Well I bet more than 3/4's of the people on this board don't know who the heck I am and the other 1/4 probably don't remember me but after a long hiatus - I'm back! After our trip to WDW last December, I must have gotten into a funk since I wouldn't be going again for a while and kind of slacked off the boards.
Basically I had wanted to post because I had seen in the past people who wanted to buy into DVC but either didn't own a house already or didn't have children yet and were afraid to take a step like this before doing so. Well we bought 200 points at BWV in May of 2000. This past March 15, we closed on our first house (we were approved no problem) and this October we are due with our first baby! I just wanted anyone with questions about this to know it can be done. Maybe not everyone would want to do it in this particular order, but my view is you only live once and vacations are a necessity to keep sane from the everday world. My next goal is figuring out how I can stay home for a least a year with my baby, but I'm sure we'll work something out. We won't be vacationing (at least to WDW until my baby is probably a year old) but we had pretty much planned for this anyway. I can't wait to see how my baby reacts to everything at WDW (to me this is the true value of purchasing DVC). Well its great to be back and I'm glad to see so many more people have found this board! Take care!

Maybe you should reconsider and go ahead to WDW before your new little one is a year old. We took our son at 6 months and we had a great time!

Heather, Welcome Back!

I agree with the above poster...if you can swing it take the baby before a year. My dd had an incredibly wonderful time at WDW just before she turned 6mo. Of course I realize the absolute most importantthing is being able to stay home with your baby...then worry about vacation.

We are non-homeowner DVCer's. Actually we had kids first, then joined DVC and we're not looking to buy a house yet. We know where we want to vacation, but where we want to live is still a big "?". I'm more worried about getting more points than getting a house!

Well Dave we don't have to worry about banking anything since we borrowed all but 15 points up until 2002 :( Of course we could always take our baby in June of 2002 and that way he/she would be around 7 - 8 months old. (You can see it doesn't take much to convince me when it comes to going to WDW) I figure we'll probably spend most of our time at the pool and the Magic Kingdom, that way we can cut down on the cost of park tickets, but we still can't wait! Thanks to everyone for being so friendly and welcoming me back, this has really made my day!

Hi Heather, we took our grandson who was born in Oct 98 down to DW in Dec 98 HE WAS 2 MONTHS OLD..he loved it I think and ahs been back 4 more times!!! How was your trip to the Poly on your DVC points...did it work out OK...have fun with your new baby and take him to DW soon...Marianne :)

Hi Marianne! The Poly was great except for no hot tubs and the fact that we spent over 300 points to stay there for 7 days - ouch! BUt we didnt really have a choice, that was the only time we could go on vacation and none of the DVC properties or our home BW had any availability. Trust me except for maybe the occasional visit we'll be sticking to the DVC properties from now on. I'm debating on trying the VWL when we go since its close to the MK and that's pretty much where will mainly be going. Hope we can get in with the 7 month window. One plus note about the above-mentioned Poly trip, since I got there so early to check in (7:30 a.m.) we got a lagoon view in the Tahiti builidng right across from the Contemporary and Space Mountain - the view was awesome! Take care and I'll be seeing you guys later!
