I put in a request a couple of weeks ago for the Westin in Maui for a one month frame during Nov. and Dec. of this year. I didn't think it would come through, so this morning I called to cancel it so that we could use the points elsewhere instead. To my surprise the lady on the other end said your waitlist came through this morning for Nov. 30th and you'll get your conf. in about 10 days. I couldn't believe it.
We will be in a 1-bedroom for 144 points. I thin that is a pretty good deal. I am so happy and completely surprised.

It's a good deal and great resort. That's a lower season so I'm not surprised, esp since the Westin just put a lot of units in II. It does serve as a reminder that you need to be searching when units are deposited, esp for resorts like the Westin that tend to deposit a number of units at one time. The Westin doesn't guarantee you the unit or even the unit type that you traded for but if you put in a request, they will often try to accommodate you. I have the email for the concierge there if you would like, they can place your requests. I'm thinking this is how I found out the unit deposited as well but we actually got a better unit that was deposited simply because we asked. Do you know if you got the Original or North section?

Do you mean that we are not guaranteed a 1 bedroom? MS said that we got a 1 bedroom and I would really be bummed if it was a studio. I'm pretty sure that it is the original and not north. I tried to call back and make sure, but they were closed already.

For 144 points, it will be a 1 BR. I was referring to the view type, not unit size.

Thanks. I would love an ocean view but if not, I wouldn't complain about it. With two little ones, I doubt we will be spending a lot of quiet time looking at it anyway. I can't wait for Nov.

Congratulations! What a great value for 144 points! I would sure try for a ocean view or even partial ocean view. We stayed there in 2006 with what I would call partial Ocean view. It was awesome. I had rented it from a Westin owner. I had a deluxe studio, they are wonderful, way more than DVC studio's. I have seen pictures of the one bedrooms, they are just beautiful. It is a great resort!!!:goodvibes

Wonderful exchange!:thumbsup2

Last week I added the Westin & Marriott on Maui to our existing search. Now our search is for Kauai Oct - Dec 08 with Maui added for Jan 09.

I am totally thrilled. Now I just have to decide if we want to drive down to LA and fly out there or fly from our home town, which adds about $200 a ticket for the four of us. It is about a four hour drive down. I think we could stay the night in LA and have a good time, but when we get back, I don't know if we will want to drive home afterward. I have a little time to decide, so I guess there is not a big hurry.
Thanks for the input. We will miss WDW this year, but not the crowds. We are excited to have just a kick back vaca.

I'd vote for driving to LA with a night or two on the way back for DL.

Actually most of those partial ocean view units are actually technically garden view. We were in a 1 BR in Jan and they are very nice. I liked the older portion better than the newer North section, esp for the studio.

We stayed there about 5 years ago and it was a beautiful resort. Have a great vacation!

thank you. Does anyone have any suggestions for what building I should request? I would like to be close to the pool.

At the Westin Maui, rooms are assigned by order of when the reservation was made. You will not get an Ocean View unit, those units are snatched by owners at the 11 month booking window. Regardless of the room assignment, its a great resort.

Decide what's important to you. Personally, I'd just ask for the ocean view and the best unit possible. While I know that the Westin tends to assign rooms to owners first based on when they reserved, there are obviously other factors. When we were there a month ago, we actually had a very nice ocean view unit, a better unit than the one that was actually deposited to II.
