiking backpack that is sitting on bedroom floor since I use it several times a week.

There is a flashlight in the bathroom closet on the top floor.
One in the cleaning closet on the main floor.
One in the garage on the bottom floor.
And one of those battery backup/emergency light/power supply things plugged in in the living room at all times.

There are jar candles just about everywhere and matches near them.

Yes, I know where all my flashlights are...even if I had to find them in the dark.

And I know where all the extra batteries are AND a battery powered radio.

AND I know where my duct tape is.

I do know where our flashlights are (DH keeps the Maglite by his side of the bed and youngest DD keeps one on the back porch for the kitten, LOL).

But, if it were a storm bad enough to knock out the power, I'd likely be 5 miles down the road at my MIL's where there's a basement because storms scare the heck out of me.

A thunderstorm is much different from a tornado. If there is only a thunderstorm and no warnings, it doesn't even phase me. Severe T-storm warnings, and I am on alert, but not going for the flashlight. Tornado warning is issued, and I have my kids in the lower level bathroom (interior room) with a flashlight, and I am watching the TV and the sky. I also have my purse, cell phone, and car keys in the event we need to get out or something does hit.

If you wait for a hurricane warning, and then go get a flashlight to keep you safe... I just can't even begin to tell you what all is wrong with your thinking!

It's 9:30 at night.. You're sitting wherever in your home.. You can hear a thunderstorm off in the distance.. Suddenly it's right there where you are.................................

Do you have a flashlight right next to you - in case the power goes out - or if it does, are you going to have to stumble around in the dark and try to find one?


As soon as I hear thunder in the distance (after dark), I get my flashlight and have it right here beside me..

It wouldn't be right next to me, so I would be stumbling around a little bit.
BUT I do always know right where it is - its magnetic and is always stuck to the side of the fridge. So if I can get to the fridge, I am good to go.

Keep one in computer room, one in familiy room, one in basement, one in kitchen and one in my bedroom.

Of course, I can also use the light from my cell phone screen, so could probably do away with all the flashlights as long as my phone is with me.

See, in my case its a geographical difference.
In NW Montana we don't get tornados or hurricanes, and even our most severe of thunderstorms are not much more then some thunder and lightening and maybe some hail. Power is rarely lost. Our biggest worry is blizzards in winter. Most Montanans are far more prepared for blizzards than for any other weather event. In the wintertime we stock water and foods, flashlights, batteries, candles, emergency radios, and many people own generators for power outages.

I have an old cell phone (Trac Fone) I don't use (my DSIL insisted I buy it and doesn't know I've never used it - LOL) - maybe I should charge it up for an extra light - huh? I could put that in the bathroom..

DH keeps his cell phone on his bed stand to use as night light for bathroom ! That doesn't work for me, as I keep mine in my purse. Plus, whenever I take it out, I'm on a search for where I used it last !?!?! We're a sad situation I tell you!?!?!

We don't have thunderstorms very often here, but there is always the threat of an earthquake.

So, we have wind-up flashlights in our cars, in the bedroom, and I think one in the kitchen somewhere, as our kitchen and living room is one large room. (Along with First aid kits and varies survival kits in both the house and the cars.)

Plus, my cell phone is bright and always charged, and DH has the flashlight app on his iPod.

So, yes, I am prepared as you are!

This reminds me of a funny story when I was in Jr. High. I was home alone (with the dogs..so i wasnt totally alone). My parents and brother were at a football meeting or something. It starts to storm and the power goes out. Dark outside, dark inside. I couldnt see a thing! Find flashlight...BATTERIES DEAD! I begin to freak out! It took me an hour to find matches to light up a candle. But the funny part of the story is that we have a gas stovetop... only me!

Nope, no flashlight next to me. I think I have one out in the car.

If the lights go out, I would light candles.

The sad thing is, my cordless television isn't digital, so I no longer have access to the news if the power goes out.
