Monday it will be 2 weeks since I got my perm, and I still hate it. It has "relaxed" but some parts have actually straightened out completely. I know, I could probably go back to the salon and see what they could do, but I doubt I will. I blew it dry and curled it with the curling iron yesterday and today, and like that so much better!! Sure wish I hadn't wasted the $50!!

I suppose this is what they mean when they say, "live and learn". Sorry you were disappointed with your perm.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. But, it might next time.

Next time? Good heavens, no!! :) I try to be the kind of person who learns from her mistakes!!

There are some perms that work better on some people. I know I have had perms that crispy fried my hair, perms that you think "what perm", and perms that were good. Of course, they were under different stylists.

I feel your pain. I spent two years growing out bangs and getting my hair to be all one length. I went for a haircut last week at a new place to get a cut with a few long layers. FEW and LONG being the operative words. Well, I look like Shelly Long when she played Carol Brady for the Brady Bunch movie. Be happy that a curling iron and blow dryer make a difference for you!

Sorry you are dealing with this. Lots of times if the top layer of the hair is not layered or layered enough, you'll have trouble with it curling. That layer is more damaged than the underneath part too. Of course, proper technique of the perm, rinsing, blotting etc. all make a difference also. Perms are much more gentle than they used to be. Sometimes too much so.

Anyway, think of it this way: Having the perm will give your hair a bit more body and the hair will hold your blowstyle/curling much better. I think that is the only way to look at it. ;)

I'm sorry that a perm didn't work for you, Chattyaholic.

Isn't it amazing how much we feel better about our appearance when we like our hair? If blow drying and curling ironing your hair makes you feel best about your appearance, then good.

Keep on slathering on the high-quality conditioner though. As you know, the hair is still permed and then you are putting hot air and hot curling irons on top of it. :)

The last time I got a perm, which was back in the 80's, the crazy stylist burned half my hair off. My stylist now would never even consider giving me a perm, she has said from the beginning that my hair and perms DO NOT mix! And I listen!

Just be thankful your hair didn't burn. And I agree with Sharby, keep using the conditioner, pretty soon your hair will get back to normal.
