IKEA kitchen cabinets?

I am glad to see this thread. I am considering using ikea cabinets to create my craft/sewing/office room to get a "built-in" look. Sounds like a good plan.

How does ikea compare price wise to craft maid cabinets? Also in general how long does it take to get your cabinets?

We got a quote at Lowes when we were still planning out the layout of our new kitchen. They wanted $15K for the basic cabinets (just the box with a door). We got our Ikea cabinets for $5K and we got way more features: all of our base cabinets are either deep drawers, blind corner pull out, or a corner lazy susan, and we also got a tall pantry with all pull-out shelves. I believe Lowes also wanted an additional $10 a piece for the slow-closing hinges which come standard on all the Ikea doors and drawers.

I could say Ikea was 1/3 of the price, but really it was significantly less because I would have to add in all the extras. Probably 1/4 of the price if I did a real side by side comparison with the same features.

There isn't really a time frame for receiving the cabinets. They are in stock and you take them home with you the same day you purchase them. We live over 4 hours away and we rented a small uhaul trailer. The cabinets are all packed in flat boxes, so they are easy to transport. I am sure you could also have them delivered and I would assume it's just a few days. It's nothing like ordering from a home improvement store and waiting weeks for them to come in.

I also wanted to mention that I really like my Ikea sink and we are so glad that I made the over 8 hour round trip back to Ikea just to purchase one.

We liked the look of the sink when we were in the store, but we were planning to purchase our counter top from Lowes and figured we would buy a sink there. But, we really didn't like anything else. We weren't set on an apron sink, but the ones they did carry had two major issues for us: 1. they were over twice the price (around $700) and 2. they don't go all the way to the wall. Number two was an issue because we didn't like the look as much, it would be more difficult to clean, and we would also have to purchase countertop for the entire area that the sink would take up (an extra 5 sq ft). Depending on your material (granite/quartz) that could save $500.

Here's a link I found with pictures of the sink.
(My kitchen is more modern and we have an industrial-style faucet, but the sink still works beautifully)

I see from your profile your from PA. By your shore house can I assume its in NJ? If it is I may have a source for you.

In Perth Amboy there is Kitchen Wholesale and Design,
http://www.wholesalekitchencab.com/

(We recently moved to Virgina) A few years back we did a total gut of the kitchen. We searched endlessly for cabinets, including Ikea which was going to be our choice until my brother-in-law tipped me to this company he used.
They are awesome and will do as little or as much as you want them to. We used them from design and install and they are the simply the best company to work with. Loads of choices and prices that will beat (or come close to it) Ikea. I can send you a pic if you want to take a quick look.

Yes, our house is in Ocean City, NJ. I'll have to check this place out. Thanks for the tip!
