mine is actually pretty boring, we were in bed watching tv and he kinda mumbled it i thought he was kidding until he look me as serious as ever and pulled the ring out!
i was shocked

My wife (girlfriend at the time!) and I went up to the mountains to stay in a cabin with some friends. Our friends were coming up a day later than us.

With the engagement ring securely hidden in my suitcase, in a pair of socks, we settled in to the cabin. After a nice dinner, we sat in the living room of the cabin and I got a fire going in the fireplace. I got up to pour us a glass of wine, and discreetly headed to the bedroom to get the ring.

After some wine, and repeatedly repeating what I wanted to say, over and over in my mind - as well as doing a Tony Robbins and pep talking myself up for this huge event, I knelt down on one knee in front of her, in the glow of the fireplace, and proposed. ( I still know what I said, verbatim, but I'll save you the details)

Thankfully she said yes :yay:  and we have had a wonderful 17 1/2 years (and counting! :teacher: ).

We were living in NJ at the time and I always told DH that the man I marry is the one that takes on a horse and buggy ride in Central Park... :)

Well, he had planned for a weekend in NYC...He booked us a gorgeous room at the Marriott in the theatre district...We checked in and told me he had to drop some engagement papers off at an office near Central Park...We took a cab to the park and he said "Wait, we are here lets do a horse and buggy ride".....We found a carriage and he was telling me how much he loved and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me...He than said "Close your eyes you have an eyelash on your face."....I did and when I opened my eyes he was down on one knee and had beautiful box with an even more beautiful ring...He asked me right than and there to marry him...Of course I said yes..lol....He than gave me a fairy tale weekend in NYC...We went to a Broadway show I was dying to see....We had dinner at one of the most romantic restaurants in NYC (One if By Land, Two if By Sea)...He could have not done it any better than he did...

BTW- Prior to his asking me to marry him he called my father to ask for my hand in marriage...My father cried....He told my DH that his other son-in-laws' never did that and it touched him.. :)

I had one more year of college after he graduated, and it was very hard to be apart after over 1.5 years together in school. We alternated weekends at school and at his new home, but every Sunday I dissolved into tears when it was time to part.

As Thanksgiving weekend approached, I was doing very well in school (because I had nothing else to do but homework during the week, ha!) but I was very sad. To cheer me, he told me he had a big surprise waiting for me when I came for the weekend!

I drove to his place Wednesday afternoon and found the key he'd left under the mat (he was at work.) When I walked into his tiny apartment, there was a tiny rose on the carpet in front of the door. Another rose on the kitchen counter, another on the dining table, another tucked into the covers of his bed. It was so cute, they were all over the place. I found them and put them into a vase he had ready.

That evening he made a wonderful meal (barbequed steak and potatoes), then lit a fire in the fireplace, lit some candles, turned out the lights and got some music playing. I then noticed a huge gift-wrapped box on the fireplace mantle.

He told me to open it, so I did, and inside found a smaller box. Inside that was a smaller box yet. And another. I think there were 5 or 6 in all, it was exciting and exasperating all at once! Until I saw the last box, which was ring-sized. I caught my breath, and he said, "Go on, open it."

Inside was a beautiful eternity band. He told me he loved me, that he knew shortly after we'd met that I was the one, that he'd told his beloved grandmother before she died (6 months earlier) that he was going to marry me, and lots of other beautiful things that had me sobbing with happiness.

Then he paused and asked, "Do you like the ring?" I said yes, but between the tears and the low light, I honestly could hardly see it. So I leaned toward the fireplace. Then some more... just a little bit more...

"Oh, for pete's sake!" he said, and snapped on the lights. :lmao:

"Oh, it's so beautiful!" I gushed.

It truly was a lovely way to ask me to marry him, but he ALWAYS mentions how he had to save me from setting myself on fire...

In September we'll be celebrating 13 years of marriage and 2 handsome little boys together!
