Saturday December 18
We woke with the normal high level of excitement that an impending trip to the Magic brings. Husband was driving us to St Pancras and then going home to await Sons return from University. We got there in plenty of time but it was just as well. The queue to check in was enormous and I couldnt believe how busy the place was. I asked a member of staff what had happened and was told that Gatwick had closed and so everybody was trying to get on a train instead. The staff were doing all they could to get people checked in on time and they had set up a stand giving out free coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Eventually we were on our train and after a bit of a delay we were off. DISNEY CHRISTMAS HERE WE COME.
While we were travelling through France my phone beeped and I received a photo text message from Husband. It was picture of our street which I had left only hours before. It was now a white-out scene. The snow had come down so quickly and heavily that it was laying very deep already. I started to worry about whether my son would be able to get home, then decided (and not for the only time that holiday) that it was no use worrying about things that were out of my control I just sat back and enjoyed the rest of my journey.
Once at Marne La Vallee we went straight to Sequoia Lodge to check in. It had been a while since we had stayed at SL and it was nice to be back especially at Christmas as I always find SL to be warm and cosy with very tempting smells coming from Hunters Grill and Beaver Creek.
Our room was on the ground floor.
It had been snowing but there wasnt too much on the ground.
I was ready for a nap by now (well it had been a very busy end of term at school!) and Dtr was happy to go off to the pool for a swim first. We had brought a kettle and sachets of hot chocolate so we warmed ourselves up with a cup each before heading out to the Village. After admiring all the decorations we went to Annettes. We shared some hash browns then had a Rock n Roll burger each, having a water and vanilla shake to drink. It was scrummy and a bargain at just 36.04 (with shareholders discount).
Now at last we went in the Park. We were just in time to watch the tree lighting ceremony. We were standing at the end of Main Street to see it. Just as the ceremony was over and the sounds of Chante Cest Noel came over the speakers I felt the first snowflake on my face. After a few more had landed I realised it wasnt the fake Main Street snow but the real thing. Im not ashamed to say my eyes filled with tears, it was so lovely to be standing there amongst all the Christmassy Disney stuff, with that lovely song playing and snow starting to fall.
Once all the lights came back on we went off towards Adventureland. Indiana Jones was closed so we went into the lovely warmth of Pirates. We were amazed how much snow had already fallen and how pretty Belles Christmas Village looked so we had slow wander around there taking some photos
before going on IASW all decked out for Christmas with the song Jingle Bells inserted into the more familiar tune.
After a ride on Snow White we went to Frontierland so Dtr could go on BTM in the snow and we could both ride on Phantom Manor.
The Park was now closing so we trudged along Main Street, waved goodbye to Father Christmas who was standing up on Main Street Station and made our way back to the hotel. It was a bit of a slippery route, but we didnt mind. We were just so excited to be at Disneyland, at Christmas, in the snow.
Back in our room, we warmed up with cup-a-soups and phoned home. Son had got home all right although the roads were a bit risky. We heard that Heathrow was also shut and that people were queuing out of St Pancras and around the corner for a chance to get on a Eurostar, many were to be there overnight. Thankful that our journey had gone smoothly, we curled up in our comfy beds for a good nights sleep.
