There's a lot of good places to watch Illuminations from. I like the bridge near the International Gateway, or the "promenade" type structure in front of Italy. I've gotten to both of these places between 8:20 and 8:30 and found a place right along the railing to stand.

Illuminations is a great show. If you're a good photographer, you might want to try and take pictures during the show. Personally, I've found that taking good pictures of fireworks is difficult (doesn't stop me from trying though), and that sometimes the show is more enjoyable if I'm not worrying about taking pictures.

For a first timer, I'd agree with staking out a spot on the promenade in fron tof Italy. And while you're there, you can have someone pick up some mousse from Italy.... Or some pastries from France... Or a Beavertail. =)

I got some great pictures of Illuminations from this spot. We were sitting down right at the waters edge and I just used the railing as like a tripod for my camera. I'ver gotten pretty creative at using railings, benches, and trashcans as tripods. haha
