Okay, here's the deal......

I joined online WW on Dec16. Didn't follow it too strictly because of the holidays and all. Just kinda got the feel of things, joined WISH, researched what type of exercise routine I wanted to follow. I managed to maintain through the holidays, which was fine.

Beginning last Sunday, I became very committed to the plan. I have written down everything I eat, noted my exercise, made notes about my feelings, moods..... I have exercised 5 out of the last 7 days (officially, with FIRM tapes). The other two days I was VERY active and no couch potato. I stepped on the scale this AM (even though official weigh in day is Wed) and STILL it hasn't budged! I mean, even a lb would help encourage me!

I have always seen a big lose at the beginning of a diet, which I know is just water, but hey a lb is a lb right?! I am just so disappointed that the scale will NOT move! I mean, out of my 35 flex points (which reset on WED), I still have 27.5 left! And I am eating a lot (I've never been one who eats all day long all the time, just ususally eat the wrong things.) I eat a lot of carrots and celery because they are zero points. Why won't that scale go DOWN!!!!!!

I am gonna stick with this, it has to go down, right??? RIGHT???? I am beginning to worry!

Oh, how I have walked in your shoes! During my weight loss (110 lbs.--I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing this by now!) I plateaued many, many times--there were a few that lasted between 2-3 weeks. I'd exercise every day, eat perfectly, and the weight just would not come off--sometimes I'd even gain a pound here and there, and I always thought that I wouldn't lose anymore. Yes, it can be sooooo discouraging (my dh would put his hands over ds's ears so he wouldn't hear mommy "being discouraged"! ) but it will pass. It may last a few days, maybe a few weeks like me, but it will pass--I PROMISE! Keep up the great work you're doing!

How about throwing away those darned 'ol scales ??? ;) I know that it's frustrating, and can be so depressing. It's very hard to say, "it's just a number, and I know that I'm doing great", but that's what you really need to do right now. I personally would lock the scales in the attic, keep up with your WW and exercise, and pull the scales out after 4 weeks.

The other thing to consider is whether or not you are counting the right points for what you're eating? Make sure you measure your servings until you become comfortable with what, for example, 3 oz of meat looks like. And, are you drinking your water ??? This is a major key element to weight loss.

The only other thing I can offer is a

:wave2: Hi, Sharon.

One thing I didn't see mentioned in your post and wondered about was water. WW recommends you drink at least six 8 oz glasses of water a day. That really helps jump start your loss in the beginning. If you haven't been drinking water, that could be affecting you. Also, if it is near TOM for you, you could be retaining water from that.

Does WW online have the new fast track program available? That might help you jump start things a bit. Basically, the fast track program just calls for eating 20 points a day for 2 weeks. They don't recommend that you try it for any longer than 2 weeks.

But, the week's not over yet, is it?? I know that I've seen weeks where the loss doesn't show until the very last day of the week! Give it a couple more days, and you may see a change!

Don't worry!! The scales can't help but respond to all the positive changes you are making! You are doing a great job! I'm especially impressed that you are jumping right into an exercise routine! You will lose weight!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Yupp, I'm gonna turn into a goldfish with all this water!

I've always been a big water drinker, but I've REALLY stepped it up this past week. (And it has not been easy considering the temp around here has been about 5!:earseek: ) Been shooting for 100 oz. per day (since I would typically drink about 64oz per day).

And I'm pretty sure I'm doing the points right. Don't do too many foods that require measuring the weight - I've been trying to keep it simple to start. I do things like McDs salad for lunch (with no dressing).

Thanks for the encouragement! It helps to know that others have been there, done that!

Hi Sharon,

Please don't get discouraged. Everyone is different, and possibly your body is holding onto weight because it isn't sure what you are doing to it.

How many weeks have you been doing this? If you have already been doing it for a few weeks, your body may have already gotten adjusted to the "new lower amounts" you are eating and not give you that "BIG" loss.

Here are a few ideas that I have thought of after reading your post:

1. You are exercising, and while the same LB of fat and muscle weigh the same, muscle is denser and takes up more space so you may actually have built some extra muscle that is keeping you from showing a loss. In a week or so, it should level off and you should start to see a loss.

2. You are eating a lot of carrots and celery. I always notice that when I eat a lot of carrots, its full of fiber and they are heavy. It definately shows in the scale. Don't dispare- keep eating them. It will even out.

3. Have you increased your fiber intake? Your body may be trying to adjust and you may be a little "blocked". I am glad you are drinking lots of water. I am not good with drinking water, and I occassionally get back-ed up and have this heavy full feeling and it definately shows up on the scale until I get more regular. Your body may have to get used to all this "new fiber" and healthier eating.

4. TOM- like the others have mentioned, this could definately make you retain water.

5.- Salty foods. Boy does this make the scale jump for me. Heaven forbid if I have a dill pickle or a few olives. YIKES. Chinese food will do this too me too. I try to eat salty foods at the beginning of my week, and watch them prior to weigh in.

6. Are you eating prior to WI? If your doing it at home, you probably aren't. Also, I tend to weigh less in the late afternoon, even less than early in the morning. Maybe try different times of the day.

Keep up the good work, it will show up. I know its frustrating, but its a great program and it does work.

Hi Sharon!

Any advice I had for you was already mentioned by our fellow WISH'ers so I just wanted to say don't give up! I've been in your shoes many times and I'm there right now. Just keep following your points and exercising and you will see results. :D Good luck and please don't get discouraged, you are doing a great job!

I agree with all of the others with the different suggestions and things to think about. I also just wanted to cheer you and tell you to stick with it and you will be glad you did. Keep up your hard work and it will begin to pay off.:D
