David, there are some cutoff's but I don't think they apply to DVC II trades as much as regular II trades. Available weeks at 60 days or less are in the "flexchange" status. Trade power and matching criteria are relaxed quite a bit during this time. That means that a unit sitting there that did you match for you may suddenly be available to you at 60 days. And therefore that a lot of the cancellations that do occur, do so at just over 60 days out. II will start calling before confirming at I think it's 37 days out and there is another break at 30 & 14 days out. But with DVC and since the cost is the same in terms of number of points inside flexchange, I don't think it has much importance to DVC members. And since DVC calls to confirm every trade, that burden is removed over regular II members. Does that answer your question?David in Manassas said:
If I understand you, I don't necessarily agree. It's not uncommon for units to show up fairly short notice. And if they are there, they are easier to get at 60 days or less. Still not something to count on though. There are 2 situations I'd use this for. One is where you plan a trip but don't plan a destination until you see what's available short notice. It's a method I've toyed with at times though it doesn't really match my planner personality. The other is when you have a trip planned and you get maybe a better or larger unit or an extra unit for when you're going anyway. I used this at HH at times when I owned a trading Marriott week. I'd put in a request for my week I wanted and was going anyway. Then I'd do the special request first Marriott to Marriott exchange request where I only gave up my week if they found a match. It worked every time including getting a third unit at Grande Ocean for 4th of July with the trade coming through right at 60 days out. A major trade up in both resort quality and week demand and one I would not have gotten had the stars not been in alignment. I also used it to get a second 1 BR unit on our last HI trip. Got two 1 BR units at the Embassy on Maui for summer so we'd have more room and privacy.David in Manassas said:
