We will be traveling to WDW with a co-worker and her three kids (6,8,9), and I think she is a little paranoid over the kids getting sick. She bought some fever medicine, pepto-bismal, band aids...etc. What would you suggest as parents that she also bring? Or what was one thing that you wish you had brought? Thanks for you imput.

I bring kids fever med, kids flu, benadryl, motion sickness med, pepto-bismal, a thermometer, cough medicine, a small first aid kit, scissors to cut bandaids, tweezers, medicine dropper. If they get swimmers ear-med for that, any prescription her kids are currently taking plus a refill auth. When she gets to the hotel she should ask the front desk to recommend a doctor, pharmacy and hospital near by. DS had some type of strange reaction to something our 1st day at WDW and had blotches all over his face and body (it wasn't sunburn either). I had benedryl on hand which in the end helped, but DH and I cluelessly scanned the yellow pages for a doctor or hospital just in case. We had no idea what was closest. Thank goodness it resolved itself.

Have her to ask her children's doctor at home what she should do if one of them becomes sick while on vacation. I did this before our first big trip when Ds was just a toddler. Our Dr. says to always call them (carry the number with you) and they can often save you a trip to the ER and if they think your child needs to see someone, they can recommend someone to you. I too always carry all the normal kid meds. but don't worry if you forget something. You can get most things in the gift shop. At a very high cost but if you have a sick child you won't care. WDW can provide you with the number of a clinic that will send a Dr. to your room if you need it. Thank goodness we have never used it but others on this board have reported good results.I do admit that I encourage handwashing and carry that liquid germ remover stuff but try to to worry too much. There are germs everywhere not just WDW.

You can buy medicines and supplies at the gift shops, but they are very expensive. At least you'll know that you can get stuff you need if you do forget something, though. We had to buy a thermometer at the All Star Sports gift shop one year.

I bring children's and adults' Motrin and Sudafed, Neosporin, and any Rxs we need. Also bandaids and moleskin, which I pre-cut into small pieces. And definitely Ben Gay or some other kind of muscle cream.

Also, the parks themselves have great first-aid stations. DD got a tiny cut from a broken glass (don't ask) at one of the restaurants in EPCOT. They pretty much insisted that we take her to the first aid station to get it checked out. The nurses were very kind and efficient. They put Neosporin and a bandaid on it, and gave her a bunch of "Nurse Minnie" stickers.

DS also received excelent care at the first aid station at MGM. Actually he was pushed down by a rude family after Fantasmic, and banged up/cut his knee(long story, but the goodness of those who came to his aid out did the rudeness of one family)

I bring just about "all" the meds I think my kids might need!!! tylenol, benadryl, cold stuff - even Amoxillian without the water added from our dr. My one son seens to get an ear infection when we fly. On one trip on the second night at CBR I called the front desk at midnight for help his ear hurt so much and tylenol wasn't cutting it. They gave me the number of doctors on the go. I called and a nurse and Dr arrived at our room in 20 minutes. Sure enough it was ear infection. Gave me a double dose of amox plus pain meds for the night and a perscription for amox at a local pharmacy to be delivered to the front desk by 10 am the next morning. Cost me 198.00 for the house call and 70.00 for the meds. Was it worth the big expense? You bet! By morning my son was a different kid and ready to do disney. when we go home I took him to our Ped for a check over. He was in great shape and when she heard by expense she told me to call when we fly and she gave to a perscription for amox. 3 trips later I have been in the same boat twice - but now I know and I start the amox right away and life is good again.

I take all the meds too because I've had a kid run a fever on a Disney trip. I'd also check with medical insurance to make sure I knew what the coverage was out-of-town and be sure to carry the cards.

I also take moleskin to put on hot spots before they become blisters and the neosporin that has pain killer.

Along with most of the medications mentioned (which I never used, but felt better having!), I also packed some large ziplock bags and a couple of cotton diapers (the flat rectangular ones) in my backpack. They did come in handy because my DS who was almost 2 threw up all over himself during Bear in the Big Blue House Show. I ws able to clean him up with the diapers and then just zipped them up in the bag to take them back to the hotel to do laundry (bring your own detergent too). The diapers were a lot more absorbant than paper towels. I kept some Wet Ones in the bag too. That was the only time he's thrown up in almost 4 years now! I guess I should consider myself lucky. LOL, I still can't watch Bear on TV without remembering (not quite the Disney memory I was hoping for!)

All the suggestions here are great. Two years ago I packed the entire medicine cabinet (or so it seemed). DH kept reminding me that we were only going to Florida not some remote place in the jungle (yes, there are stores in Florida). Well, during our trip all three kids and myself ended up sick with a cough that would not quit! Guess what I was missing - cough medicine!!!! Thank goodness they had it in the general store at POR but the price was very high. I would say plan as best you can but there will always be something you've forgotten (I don't think I would have thought to pack THREE bottles of cough medicine anyway!LOL).

just remember pepto bismol should never be given to children. It can cause Reyes syndrome just like asprin. children should be given something likes childrens formula Maalox.
