II exchange ?

after ten years enjoying dvc for dvc only vacations, we are trying the new II point exchange program for a stay on maui the week of 4-15 thru 4-21, having very little knowledge of traditional time share, my question is- when we check in can we ask for a good view, or any other questions about the unit, or is the unit that was deposited for exchange the only one we are able to use.

Most newer, better timeshares are based on "floating" weeks within seasons, and sometimes within categories (such as "ocean view" or "garden view"). So a unit may be associated with a particular category, but seldom with a particular unit number.

You can make requests ahead of time (after your exchange is confirmed), but owners at the resort will get a higher priority.

If you're attempting to trade to a top timeshare resort on Maui, such as the Westin or Marriott, the major achievement will be to land an exchange at all. I wouldn't be too worried getting the best location at the resort.

You'll be lucky to get anything then. Assume you'll get the equivilent of the dumpster view and work for there. You can ask for what you want, just don't hold your breath. Look for a direct exchange where you would have an owners priority and be able to select your view type, etc. Good luck.
