We were on our yearly vacation 8/7-14 DVC trip to Disney both wife and myself ended up getting colds by the end of the week. Kids stayed healthy. It seemed like everyone was coughing and sneezing all over the property. Anyone encounter this?

I have the same thing. I live about five minutes from WDW property. Seems like a lot of folks have it.

I also have this.. (trip from 8/1 to 8/15) started about 8/11 ..

started as a slight cough, and then went up to my sinuses.. VERY painful... :(

I thought it was from getting caught in a downpour at Typhoon Lagoon, heading into an air conditioned covering, then back out into the heat, and back into the AC...

We get sick every single time we go to Disney (afterwards though, not usually while we are there). And we don't normally get sick otherwise. I think it is a combination of not eating as well while we are gone (nutrition/weakened immune system) and then of course all the tons of people there. A lot of people do not cancel their vacations just because they have a cold or whatever since they have been planning it for so long. So that combined with all the people there touching every surface, it just spreads so quick.

Same here. We always have at least one of the 5 of us come home sick. Last September was the most serious though, my youngest son and I both came home with swine flu. When we returned from our May trip this year he had Coxsackievirus, better known as Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. We try to be VERY careful about hand washing and sanitizing, but we are only as safe as the person next to us is courteous.

My son came back with a very sore throat which has worsened since then. It's been 20 days since then and he still can barely swallow! No diagnosis but I'm certain he picked up a bug at Disney since his first symptom was the day we flew home. (Blood tests and throat swabs have ruled out most things.)

Does he have ulcers in his mouth? Or blisters on his hands and/or feet? One of the symptoms of HFMD is sore throat. My DS had the sore throat for about 2 weeks, but never had the blisters on his extremities. There is nothing that can be done about the illness except to keep the fever down and wait it out.

There are no ulcers in his mouth but there are bumps in his throat that have gotten worse. I also thought HFMD as I'm somewhat familiar with it. (I work with children. That and pinkeye are the enemy!) He hasn't had any bumps/blisters on his extremities at this point but I do think it's possible to have HFMD without them, although rare. He does have a dime sized rash near his lower lip.

He's on his 21st day of being sick. The doctors acted like we were hyper, over-reactive parents which really, really irked me since I'm not exactly the person calling for every little thing. (Yes, we've already put in calls to change doctors.) Anyhow, long story short, it's taken us three throat swabs and a blood test to get to this point. (And lots of eye rolling and not backing down.) If the antibiotics don't work, I'm insisting on an ENT referral and I'm going to ask again about HFMD.
