O.K. after a mere 1.5 hour wait...I was given the priveledge of seeing the great OZ;) He claimed that this was the first he was hearing of our situation:rolleyes: and wanted to pass me back down to principal at DS school. I hope the office surveillance camera got a good shot of the look on my face. Needless to say, I remained put and pulled out a 8by10 photo of DS and explained that we were about to discuss a little boy here, not a number, not a test score, not an excuse to get Gov't funding for LD, and that I was not leaving until he had written a letter to DS teacher and principal stating that they are to lay off DS and are no longer at liberty to continue suggesting that he has an LD in class, privately or anytime else. I have also had DS removed from card system and school can call me if he is a problem. That pulling out the wrong colored pencil for a map project does not qualify for a negatively based reprimand. I could go on and on, but bottom line is in the PSschool system, DS will continue to struggle because he thinks outside the box. Even the Superintendant stated that "schools are a business" not news to me but very sad indeed. I am off to check out another private school...and it is snowing so need to allow extra travel time. Thanks again everyone for all your great support. At least until I can get DS into a better situation he won't be publicly humiliated in class. I have 4 extra copies of the letter myself. Told Supt. that I needed one for our Psyc and attorney. THAT got his attention!

So sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds like you are on the right track. It is awful to hear a Superintendant talk about school as a business.

Good luck with the private school search.

Keep on fighting for what you know is best! That is one of our jobs as parents, to viciously protect our children from evil. The way that school humiliates children is evil in my book!

Did you check into the whole gifted thing? If there are programs at your local schools for gifted students, it would be free.

Things are going better with my son at school. We have our second student study meeting on the 13th and I intend to do very much what you just did.....tell them to GET OFF HIS BACK and let him be a little boy. Yes, he is fidgety, but he doesn't bother anyone but himself and his grades are great, he's way above level in all subjects and I am sick and tired of the school telling me he has a "problem" after we have jumped through all their hoops and had him tested and NO, he doesn't have a problem. He is not ADHD and does NOT need ritalin or any other drug.

Anyway, the point of my post is you go girl!

I don't understand why some teachers think they can humiliate kids like that. I had a teacher in the 6th grade that did this to kids. I hate her to this day for doing it.

Thank God Seth has a great teacher, but I know the time will come when he will probably have a not so great teacher. Believe me they don't want me to show up at the supers office.

...wanted to pass me back down to principal at DS school

This is common practice to get passed down to the principal. You did the right thing though. Good for you and your DS that you didn't back down!

When parents have to go to the superintendent's office is never a good thing for the principal or the teacher. This is especially true for the principal, as it makes them look like they can't handle or control the situation.

Good luck to you in your search!:D

Good for you, you did great! I hope you find something that's good for your son.

It's a shame you're having to go through all this Pam, but I agree with the others; you're doing the right thing and good for you!!! :) :) :)

Hang in there and please us know if your meeting today produces any results. . :)

I've somehow missed this situation, but just finished getting caught up and wanted to say keep going! You're doing a huge service for not only your DS, but other children currently in that school or to follow.

Keep up the excellent work, and let us know how things turn out!
