OK! I have made a PS for Rose & Crown for Thursday, April 28 at 7:50PM in hopes of getting a seat by the water to watch Illuminations after we dinner. Does anyone have any tips or advice they can give me about how to obtain a seat by the water to watch the show. I know I need to request a seat by the water when checking-in at the podium, but are there any other tips that might help me? Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
ADP :goodvibes

May, 2004 I made reservations for 7:30 hoping to wait for a lagoon side table. When I requested a seat by the water I was told that the people who are at those tables have been there for hours and they won't be going anywhere until after Illuminations!!!

We got a seat outside on the side of the bldg. which had a beautiful view of the lagoon, so we weren't disappointed. I just think it's rude to the waitresses that these people take tables for MANY HOURS!! I'm sure it cuts down on their tips!!

Anyway, right before Illuminations started, we were shown to a Rose and Crown viewing area which was perfect!! We had the same view as the "table hoggers" :sad2: and didn't have to waste HOURS of our park time!!!

They have a special viewing area for those that are not table-hogging? Awesome, we have never tried R&C before and would like to do so this upcoming trip with our dining plan.

Is the dinner menu kid-friendly?

It was just DH and I on the trip where we ate at Rose and Crown, so I didn't look at the kids menu. Here is the kids menu listed on allears.com:

Cottage Pie - spiced ground beef with mashed potatoes and melted cheese $5.29

Harry Ramsdens Famous Fish and Chips - battered, fried cod with crispy potatoes $6.49

Grilled Chicken - with mashed potatoes and peas $6.49

Pasta - with marinara sauce $4.99

Poppin's Cheese Pizza - with fruit $4.99

King or Queens Ice Cream Sundae $2.59
Devonshire Cold Custard Fondue with Seasonal fruit $2.59

Thanks - He likes fish so that will be good. Love the picture of the girls.

Have eaten there 3 times with DS, between 2 and 3 years old. Dinner menu for kids is very kid-friendly, although he was NOT IMPRESSED with our mushroom appetizer.

We have always gotten a waterside table just by asking, or agreeing to wait another 10 minutes or something. Of course, I am sure that is just luck. Timing too ---- a 7:50 seating time should get you one, or you could move it back to 7:30 or 7:40. The waitresses are very used to people "squatting" at those tables for hours and have never been rude about it. Of course, we usually order dessert as a "thanks" anyway.

Keep in mind if it rains, they will roll down the clear plastic sides of the awning and you'll still be able to see Illuminations but it will be sort of fuzzy. No way to predict that though!

Have fun, we love the R&C. Try the pie sampler, very good.

It WILL! :goodvibes

My wife and I have watched the show from the R&C twice now....each time, it did not seem like there was any chance we would get a table by the water, and each time we did. In fact, we've gotten the SAME table both times!

I really enjoy the fish and chips at the R&C....it is about as close as you can get to the real thing in England or Australia. And no matter where you are, people are generally kind enough to let you join their table for Illuminations.

I wouldn't worry too much...just go with the flow. It will all work out alright....and you'll enjoy the experience! :cheer2: :cheer2:

If a person makes a PS for Rose & Crown, hoping for a terrace table to see Illuminations, and upon arrival learns that there is no way they will get a terrace table, is it acceptable to say 'no, thank you' and leave instead of continuing to dine there at whatever seating is offered?

I wouldn't be annoyed or upset or leave in a huff, but just chalk it up to experience, say it was worth a try, and if it doesn't work out, try again another time. So, may one politely smile and say never mind, we'll skip it this time?
