Il Mulino - Recent Reviews? Menu?

I'm trying to plan a group dinner for my family (13 of us) in May and I have Il Mulino on the short list of options. Has anyone been there recently? I checked the reviews on Yelp and they are kind of lukewarm. The menu on AllEars looks good, but it's from October 2010. Any idea if the menu has changed since then?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I was also looking at Shula's, Flying Fish and Yachtsman...any thoughts on those? We're pretty much restricted to resort restaurants because I'm not sure what everyone is doing as far as park tickets. Also, I'm a strict vegetarian (and it's my birthday dinner!) so I want to make sure there are a few menu options for me. Oddly enough, steakhouses tend to have really good side dishes that make for a great vegetarian sampler platter so those types of places are not out of the question.

TIA!!!

People on Yelp complain like it's their job. Generally the Il Mulino reviews within the Disney community are highly positive. We ate there last October and loved it. It's easily the best Italian restaurant on Disney property. The best place to find the current menu is on the Swan and Dolphin's website. I'm sorry I can't link you but I'm posting from my phone right now. It doesn't play nice with the website's flash interface.

I think Il Mulino is especially good for a group as large as yours because of the family-style options. By the way, I had the manicotti on our last visit and it was outstanding. It's a great vegetarian option and very fresh tasting. It was quite a large portion, though. I wrapped up a little more than half and took it home.

We didn't really like iL Mulino, and definitely would not go back. Having said that, it is one of the best reviewed restaurants here (don't know why), so maybe we had an off night.

Thanks for directing me to the Swan and Dolphin website - I had no idea there was one! The photos of the restaurant look amazing and the menu definitely shows some potential ;) I know what you mean about Yelp...I try to take those reviews with a grain of salt (no pun intended :rotfl:)

Do you know if the family-style option can be done for certain people at the table or do they base it on the total number in the party? For example, there will be 3 kids and 2 teens at dinner...could we order a family-style entree just for those 5 or would the require all 13 of us to get the same thing?

Thanks again!

Was there something in particular you didn't like? Food? Service? I really want everyone to be pleased with whichever restaurant I pick (nothing like putting pressure on myself for my own birthday dinner, huh?) so I'd love to know more about your experience.

Thanks!

I don't pay any attention to Yelp or Trip Advisor when it comes to Disney property restaurants (both the Disney-operated and non Disney operated ones). I barely pay attention to reviews on this board. If I went by what Yelp or Trip Advisor said I'd probably never eat at any of them.

Il Mulino was very good. I was there in December. This is upscale Italian, no chicken parm. here.....

Of the two Steak places - Shula's get's the better marks....but for steak. Many of the side dishes at Shula's have seafood in them (i.e., lobster mac'n'chese). And they serve my wife's favorite dessert - chocolatesouffle. (dining here in April)

Flying Fish is excellent. Because it is both a Signature restaurant and part of Disney Dining Plan (like Yachtman), it can be more crowded than the places inside the Swan and/or Dolphin. (dining here too in April)

blueZoo should also be on your list. They may specialize in seafood, but the Tempura Stringbeans with Truffle Mayo was sublime and the freebie of Bread with Fennel Butter is the best basket of bread at Disney. Full disclosure - this is my favorite restaurant at Disney (twice in April).

Thanks for the info! I hadn't even considered blueZoo - mostly because I didn't see a vegetarian entree option. But, in looking at the menu again, they do have a "Chef Pasta" that could possibly be made vegetarian. Although, I could probably make a meal out of those tempura string beans and the bread basket :rolleyes1

We went to Il Mulino in October, our third time. Really love it. Great food and good for a crowd. The complimentary eggplant appetizer is wonderful!

Love FF, but not sure it would be good with such a large group.
