My first trip was in 1972 when I was a teenager, so I have been going for a long time. I think what is different at least in my case, is that when I first started going, fireworks weren't that common. You saw them at the 4th of July and at WDW and it was really cool. Now we see them all the time. You see them at the end of baseball games and many other places you didn't see them 30 or 40 years ago.
Also, the other parks have stepped up their game. Look at how Universal has really bloomed from when we started going during the Nickelodeon days. Dollywood is a great park and even Holiday World which is close to us has grown over the years. We have more things to judge WDW to and lets be honest, they haven't kept up with park changes like other parks have is another reason people aren't as happy as they use to be.
