Illegal or unethical?

This really seems to be bothering you.

Bother me? Nah. Curious about the ethics of this "rich, successful friend"...sure!

I know how I feel about it...I'm just curious what other people think. Either way...I'm certainly not going to turn her in or anything crazy like that. Again...it's really not my business. I'm just asking people their opinions on whether they think it's ok or not. That seems to bother you. :confused3

I would never prescribe medicine for anyone that I have not personally seen or treated prior. IF it is in fact the case, the Dentist had better be careful, she could lose her license for that:rolleyes1. I'm sure she knows that to be the case. And if you thought that what she was doing was in fact unethical or illegal, why would you want any part of that as you stated:confused3. I would get as far away from her as I could and not look back:eek:

I'm not friends with the dentist...I only know our neighbors whom she apparently writes the scripts for. When they were talking about it I just didn't comment. If these ladies are able to get scripts without a doctor visit, I guess good for them. I joke that maybe I should get in a little tighter with this group (just to be cheap) but I'm JOKING...I wouldn't ever feel comfortable that a dentist would have the first clue about treating me or my family for something non-dental related...even if we were friends.

A dentist is licensed to prescribe medicine so this can't be classified as illegal. If the dental creed is the same as the medical creed of "first do no harm" this would fall under unethical. What it definitely is is stupid. Giving someone antibiotics within a confirmed bacterial illness is just setting that person up for the possibility of catching a superbug. I absolutely wouldn't give a baby antibiotics unless I was absolutely certain it was needed.

What makes you think this Dentist is rich? Most make good money but General Dentists usually don't make enough to be "rich".

I don't know if she's rich...as I said in my first post...this neighbor likes to make people believe everyone she associates with is rich and successful. The only reason I believe this story is because the other gal, who is NOT like this was speaking with her about the dentist writing scripts for each of them (as the dentist is a mutual friend). Otherwise I'd just assume it was another "benefit of rubbing elbows with the rich" story.

Good for them though...saves them having to go to a doctor to pay for a co-pay. I personally wouldn't trust a dentist to write me a script for anything other than a dental issue...but to each their own.
